Live 14 Update

Postby Arcane on Sat Sep 14, 2013 2:20 pm

Guys I'm sure some of you have seen the tweets that went out today with the reference "Launch Window" in them I am seeking clarification for the community what that means entirely.

I have 1 possible theory but like I said just seeking clarification before hand.

Also the previews of players we we expecting today are now set for Monday (USA date)

It means a delay. "Launch window" is industry speak for "fuck no we're not making launch day" and depending on who you ask it means a couple weeks to six months or more.

Note for "confirmation" that EA today announced which games will be out on next-gen launch day, Battlefield, Madden and FIFA. That's it.

If that's the case, I'd have to imagine it'd be a week or two. Anything longer than that would surely be another cancellation.

I would say until 2014. Getting it out in the holiday window would still be viable unless they have some insane projections on what next-gen attach ratio will be.

The problem will be when they get buried in the 2K14 marketing which is probably going to pave over the entire planet for a month.

It'd be interesting to see somebody target the playoffs as their launch. With the idea that it will include all the trades, performances, team styles, etc. with a huge focus on playoff presentation, holding you over until the next season with modes that cater to that, etc. There were some successful launches like this back in the olden console days (SNES/PS1 eras) that did well with picking up "double dips" from people who burned out on whichever title they bought for the start of the season.

A new console launch might be the best time to attempt this and we've seen companies recognizing that formerly spring lull of games is a good time to release other, often smaller IPs.

That combined with a lower price point could convince people to "try" Live who know they're getting 2K in the fall no matter what. (ala Call of Duty, Madden, etc.)

True, though it would defeat the purpose of the daily Synergy updates if it wasn't available for a bulk of the season.

My musings were more about designing the game from the start with the playoff focus, not hastily retrofitting one that's missed multiple release dates.

Actually it'd be interesting to see it placed as a middle spin-off game allowing longer development cycles on the main series.

Live 14 - Fall 2013
Playoff Live 15 - Spring 2015
Live 16 - Fall 2015
Playoff Live 17 - Spring 2017
Live 18 - Fall 2017

Since I doubt EA would allow:
Live 14 - Fall 2013
Playoff Live 15 - Spring 2015
Live 16 - Fall 2016
Playoff Live 17 - Spring 2017
Live 18 - Fall 2018

Makes sense, because Titan Fall is a next gen launch game for the Xbox One, and it's coming out next year, I hope that's not the case though, only reason why I'm getting an Xbox Live Day One Edition is because of Live 14 lol

NBA Live 14 and NBA 2K14 are basically the main reasons I'm getting a PlayStation 4 at launch (well, soon after; I didn't get my pre-order in quick enough to be guaranteed day one). I know there'll be other games coming along that I'm interested in though, not long after launch and in the years to come.

I just want Live to be released for Jao's sake. Another cancellation might make Jao snap and go crazy that he'll actually start playing games for the sake of playing it instead of playing them just to mod it.
