i've noticed the triple threat thing too
i cant utilise the player's first step like in the past
however, i think holding the right analog stick up while in triple threat then driving to the basket achieves something like the desired effect.

Look what I've found on the NBA Live official website:Q. If locked as a player, the CPU does not auto inbound. Inbounds are only done if one presses the pass button. This is a significant gameplay issue if one is locked as a power forward or center.
A. This is working as designed. We added the ability to call inbounds plays this year and this change means that if you are player locked you must receive the inbounds pass. This also is not going to be included in the update.
Cheers!!

They keep saying "This is working as designed" just to get out of work/Proof that they keep taking out the little but important things that make the game great. I mean why would they want to include this?

I dunno... I think that EA released roster updates will be useful so that people can focus on doing faces
