Losing control of players

Postby shakazulu89 on Tue Jan 30, 2007 7:02 am

Ok i have this really REALLY really anoying problem:
sometimes when i direct pass to someone the computer gets control of the player i passed to, and im not holding the pass button.. just tapping it.. and usually the posessed player will penetrate until he gets under the basket and then just stands there.. i cant even tell him to dunk or anything.. only pass..
anyone else having this problem? am i doing something wrong? ANY help would be so greatly apreciated..
thanks

I have the same problem all the time, well actually, the orders you can do on the "computer controlled" player is pass,shoot,dunk,lay-up..

I think it has to do with the CPU Assistance menu, if you set it on Yes, the computer tries to make a play for you (according to my experiences), for example when you pass it to a teammate then his cursor becomes "gray" and then you can not control him, what you must do is either go to the basket(with your current player) and push the alley-oop so that he will pass it you and you will dunk/lay-in the ball or go to his back and he will make a standing screen and hand the ball to you so you can shoot.

Either play I think it really helped me out especially during crucial moments, when the computer holds the ball for me, I call for my favorite play and then set up the screens so that I will get an open look at the lane and go for an alley-oop.

Well, guys, I don't think it is the CPU assistance nor the direct pass button.

That problem occurs to me sometimes...
I realized that I pushed accidentally the "off-ball" button, wich is R3 on a usb PS2 pad.
When the ball is in the air, push that "off-ball" button again, and the problem is gone  .

The CPU assistance option is the former "close score" option.
Use it if you want to have a close game, or if you are always trailing against the cpu.

Voila...

This seems to be an issue with how Live 07 uses USB controllers. Sometimes the game recognises a tap of the passing button as the button being held down, causing you to retain controll of the passer. If you are using one of the controllers that has this problem, there is no way to prevent it, but it ends once you switch to defense or reset the player controll.
This is a true legit bug(as opposed to the many imagined bugs)so feel free to complain to EA or anyone else that will listen, just be shure to list what controller you're using. For example I get this problem regularly using a PS2 controller through a Radio Shack PSX to USB adapter.
Also, this might be out of EA's hands, a couple of more recent games won't even boot up if a non DirectX 9c supported controller is detected.

this is a bug even for keyboard users. this is the only nba live where i gave up on direct passing and switched to pushing the pass button.
