Matt wrote:^ in essence that deal is Gibson & Gooden for Kidd.

I think Cle would do that deal if it had Boone instead of Magloire.

Perhaps, but that particular deal wouldn't work under the cap with Boone's salary.

Elbeen wrote:I want to see in a Cavs jersey, LBJ and Kidd would own, with their highlight reels and alley-oops. :)

And this trade could work:
NJ sends:
Kidd, Boone

Cle sends:
Jones, Marshall, Gooden, Snow (all expirings) + a 1st Round Draft Pick

Looks good too me.

That would work under the cap so it's definitely a feasible scenario. It still leaves the Cavaliers pretty thin up front though.

Yahoo Sports says there could be a 3 way deal with portland, dallas and NJ with kidd going to dallas. it's not final yet but these 3 teams are negotiating.

The New Jersey Nets are in serious negotiations with the Dallas Mavericks and Portland Trail Blazers about a blockbuster three-way trade that would send Jason Kidd to the Mavericks, league sources said Wednesday afternoon.

In the proposed trade, Dallas and Portland would send the Nets a package that includes the Mavs' Devean George and Jerry Stackhouse and Blazers forwards Travis Outlaw and Channing Frye and guard Jarrett Jack. Mavericks point guard Devin Harris would be sent to Portland. Along with Kidd, the Nets would send reserve forward Malik Allen and center Jamaal Magloire to Dallas.

Seems like a ripoff for Portland and a steal for New Jersey and a good deal for Dallas as well.

I can't imagine why Portland would give Outlaw up for Devin Harris and it's even harder to imagine why they'd give up Outlaw AND Frye for Harris. Outlaw has played incredible this year and his future is looking brighter and brighter, especially now that he can make three pointers.

if that was to happen then the nets would make out like bandits imo, and the mavs would improve thier chances for a ring this season and possible next

Yeah like the deal there that would send Kidd to my favorite team but trading Harris there is no no for me.

I don't know about that deal going down because if I'm Paul Allen and Kevin Pritchard, I'm asking "What's in it for us?". Devin Harris is a good player who one day might be a very good player, but the Blazers are basically giving away some key players from their surprisingly successful squad for the benefit of the Nets and Mavericks.

Yeah, there's no way Portland agrees to that, that totally destroys their cinderalla season. There's probably more to what Portland is getting in exchange than what Yahoo is saying, unless there's something wrong with Portland. Maybe cash or picks.

before the season started i expected portland to ride the year out and pick up a high draft pick to match with odens return but now that they have played the way they have it changes it all. now they might want to make a trade this season to bring in a guy who can help them out for the next few years for when oden return and the team is full strength. even if doing a trade now does not help them this season if its something to set them up for next season i would consider it a good deal.

being said, harris is not that guy to help them big time next season, well not enough to dump all those players.

I'm guessing with the season they're having and the prospect of getting Oden back in 2008/2009 they won't be looking to make any major changes but even if they were, Harris isn't really a player they'd give up a lot of players for (as you noted).

cavs getting kidd is very possible simply through a 3 way trade. but that may mean they have to shake up their roster quite a bit; though it would be a bit risky to give up so much for a 33 year old( or is he older?) but then again it is jason kidd.

I hear this will happen in a three way trade:
Dallas will get Kidd
Portland will get Devin Harris
New Jersey will get Jerry Stackhouse, Travis Outlaw and Jarrett Jack
Brandon Bass and Channing Frye might be involved too..

I believe that rumour has already been brought up. ;)

The Lakers can probably be ruled out now that they've acquired Gasol, unless they're willing to put Bynum on the table.

Guess my post didn't do through on time ;)
Anyway, Kidd back to Dallas? Picture it:

C - Erick Dampier
PF - Dirk Nowitzki
SF - Josh Howard
SG - Jason Terry
PG - Jason Kidd

That's a power hungry lineup right there!

It would be funny if the Lakers resigned Kwame Brown and then traded him again.

lol that would be funny but i believe there is a waiting period before a player can be traded after being signed.

If they can't re-sign Kwame for 30 days then he won't be traded again this season, since the deadline would have passed.

A trade to Dallas is "imminent" for Jason Kidd , from ESPN.

When Cuban said the team wasn't interested in making a deal for Kidd that probably should have been a good indication that something was in the works but given how highly Avery Johnson has spoken of Devin Harris and the fact that it would take a few players to make the deal work under the cap, it still seemed a little unlikely for a team that's currently third in the West.

That's a good deal for the Mavericks though. Harris would seem to have a bright future but with players like Dirk, Howard and Terry, the Mavs can make that gamble. Losing Diop is a bit of a blow as he's been fairly solid for them and it leaves them without much depth at centre but when a player of Kidd's magnitude is on the table it's worth the risk to bolster your chances at a title for the next two or three years. Losing Stack isn't ideal either but if he's bought out and returns to the Mavs it's a coup for them. Antoine Wright has promise so if they pick him up coming the other way, so much the better.

For New Jersey, it's not equal value but it's decent enough. Assuming Stack won't be joining the team, they're still getting a young point guard who should continue to get better, a couple of solid players players in Diop and George (who have expiring contracts if nothing else) and a first round pick to roll the dice on. It's a better deal than Memphis got for Pau Gasol, if nothing else.

Wow...three MAJOR deals in the last 2 weeks or so. Things are getting REALLY interesting in the West. So, what happens to the All-Star teams now  ? Or is the trade just in principle for now, and happens after all-star break?
