Stop hoping. The PC won't get next gen graphics until current gen is phased out, or EA decides to utilize Directx 10 and Vista.

Ea need to use Vista. And they can of course still use directx 9, which will allow the PC to have both current and next gen graphic :D

That'd be cool as long as they don't go as far as Shadowrun does...

geez...releasing a DX9 game on a Vista-only platform...I was hyped and wanted to play it real bad, but Microsoft slapped me cold...

So I've heard rumours about. You can confirm it's real? But either way, just like Lean, my humble little laptop probably can't support the new DX APIs (it doesn't even support some of the DX9 APIs!).

EDIT: Read some articles around the net. Namely, this one:

http://letskilldave.com/archive/2006/10 ... 2E00_.aspx

Of course, he could be wrong :P.

Yeah...Some games crash, but a lot of the new DX10 games run fine if you have the hardware! It will be maybe a year before DX10 is fully supported by XP! 8-)

I heard about people running a modded version of Shadowrun on XP, albeit only with bots and LAN-restricted gameplay. But if it is true, I'd be very happy to buy a copy! :D.

Back on topic, I hope that soon EA Canda would steal some of the FIFA developpers for the UI of the Live franchise...there is a huge difference between the two games...and although it will not really change the gameplay, it will definitely make the overall feel of the game much better.

Good news for the first part, sorry to hear about the second part. I always liked Halo 1 multiplayer, and I've always wanted to play LP and Shadowrun, just never had the hardware...

Speaking of DX10, will EA really use it? I mean, if The X360 hardware theoretically doesn't support DX10, then wouldn't it be unproductive to develop for the PC w/ DX10? I'm not really an expert in the game development scene, but my common sense tells me that we'll see more X360 ports using DX9.

Any thoughts?

Yeah, but all those run in DX9. DX10 is not available for XP. The reason those work is because of that DX9 option (as basically nobody has a DX10 card yet) and they simply had other code to run in Vista only. (Well, not Lost Planet...it's fine in XP, out of the box.) People have cracked the code that asks "which OS?" and so you can run Halo and Shadowrun in XP.

Microsoft is making their games Vista only to try and get people to switch. Everyone else is still making DX9/DX10 games that work on both XP and Vista because they like to actually sell things.

X360 does work in a DX9 fork, but I'm sure the Microsoft tools XNA can and will port into DX10.

EA and everyone else will likely still make DX9 games until Vista and DX10 cards catch on. There's no reason making games for a handful of people, when there's a good number of people who are still on DX7 cards.

Of course, as always, EA might just get tired of it and can the PC series finally.

Just to let everyone know. If and when we get the nextgen version for pc, you can say good-bye to patching the graphics until someone feels like cracking the format and making a program to import/export images. I don't think they use dbf files for the rosters either.

Well, the same thing happened not too long ago on a game of the last generation...infact, it happened possibly three times. I do not remember exactly. There have been plenty of times the format has had to be re-cracked.

Don't count on it. I think the only reason that was done was because it was the only information/videos that have been released. I am really prepared to be wrong, though.
