That's exactly what I'm referring to. He's a complete moron & the perfect definition of the word nincompoop. Butler for Brown? The Lakers needed a big man, but they got a pussy.

Add another point for Kupchak.

hahaha, i actually think that brown could become *somewhat* solid if he ever manages to assert himself, work hard, and play smart basketball. hes obviously not gonna be wat ppl envisioned in 2001, but he still has all the tools to become a solid player in the NBA. i still gotta say that the best hel ever be is like a 16 and 8 or 9 guy, but as i said hes gonna have to work pretty hard

Butler for Brown was a bad deal?

It is if you value offense over defense.

Brown was one of the very few players last season who made KG, Rasheed and even Duncan work hard.

Caron Butler? Yeah, another small forward and.......Ole!

Butler had trade value. They landed Brown. It's not as if Brown was the DPOTY. At times he played well defense and you figure giving away a bunch of talent like Caron is worth only ocassional defense? How far will you not go to defend some of the moronic stuff done by Kupchak?

Nevermind, Brown is the pwn.

Butler has a lot more value than Brown. Butler is a proven score, while Brown hasn't proved anything. Lakers were desperate to get a big man, and at the time that was the only deal they could get. Remember, the deal also included Atkins(only for salary cap reasons), which makes the deal even worse. If they signed Brown to a smaller salary, then it might see less ridiculous.

I don't agree with you. I think we all more or less expected Lakers to make the playoffs and get knocked off in the first round, at least I did. Some players did surprise me (namely Smush Parker and Vujacic with his hustle) and winning 6 games against Suns was also something I didn't expect, but seriously, should we expect that their additions (Radmanovic, Farmar, Williams and Turiaf) are enough to get them past (a healthy) Houston, SA, Sacramento, Phoenix, Dallas, LAC, etc.? Turiaf is a nice hustle player, but so is Mark Madsen, Farmar probably won't play a lot, Willams is a veteran presence in the Mckie mold and Radmanovic does bring them what they needed (a 3pt threat), but is soft like hell and can't rebound or play D. There are too many ifs with this team and their best isn't good enough.

Cut the crap. I hate Mitch Kupchak as much as you hate Jerry Buss.

The lakers NEEDED a big and Phil Jackson was determined to trade for a big.

Here's what apparently happened:
- At the deadline, Orleans was willing to trade Baron Davis for a package with Butler as the main piece. Lakers decided they need a big(which was VERY obvious).

- Preseason 2005, the lakers went searching for a 2 way big, Magloire was available, Milwaukee had a better offer.

- Phil Jackson signs with the lakers and does his own scouting, calls Michael Jordan, Jordan endorsed trading for Kwame Brown.

- Jerry West decided he wants Brown, offered a package of Posey and Lorenzen Wright for Kwame. Lakers counter with offering their only trade bait, Caron Butler.

Now, considering Kwame was the only big man available at the time that the lakers could afford, who would've you traded Butler for instead?

Oh, and the lakers gave up a talented small forward(a dime a dozen eh?) who has time and time again proved that he is a matador for a big man who progressed significantly. Ole

Laker boards even had an emoticon for Caron in the 04-05 season.

So in summary, Kwame Brown was the only decent big that can defend available at the time they traded Caron.

If the lakers did not trade Butler for Kwame, the lakers would have had Andrew Bynum or Corie Blount starting in the playoffs.

And if the lakers did not trade for Kwame, then the 04-05 season would be repeated and we would have guys like Chris Webber look like Shaq when playing against the lakers.

He's not decent?

He did average double digits in the playoffs and he did a GREAT job defending players like snaq, duncan, kg, sheed etc.

No one in the NBDL can even dream of accomplishing that.

Really, the Kobe v. Shaq matchup is getting old, it's pretty evident in the media that they've gotten over hating each other and now are just indifferent.

What do you think is the best Lakers can do? 45 wins? I can see them reaching the playoffs, but getting knocked out of the first round again.

i see them advancing depending on the way they play..and how confident they are...last year expected a Phoenix sweep of LA, but LA was able to give them a scare, and really should have put them away but i noticed they went more perimeter during games 5-7 unlike games 1-4.

i expect around 48 wins..they won 45 last year, but lost like 11? games they should have won (leading or tied in the final minute) so nothing is for sure with this team.

the lakers vs clips match-up was supposed to be the most anticipated playoff match-up. imagine this. the same arena, the same fans, the same locker rooms, no travel, less expense. man! too bad the lakers screwed up!
