Is there much else to the story? He skipped practice to be with his family on Thanksgiving, understandable but it's still not his place to do that when he has professional commitments.

yeah, it was thanksgiving.
in my opinion..they should just let this go, i mean, it is thanksgiving after all...people skip games just to be with their family sometimes (recently, tyson chandler, cause his wife gave birth), thanksgiving is so big in the US i am surprised that they are punishing him this much

Why should they let this go? Everyone else decided to show up on Thanksgiving for practice.

Why would they even schedule a practice on Thanksgiving? I can understand having a game on Thanksgiving, but practice? Family first.

Any chance we can hear Iverson go off on another "We talking 'bout practice?" tirade?

That's not the point though. Yes, it's tough that he was expected to show up to practice on Thanksgiving but that was the expectation of the whole team and everyone else made that sacrifice. The main issue is that he didn't contact anyone on the Pistons, he just no-showed. Tyson Chandler missing a game because his wife is giving birth, Leandro Barbosa missing games to attend his mother's funeral in Brazil or Mehmet Okur missing games to be with his ailing father in Turkey isn't quite the same because they've been given leave to do those things, they've been excused from their professional obligations.

At any rate, Iverson apologised and admitted his mistake in not contacting the team, declining to make excuses for not following protocol. I'd say that's the matter closed, handled properly by both sides.
