The Good.

Talk about NBA Live 07 here.

The Good.

Postby MmP on Sun Oct 15, 2006 8:10 am

Well, many here have been discussing the bad things of Live07 (bugs, mistakes, etc). What about the good improvements of the game?. I think nobody have brought them up yet.

If so, please close and apologies.

For me the biggest adjustments comparing to last year's game are:

- Better and more realistic all around game
- More layups animations
- Separte buttons for Dunks and Layups.
- Better player stops when handling the ball. (In 06 you just move the left stick in the opposite way you were going and the player just stopped, now there's an animation: the player stops, turns and protects the ball from the steal. It's cool)
- Better Crowd sound. Although I do think the "defence" chants are excesive. The crowd chant them in every possesion of the opposing team.
- Can't dunk all the time if you are near the basket, now you have to consider that if you're in traffic it's safer to take a layup.
- Better consideration of charging/offensive foul.
- Better music. Last year's tracks were awful.
- No more catch ups.

Am I missing something?

I agree. The on ball defence as wel... I thought that it was a nice animation and made it feel like the players had a sense of weight and size. The new back-down animation in the post is a lot nicer, also makes the players feel like their weight and size was an advantage rather than just a biological stat.

I love the way the crowd shouts for the three as well, and the starting lineup overlays at the start of a game.

The rumour mill in dynasty mode is great. I thought it added to the feeling of management (now you trade for players who are unhappy with their current situation or trade for players that the club no longer requires instead of just trying to get the best players).

I like the team events as wel. Not sure how press events would 'improve your focus' and give your team a freethrow boost but it all adds to the game I suppose.

I felt like last year I would sim most of my games, then play the allstar game and I actually enjoyed the off-seasons better than the on-season. Selecting your draft picks is fun - its not how EA described it ('pick your draftee based on your team needs to be successful' - bullshit) but I always liked it, thats why I think the mock draft was such a nice addition as wel.

i think last year's tracks were better. i only like masquenada this year. i think there are still catch ups in the 4th quarter. The cpu is still turning on its super mode.

and then the aly oops are so so i liek it once in a while
also the Freethrow (Y) thats a major add in for me

I agree with everything there :)

I also like playing on a 1280 x 1024 resolution, even if the menu's resolution stays pitifully small :(

I also think this year's track is better, but I wish that the Fort Minor song could've made it onto this year's list.

But yeah, I think this game is better than NBA Live 06 in almost every way, only because I am more of a casual gamer and not a hard core realistic Live player. But like others have said, PG domination, substitution, and fatigue are the only things that bother me. Otherwise, I'm pretty happy I bought the game.

This years point god issue takes place of the catch up bug.

I like your list, good to see people finding positives, there actually are some decent things going on here. Most notably for me, the commentary, while a little late sometimes, is quite good. If you take a three in transition, and you make it, they will say they cant believe you took that shot, and neither can your coach. lol... And other than some VERY ANNOYING bugs, the dynasty mode has enough depth to it to prevent me from simming through 2 years in a day anymore, thanks to the chemistry and and depth chart options. The only thing I have to gripe about is when you accept a trade that has been offered you, and the trade never takes place. Try to go and make the trade yourself, and the players are locked into the deal that you agreed to, even though they havent switched to the new team yet.

I love the new Dynasty features but they get killed by the sucky menu resolution.

Very good observations guys. I also had mixed feelings on whether to get NBA Live 07 because of all the "bad" reviews a lot of people submitted. I went to all the malls and game centers to try a demo for PS2 but didn't find any, so I settled for videos and screenshots to get a glimpse then finally decided to get one.

To my suprise it feels better playing the game now because the pace is a bit slower and more managable. I played the PS2 version since Live 04 using the Utah Jazz on default sliders (to give the AI all the advantage it needs) Superstar level, and 5 minute quarters with the camera angle of press box. Here are a few things that I also noticed better in the game.

1. Better rewards for moving the ball around to get an open shot. By forcing double teams during penetration you are able to kick out to an open player for an open dime, which suprisingly goes in most of the time (unlike in 06 where you have 2-3 seconds to shoot and you still miss it). This is also made possible by the touch pass feature that was added to this year's Live.

2. In relation to #1, the defenders are not as fast (or even faster) than the ball now. In the previous Lives the defenders oftentimes "teleport" to get in front of your open man or worse yet intercept the ball half the time. This really ticked me off in 06 that's why I compensated with the god-like moves of the Freestyle Superstars.

3. It was mentioned that the animations are great where ball handlers protect the ball like in the real game. You still can create space or penetrate by using crossovers but you'll encounter help defense which results in decreased number of penetrations to the basket (06 had a horrendous on-the-ball defense that does no justice to your hardwork)

4. It's true we can now feel at ease with the catch-up bug toned down but I like the fact that some players like Artest, Bowen and Kirelenko can still catch up to you since their defensive stats let them. At least some realism is exhibited here and makes the game more technically sound.

5. Thank god that the freestyle superstar moves have been stripped of its omnipotent powers. No more outside stopper easy steals, no more highflyer dunks from the freethrow line, no more inside scorer jump hooks (that can actually also make 3's) and no more outside scorer double-pump-windmill-whatcahmacallit-shot that's unblockable and is made 90% of the time.

6. The lay-ups and reverses underneath the basket are now blockable. Again in reference to 06 where you can penetrate inside the offensive/charging foul circle and make 99% of your lay-ups and reverses.

7. Alleluia you can rebound!!! The number of offensive rebounds have been cut drastically this year. I remember in 06 where offensive rebounds outnumber defensive rebounds 1.5:1. Now your players know how to box out and you can also help rebound yourself on the weakside.

Now the my list of gripes:

1. I can't seem to be able to pick/steal a pass even though I already anticipated it well ahead of time. In 06 this makes it possible for you to make easy fast breaks and rewards you for playing defense.

2. The prohop and power dribble kinda got tricky now because of the way its executed in the control pad (up right analog stick) and its not instant unlike in 06. The move isn't really that powerful in 06 because 50% of the time using the move has it consequences. However if you have Shaq, Amare, Ben Wallace or Carlos Boozer underneath the basket, just like in real life, they use the power dribble to clear the defender and make the thunderous slam.

3. Freethrows, that a whack. No need for futher explanation

4. Cannot turn off fatigue. I know its more realistic but I really have gotten lazy substituting people...I mean I only play 5 minute quarters. I guess EA wants to give the bench players a chance to play since in the inclusion of the X-Factor feature.

5. Minor gripe but really has been the achilles' heal of NBA Live is the passing. They still haven't made any adjustments to its accuracy. But I got over it by being proficient with the direct pass (note: its executed by holding down the L2 + the designated button of a player. They changed it to a toggle mode this year and the designations for the center and small foward have been switched)

6.. Maybe really not related, but the AI point guard penetrates like crazy and oftentimes can score at will. But thanks in large part to the realism added to this years Live, you can switch to the last man back (L2) and at least attempt to distrupt if not block this pesky point guard.

Overall, I really liked the game like all previous NBA Lives as I have been a fan of the series since Lakers vs Celtics PC/Sega Genesis games way back in the early 90's. 07 needs a little tweak with the game speed to increase the play just a tad bit....meaning slider adjustment. I don't concetrate on offense when playing Live since it always presents itself to you when you play hardworking defense. So to me, defense is always my main focus that's why I play Superstar level where shots don't come easy.

I just wish EA can combine all the good things of all previous NBA Lives into one released game. It feels like all EA releases are betas but hey nobody's perfect.

On Superstar difficulty, when you are on transition defense in the open court and you attempt to take a charge too early, the cpu player will drive around your player. I think this is some great AI because in 06 you could just line up in a straight line with the cpu and it would run you right over, this year you gotta time it.

I also like the fact that the cpu utilizes their superstars and takes advantage of thier abilities as often as possible.

Yeah, but some of the computers uses of the superstar functions are just flat out overkill. Josh smith is an awesome leaper, and will posterize anyone, but after playing solid defense and trapping him on the baseline BEHIND the basket, the animation should not be letting him dunk from there. Not from a standstill at least. The wing player always being open is a cheap way to get 45 points from your two guard.

On the plus side, throwing alleyoops is as hard as it ought to be. The runs and momentum switches feel alot more in tune to the way the game has been played, as opposed when when your run would stop just because the computer was ready to stop letting you win. If you (or the computer) dont screw up, a run can span an entire quarter, effectively sealing the game. The lineup synergy is awesome, They finally acknolegded that the team full of the best players wont always be the hardest team to beat. (See 05 Lakers, lol) Theyre getting some big things right, but the bugs destroy the momentum they should be gaining.

i agree with most of what have been said,im slowly starting to get used to the manual CPU subbing and also my defense is good enough to stop most of the star players in the league..all but Wade, hes too quick to keep up with for my defenders ..btw can someone help with the freethrow shooting?i just cant seem to make no freethrows at all shit

there are a lot of pros in this game... iut's just that some of the cons really make you feel bad bout it.. once they are fixed, as i've said, this is the best Live in a LONG time.

I don't mind the seperate buttons cept for when I tap the wrong one :(

They need to bring back back down

And I feel that FSS isn't really needed... still makes it too easy to score sometimes.

But I can overlook these things (Y) it's a pretty good game.

07 NOT ALL BAD

Postby Jed_Dwyane on Mon Oct 16, 2006 5:23 pm

I also really enjoy the layout of the menu and how it look (PS2). In 06 it looked so crappy!

Now that the direct pass icons stay above the players after one touch of the L2 button. No pressing it then finding the open man and it turning off then a unwanted shot from half court of a lay up from 25 feet.

No real annoying bugs for me...I playin 12 min quarters and simming until the fourth where i step in. At least the benches get some minutes instead of 0.

I like the back down being on the analog stick, I just wish there was still a pro hob button, I really miss being able to do my allan houston moves. even iff the it could just be implemented quicker then I could work with it, but as is its useless.

my fav. add on is how you can yoke on somebody without have to be a highflyer !

the animation is great.

i used smush parker and yammed on jj reddick today.

the best part about this new feature is that you can really make a guy look bad, even when you arn't a star or superstar player.

the layup's are tight too.

the auto-matic switchhands lay up is great , and really makes post defenders look stupid when they try to block.

i really like this game.

the new inside scorer moves are great too. the take the ball over your head and lay -up move is great .

also the outscorer cradle the ball and lay- up is dope.

the blocks have improved since last year, and the way the you can run on a fast break and split defenders by using you turbo right, makes defence to offence transition more real and like-able.

the ally-oops are crazy !

i threw the reverse ally yesterday and watched about 9 times, just because i never saw it.

the game play animations are outstanding.

like how if you throw a oop inthe open court , guys high five when the play is over, they beat there chest on hit shots in close games , man the new version has so much to offer .

There's a lot of positives when you play 2players. . but whne you play the computer. . .I just dont like it at all!! This game has so much potential, but messed up by some annoying bugs!! All they pretty much need to do for the current gen version for next year is fix all the bugs, and the game should be alright!!

I agree with everything Mmp said. . .
