NBA Live 07 Previews & Finals Predictions

Postby Andrew on Thu Jun 08, 2006 11:31 pm

That's right, we've scored some preview media. :)

Andrew wrote:EA Sports have provided us with some NBA Live 07 preview screenshots and predictions in preparation for the 2006 NBA Finals. Contrary to the current poll results here on the NLSC, NBA Live 07 predicts a 4-3 victory for the Dallas Mavericks in the 2006 Finals with MVP honours going to Dirk Nowitzki who averaged 25.3 ppg and 10 rpg along the way. See below for game by game results and don't forget to check out the screens in our NBA Live 07 Media Section.

Full story here. Yes, it's media that's making the rounds and yes, it was sent to us as well and we have permission to post it. :)

UPDATE: It seems the video we were originally sent was indeed from NBA Live 06 as SHAFT23 and a couple of others suggested. Apologies for the error, the original information packaged did identify the video as being from NBA Live 07.

The screenshots however are from the current gen version of NBA Live 07.

Excellent stuff Andrew. I'm glad to see our contact with EA isn't totally abolished. :cool:

I'm dissapointed to see we won't be getting xbox360 graphics on the pc though. :evil:

Wow! That's awesome on EA's behalf. Good to see them contact us and give us a sneak peak. Did they use PC or console?

Will comment later...

EDIT: Or just now. I haven't seen the video yet. But the screens look just like Live06. Errr...

EXACTLY like 06. I don't mind though, at least my comp will run it smoothly@1280x1024. But I really hope will get some perfect gameplay, if they wont work on the graphics. I'm downloading the video right now to see if we got anything significant.

Pics look like 06, but video is far more advanced. Are the pictures from the PC and video from console version? Considering the X-Box 360/PS3 are getting facial movement etc., this looks to be all PC.

Some notes after viewing the video:
  • animation is still very robotic and it looks like sliding isn't exactly gone;
  • graphics are improved and are Shaq has unique moves quite nice. Nothing fancy, but 'effective'. I like it.
  • realism looks improved. Dunks are much more realistic (the only fancy dunks were by Wade on fastbreak (Y)), the up-and-under move doesn't look as Jordanesque as it did, but Shaq blocking a baby hook? Twice? That's a no-no. Outlet passes should also be improved (you don't start the offense with the over the head pass);
  • Shaq looks and moves like a man. I didn't see any major finesse moves from him, which is great;
  • signature moves (free throws)? Nice touch;
  • is there still too many blocks?
  • there is no big difference in speed/quickness between big guys and speedy guards (Harris, Wade);

Quite a few flaws, but a definite improvement (Y).

For some reason, I think the limbs on some of the players are freakishly long.
and I thought it was kinda funny how the crowd would always stand up and sit down after every play.

but the previews are looking very nice. looking forward to it. :D

Am I the only one who thinks that entire video looks like a claymation movie? I swear I saw Wallace and Gromit on the sidelines.

edit: Also, the fans seem to jump up whenever a shot is attempted, by EITHER team :? I hope that's fixed. Nice to see the fans doing something though, and actually looking somewhat like people rather than cardboard cutouts. The animation in which they stand up is kind of odd too, all at once and they sit down immediately. Not to complain about new 'features', just observing.

Nice job Andrew :)

The screenshots looks very much like the XBox ones that came out for 06; plus, the PC has been the last port in previous years, not the first, so I think it's safe to say that the screenshots are XBox, and not PC. By the way, note the shading on the jerseys, looks like it's been re-done.

As for the video: I was expecting more of a change in the graphics department, but it's still nice. Only thing I don't like about the graphics though is that the atmosphere isn't good at all. The animations looks like they've really improved from last year, but they're still very choppy. And another thing is that the AI really needs to step it up...

They've made progress, but overall, I'm not impressed, but then again, it's still very early.

You're probably right. The resolution looks to be too small for screens to be taken on a PC. I highly doubt they would use something like 640x480 for the media material, if they were playing on a PC.

It's pretty sad when we, the members of NLSC, can compare our own screenshots and the pictures that we have of Live 06 that are much better than EA's Live 07. Of course, we have patches, but that's the point I'm trying to set: EA needs to step up their game. I'll be viewing the video in a just a few moments and I'll edit this post at a later time.

Video looked promising. I really liked the new dunk animations as they looked much more realistic. I thought maybe Josh Howard should've been the one throwing it down and hanging around like Posey did in I think Game Three, but yeah, I'm impressed. I like how they've included the individual free-throw routines for different player. Oh yeah, did anybody else find it funny how Shaq was hitting his free-throws yet Dirk couldn't get any to go down?

Uh, I disagree. That was one of the things i noticed that guards were alot faster than bigmen. Did you see Wade blow by Dirk and do that windmill dunk? He blew by Dirk like 2 or 3 times in the video. And I saw Devin Harris go up court and pass Dirk as well.

Nice to see the dunk-on animations made it back into the game. And it's also good to see some of the old dunks from 04 and 05 back in the game. I think 04 had some of the more realistic dunks. Also I like the animations when the players would go up for a dunk and get fouled. Looks much more realistic than years past.

But as noted before, alot of the animations aren't fluid. The passing needs work, they turn and pass too quickly. I'd like to see more fluid catches, I saw one.

Oh one more, notice how the crowds react? Needs improvement, I think that isn't so hard for EA.

edit: looks kinda uncomplete... since there isnt any ESPN stuff yet... and they didnt even show us the finals mvp awarding stuff... looking forward

Well from what I've seen I assume that the Screenshots and the Video are taken from different platforms. While the Screens look like an early PC version (could also be an improved 06 version), the Video looks more like Xbox360. You can see the difference especially when paying close attention to the crowd.

The Video looks very promising. I like the improved animations. I hope EA will improve the graphics for the PC version either.

Wait, does the video have sound? I didn't hear any and I was wondering if maybe it was just my computer. I don't believe it had sound, which sucks. :( Did it?

Checked out the pics but still waiting for the video to finish

Nba Live 06 looks awesome whoops I mean Nba Live 07. imo thats pretty much the final product in terms of gfx just a few things they'll touch up like the crowd with some of em having jerseys they better put more than just the mavs alternative and have a few more ppl with jerseys on

only a minor thing but how come they still dont have the usa flag on the backboard?

Dirk doing the mj/dr j esqe, split legs dunk better not come up 90% again in 07 so sick of seeing it in 06.
