Which patches, all of the ones i've ever seen are free.

All patches are free, but some people have a place where you can donate to them, mainly the programmers who spend their free time on crreating programs that make it easy to modify the game.

Some patches are also hosted on sites that offer premium downloading services at a price, but the files can still be downloaded free of charge from a public server.
