Both Demos Released - Post Impressions Here!

Talk about NBA Live 09 here.

Postby JaoSming on Mon Sep 08, 2008 9:23 pm

My new neighbor watched me and my friends play 2v2 the other night and he was impressed (hes a big PS3 FPS/action game guy). He played me last night 1v1 and the last game he had played was ESPN "2k4".

I ended up loosing 4 out of the 5 games, he was just making smart direct passes and once he learned what the left trigger did for pick and rolls I couldn't defend him.

However, once I got into a grove with the lakers, man, I scored 38 points.

Couple things we really need to push for NBA Live X is to bring back the PC/PS2/XBOX give and go system by holding pass down, off ball control by pressing the right analog, and being able to choose which arm to steal with the right analog like live 2003.
Opinions are my own.

Its because no one knows, there wasn't even an announcement of the 360 demo.

I found a pretty bad bug in the demo that I hope isn't in the final version. I put pressure on the player bringing the ball up, but my other 4 players were stuck in a very close group at center court while the other team was in the front court. They seemed to be stuck as I watched the replay and they were all trying to get back on defense but never could, maybe they were all stuck together, or the collision animations were preventing the running animations from starting.

Another issue I noticed is the offensive AI. I was guarding an off ball post player and decided to just walk away from him, guarding no one. It took the ballhandler about 4-5 seconds from his idle dribbling to decide to pass it to a guard, who finally passed it to the open man on the post. This was on superstar.

I turned up the in-air collision fouls to 100 and forced my way to the basket alot, resulting in alot of offensive fouls, which is a good thing.

That probably is because the computer was running a play, and was waiting for the player to get to his spot. They should try to give players a mind of their own, make the computer do things more naturally. They had that issue last year.

I don't think the 365 thing is gonna be all that, because EA doesn't know how their own ratings work. Even if something is set at 65, the computer doesn't really respond that great.

Fortunately this year is harder to steal the ball, as I said before you need to use Lockdown moves but it will make you steal the ball only somtimes.

It's not just about making a block or steal though, it's about forcing bad shots, shot clock violations, cutting off the drive and generally disrupting the offense. That said, it's going to take a bit of getting used to for it to be used effectively.

Maybe I do sth wrong... I just move the left stick to the offensive player and that makes defensive player press him. I noticed that when I use lockdown D, Kobe makes all his shots , but when I let him shoot from quite good position he misses sometimes. I think I gotta change CPU shooting sliders because I wasn't able to stop Pau Gasol. He scores from every position . He doesnt even use any moves he just shoots and makes it. When I try to do this with KG my shot is being blocked.

Yesterday I was trying to win against Lakers using Celtics reserves. I wasn't able to do this, but I used to tie the game up.

I play on Superstar lvl of course

That probably is because the computer was running a play, and was waiting for the player to get to his spot.

All offensive players were idle and in their "spots", while Kevin Garnett dribbled the ball about 21 feet from the basket. If I leave a player wide open in NBA 2K8 like I did in Live, the cpu AI immediately reacts, either finding another player with a better angle to the open player, or making the pass directly.

They should try to give players a mind of their own, make the computer do things more naturally. They had that issue last year.

I totally agree. I believe a basketball game needs a minimum of 15 AI's running in tandem. 1 for each player on the court, 1 for each team, one for each coach, and one for officiating.

I was reading the posts on the EA Sports forum. Most of the people there are saying that the demo for the ps3 version of nba live 09 would come out on thursday sept. 11. We'll have to wait and see.

i really have a problem with the fact that it's so damn easy to score inside. online play is gonna be garbage again this year.

and has anyone figured out if there is a direct DOUBLE TEAM trigger? Last year it was one of the plays, but its not working this year.

If the 360 demo's release is anything to go by it should be sometime in the evening Australian Eastern Standard Time, probably after 9 PM.
