What's the difference between what Horry did and a standard pick?

And once again, what is so horrible about statistics?

If you lower your shoulder and bend your knee's its not hard to hit someone in the middle of the back. And that's exactly the difference between what Horry did and a regular screen.

And did I say there was anything wrong with stats?

Do you understand that if you apply no force whatsoever to the person you're setting a pick on, you're inevitably going to get knocked over? Like I said, everyone sets picks exactly like that. If West didn't fall over dead, nobody would give a damn because it would just look like a regular play.

NBA has really messed up the playoff schedules this year. Just when you think it can't get any worse they have 3 days in between game 6 and 7.

You can stand your ground by bracing for impact. That doesn't mean you have to shoulder somebody in the middle of the back just to hold your position.

Bracing for impact involves applying force. This discussion is probably going nowhere...if you watch the video and think it looks like a malicious flagrant foul I really doubt I'd ever be able to understand that.

Bracing for impact applies force to yourself but the impact is from the player running into you, not the person (you) setting the screen.

Huh?

Nobody sets a screen without leaning into it, otherwise they get knocked over. And it wasn't like he made a violent forward motion with his shoulder either. West was moving rather briskly towards him without looking at him, so he was rightfully concerned about how hard the impact was going to be.

 That has to be the most abstract reply I have ever heard. "he was worried about the impact so he shouldered him!"

hahaha

I don't see what's abstract about that. Sounds perfectly logical to me which is why I posted it.

I'd like to see statistical evidence of this please :)

How could that possibly be measured by a statistic? Just watch someone set a screen or imagine it in your head.

...What? I don't understand what stats you're referring to here.

I guess if you want to call it an "opinion" when I watch a video of someone leaning forward setting a pick and identify it as such, then that's what I'm telling you.

I guess I don't, at least the way in which you were using it. Would you care to explain rather than insulting me/questioning my knowledge ad nauseam?

I wonder what the NLSC would be like if people actually tried to make arguments instead of just declaring things and expecting people to support them because of their long since wasted prestige.

Man, if the Hornets lose, I'm going back to Detroit.

I agree, it gets old after the first 10 times Parker drives to the lane, falls on the floor and hold his face. Ginobili is the same, he tries to make contact almost all the time, and acts like he just got hit by a car. The spurs are a good team, they dont need to do this bullshit acting every time down the court. Which is the reason im starting to hate them. Play fucking basketball.

im a little disappointed with the Hornets' loss, especially with their convincing wins at home vs the Spurs but it seemed like the spurs really figured how to beat the New Orleans defense.
The Hornets' lack of offensive power needs to be addressed in the offseason. They play really well when they get either Mo Pete or Peja as their third scorer, so I think they need to get a 2 guard like Corey Maggette or someone like that who can get them points when they need it.

Hmm? They were fifth during the season, and were actually better in the playoffs through game six as they slashed their turnovers to an insanely low number.
Corey Maggette or someone like that

Heh. What kind of players are out there like Corey Maggette? The entire NLSC combined couldn't get free throw attempts like he can.

Could they get him easily though? If he opts out, he'll be looking for closer to $10 million. Do the Hornets want four players at $40 million+?

I'd like to see them get some more depth, especially upfront. I like Hilton Armstrong, but he's hardly enough. Maybe find a combo guard to spell Paul better than Pargo did this year.
