we had to scab to find a coach, unpaid volunteer of course....I was all set to do the Bill Russell-like player-coach thing that season too....ahh well...

hmm....could be my buddy who works up in North Queensland....although unlikely I'd say as he coaches Queensland U18's....although I think he was gonna coach AIS team or maybe not....I expect him to be coaching in US college scene as an assistant within 5-10 years....no doubt....

I dont think we will get someone that high up... we'll get a rep coach.. but not state! We got an assistant... trying to get this guy as our secodn assitant... hes new and damn he got game. Burnt the teams MVP from last year in 1-on-1 and when he plays 5-on-5... he makes everything so easy for his teammates!

Kwame Brown Welcomes Wizards to His New Home

Jan 22, Los Angeles - Lakers center Kwame Brown and point guard Juan Dixon strolled over to the visitor's bench to shake hands with their former teammates and Wizards Head Coach Eddie Jordan. They had a little chat before the player introductions, afterwards Brown went onto business.
Kwame Brown showed the team that gave up on him what he was capable of as he became a one man wrecking team by putting up 33 points, 19 rebounds and 6 assists. "Kwame was uncontrolable tonight," former teammate Antawn Jamison, who scored 24 and 12 stated, "He was a monster!"
Lakers Head Coach Magic Johnson also said, "Before the game I told Kwame he could score all he liked. I told him he was the primary option for this game and it's a shame he missed 9 free throws, he could have scored 40."
Kwame was well flanked by shooting ace Kareem Rush and reboundign machine Carlos Boozer who had 21 points and 21 rebounds respectively. "Tonight, I have to thank my team for supporting me," Kwame told a sideline reporter after the game, "They really dumped the ball down low for me and gave me a lot of good opportunities!"
The two teams were locked in a tight game which saw the lead fluctuate and change throughout the total 48 minutes of action. Kwame Brown scored 13 points in the second quarter, including an idividual 6-0 run near the end of the first half which brought his team back towards the opposition's scoreline. In the thrid quarter, he scored 10 of the Lakers 14-0 run at the beggining of the third quarter to send the Lakers' advantage to rocket up to 12.
However, the Wizards took advantage of the Lakers starting five's absence to fight back to a tieds game with 2:01 left. It was Kareem Rush who stepped in to sink two treys in a row before Kwame Brown scored 1 free throw to seal the win with 22.4 seconds left.
7'3" Peter John Ramos scored 11 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks to support his skipper; Antawn Jamison. Gilbert Arenas added 10 points on a shocking 5-28 from the field while Jarvis Hayes added 15 and Jermaine Fowles chipped in 10, both from off the bench.
"We let this one slip tonight," Arenas angrily snapped at reporters, "We shouldn't have lost. I was playing so bad, my shots just weren't dropping!"

Kobe Bryant's season tumbled further after he aggravated an ankle injury in the Lakers' 110-100 win ove rthe New York Knicks. Since then the Lakers are still riding a four game winning streak and the rest of the team has sicne been 'revived' and playing with a new found energy.
It was rookie Fredrick Ratchuk who had his best month of his Lakers career. The English rookie has averaged 19 ppg, 13 apg and 4 spg and is the sole reason for the team being able to cover for their missing star player.
"Ratchuk has provided the perfect leadership we need without Kobe," Head Coach Magic Johnson says, "We're glad we picked him up this season!"
C Kwame Brown has averaged 23 ppg, 16 rpg, 3 apg and 2 bpg and frontcourt partner PF Carlos Boozer has stayed steady at scoring with 17 ppg but manned the boards too well at 17 rpg. "Our two bigs really scored well in the post and cleaned up the glass," Magic said. SG Kareem Rush was unstoppable with 20 ppg sinking any shot he got.
The team has now moved right into 1st place of the Western Conference and with a light schedule ahead, the Lakers should stay in this position.

Miami Heat Center Shaquille O'neal was awarded his second Player of the Month of the season as he led his 10-9 Heat to a 3-4 January record. The 7'1" player averaged 25 ppg, 13 rpg and 1.6 bpg for the course of the month.
Shaq scored 28 points, 16 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 blocks in a 110-90 decimation of the Seattle Supersonics. He harrased Robert Swift in the paint and fouled Swift out only after 18 minutes. "That was so quick," Swift had remarked, "I think I only touched the ball twice." O'neal scored a season high 45 points in a 109-91 win over the Chicago Bulls and capped off his stellar month with a same winning dunk over Tim Duncan, that beat the Spurs 107-106. Shaq finished on 22 points, 14 rebounds for that game.
Kevin Garnett, last month's winner won the award once again turning in even more impressive statistics at a clip of 25 ppg, 13 rpg, 3 apg, 3 spg and 3 bpg. His team is currently on a 4 game winning streak to close out the month and are at 11-7 for the season.
Garnett's stats have been amazing as he scored at least 20 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocks in all of his last four games. Against the Memphis Grizzlies he recorded 21, 15, 7, 6 and 4 in a 98-95 win in which he also assisted Wally Sczerbiak's game winning trey. He scored 27, 10, 5, 5 and 3 in a 89-96 win over the Miami Heat. Garnett upstaged Shaquille O'neal in a batlle between the two giants. Garnett's 22, 11, 6, 4, 4 led to a 100-81 win over the New Orleans Hornets. His 32, 14, 5, 4, 7 and three point play helped shock the Utah Jazz in a surprising comeback 101-104 win.

6'1" SG Cothran Tyson of Indiana College and 7'1" C Xavier Radwan of Guyana both won their second GotMilk? Rookie of the Month awards for this season. Tyson, the Charlotte rookie who was picked 4th overall this year averaged 18 ppg, 4 rpg, 5 apg and 2 spg and led the Bobcats to a 4-2 record. A second round pick, Xavier helped the Warriors to two big wins after a dismal 2-6 record for the month en route to his 7 ppg, 9 rpg, 2 apg month.
Cothran Tyson scored 12 points and 7 assists in the Bobcats' 94-76 win over the Toronto Raptors. He then scored 14 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and held LeBron James to 7 points on 3-21 shooting in a 93-80 win against the Cleveland Cavs. In a 109-81 win against the Milwaukee Bucks, Tyson had a stellar scoring night with a career high 7 three pointers scored and finished with 23 points. He then scored a career high 35 points against the Miami Heat in a 103-89 triumph.
"Tyson has matured very quickly," Emeka Okafor said of his teammate, "He's taking smarter shots and all. It's great watching him improve everyday!"
Xavier Radwan's triple double of 11 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists came at a great time when he helped his team break a losing streak at 3 with a 80-89 win against the Phoenix Suns. He then had 15 and 12 against the Washington Wizards as the Warriors won 113-78. Yesterday, he exploed for 18 points, 14 rebounds and 5 blocks in a 109-89 loss to the Atlanta Hawks and helped foul out PF Antoine Walker.

The Kings have four potential All-stars in their starting five with Brad Miller, Peja Stojakovic, Chris Webber and Mike Bibby. The Lakers have three potential All-stars in Kobe Bryant, Ron Artest and Carlos Boozer. Both teams have deep benches and both have great coaches. And both have similar records.
So who will win the Pacfic Division?
Spurs and Tim Duncan in Trouble:
Tim Duncan has already suffered three seperate injuries this season. The Spurs just don't play well without him. This time a strained shoulder has sidelined him for two weeks. If he keeps getting injured, the team's playoffs will be badly affected by his on and off status! Maybe it's time to get some backup for Timmy?
The Wooden Spooners:
New Orleans, Golden State and the Clippers are at the bottom of the standings. It seems like they won't be getting too far for the remainder of the season but it will be interesting to see how Baron Davis will react to his team's horrid second season in the West. And second rounder Xavier Radwan improving every game for his struggling team. The Clippers suffering another loterry season- do the Clippers front office get anything right?
Stuck in Between:
The West is so tight that any team can make it or miss out on the postseason. Minnesota, Phoenix, Portland, Dallas, Utah and Houston are all in the mix to grab the final four spots o nthe playoff tree. Who will make it? KG and co. really want to make it again. The Suns' Amare, Marion and Nash are hungry. Can Portland be lead by their young guns? Does Dallas need more than only Dirk to help raise to that extra level? Utah is growing impatient with their young core of players- should they trade them for vets? And will Yao and T-mac start to dominate yet?

Detroit: Too Dominant?
The Detroit Pistons look like they are unstoppable. They have only lost one game to the San Antonio Spurs and might not lose another game. One thing is for sure and that is that the Pistons will be the number one seed in the Eastern Conference. This team looks like they may win it all... defence does win championships!
New York's Revival:
The Knicks are playing great basketball and following the lead of Stephon Marbury and Tim Thomas to a Division leading 12-7 record. The team's fast paced offence may seem like it will drain the team's energy but GM Isiah Thomas built this team to be able to score. If they keep winning, they may be able to steal second place from Orlando.
Grant Hill's Magic:
Grant Hill's return to basketball was a fairytale story and this season, his team may be good enough to reach the Conference Finals. Another step towards a championship! Steve Francis, Cuttino Mobley, Dwight Howard are ready to step up their games and support their captain in his quest for a ring. If they do step up, the Magic should stay in second or third!
LeBron James and the Cavs:
The Cavs are 4-10 but only 2.0 games behind the Nets for an eigth seeding. The Eastern Conference is so weak that the second worst teams could still claim a berth in the playoffs however, the other teams would have to lose a lot of games i norder for that to happen. Unfortunately for the former Rookie of the Year, the Cavs don't look playoffs bound... and maybe LeBron won't be comign back next season!
Indiana: From Faves to Losers!
The Pacers were deemed as favourties to lead the Eastern Conference. Then they traded Ron Artest and Jonathon Bender for Lamar Odom and Caron Butler and the results have been ugly. Odom, Butler and O'neal just haven't coexisted oncourt well enough and this season looks to be a washout!

we play them next.. im surprised that they arent performing as well as i thought they would...
EDIT: Actually, the Pacers arent doing bad when compared to the rest of the East... they could make the Playoffs... but I as the Lakers will crush their hopes!

Grant Hill Scores Game Winner
Los Angeles Lakers 98 @ Orlando Magic 100
Feb 5, Orlando - Orlando PF Dwight Howard got injured with 5:45 to play in this game and Orlando erased the Lakers' early 22 point lead to come back and win it with 0.8 seconds left on the clock. Grant Hill's jumper near the right side on the baseline sealed a 2 point win ove rthe Los Angeles Lakers whose 4 game winning streak was snapped.
Steve Francis scored 31 points and was impressive all night long as he kept making shot after shot to keep his team in the game. During the fourth quarter when his team caught up to the visitors, Kelvin Cato, Cuttino Mobley and Grant Hill helped take over.
Cato and Hill played brilliant defence against Lakers SG Kareem Rush and PF Carlos Boozer to stop the Lakers from getting too far ahead. Grant Hill finished with 12 points, Cato had 16, 10, 3 steals and 3 blocks. Sophomore Dwight Howard also put in a 13, 8 performance for the home side.
Head Coach Magic Johnson was throwing a fit after the game. "I can't believe we lost this one? How the heck did we give this one away? If we do this every night, we won't be going very far!"
The Lakers played a brillaint first quarter before struggling for the rest of the game. Their lack of defensive intensity really allowed the Magic to hold an advantage at the end of the game.
"Our lack of energy held us in check at the end of the game," Kwame Brown who scored 19 points and 16 rebounds said, "It wasn't the Magic who beat us, it was oruselves!"
The Lakers committed too many mistakes for the total course of the mtach. As assistant coach Brian Shaw analysed, "Turnovers and fouls. Way too many! Too many missed threes and our transition offence isn't working too well."
After falling behind late in the final period, Kwame Brown made a free throw to tie it up at 90 with 3:48 on the clock. Kelvin Cato's lone free throw put his team ahead 91-90 at the 3:37 mark before the score went up to 93-90 on a Cuttino Mobley jumper.
Ratchuk passed three defenders on his way to the hoop with 2:16 left and then stole the inbounds pass and scoring once again to send the Lakers up 93-94. Artest's intimidating defence forced Hill's rushed shot but the lakers failed to grab the rebound before Kelvin Cato snapped it up to dunk home 2 of his 16. Ratchuk then assisted a Kwame Brown dunk and the Lakers went up again 95-96. The Lakers then missed an opportunity to score after being forced into a 24 second violation.
Orlando leapt onto their opportunity to win the game with Steve Francis sinking a deep three over the smaller Juan Dixon with 39.0 seconds left. "That was a tough shot to hit," Cuttino Mobley exclaimed afterwards, "Props to my man Stevie for that shot!" Boozer then dunked hom 2 more points to level the game at 98-98 with 28.6 seconds left.
What came next was a huge defensive blunder as the Lakers played stiffling defence and forced Steve Francis to put up an ill-advise leaning jumper which barely hit the rim but both Lakers big men hesistated and moved out of the paint, allowign Kelvin Cato to gather i nthe rebound and passing to a wide open Hill. Hill knocked down the shot to win it with 0.8 secodns left on the clock.

Kareem Rush with Game Winning Layup

Feb 11, Los Angeles - Ron Artest continued the Lakers onslaught on their player's former teams. After Washington was ripped by former Wizard Kwame Brown, Indiana felt the offensive firepower of Ron Artest. Artest scored 31 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks in 41 minutes but it was teammate Kareem Rush who was the man of the moment.
Rush's layup at the buzzer forced officials to review it for 15 minutes after the game. The STAPLES crowd stayed in their seats for that duration and when the official was seen on the big screen flicking his wrist in a shooting motion signalling the shot counted, the bench and the crowd simultaneously erupted.
"That was crazy," Michael Cooper said, "It was like we had won the championship tonight!" Ron Artest was proud of his young backcourt partner, "Rush is turning into a very reliable player. When I passed him the ball at the end, I knew he could score!"
Kwame Brown had a foul plagued 22 and 16 as he sat out the first 9 minutes of the fourth quarter. Carlos Boozer put up a solid 18, 9 and 4 while Juan Dixon chipped in 14 points from off the pine. Rookie Fredrick Ratchuk came up huge, scoring 8 of his 9 in the final period and added a game high 10 assists and team-leading 4 steals.
Coach Magic Johnson was once again very vocal after the tough win shouting at his players for letting the Pacers back in the game at the end. "With 3 minutes left, we were winning by 6. Then we let them back into it. We must learn to hold onto our leads!"
Former Lakers Lamar Odom and Caron Butler had average outings. Odom was the better of the pair finishing with 14, 10 and 5 steals while Butler struggled on 5-14 shooting from the field and ended the night on a statline of 13, 6 and 3 steals. Jermaine led his team with 30 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 blocks and was helped by Jamal Tinsley's 29 points.
The fourth quarter began with a Pacers 11-2 run. Then the Lakers fought back and used a 7-0 scoring spurt to finally take over in the game. The final 2 minutes of the game had the fans guessing not twice but three times what could possibly happen next.
Tinsley made a three with 1:51 to send the Pacers up by 1 and the score to 116-115. Kareem Rush missed a shot on the other end but Ratchuk stole the ball at midcourt and the lakers ran back downcourt on the fatsbreak. Rush missed another wide open three before Brown grabbed the offensive rebound and fed Artest for a furocious driving dunk. Stephen Jackson then missed a three point attempt and the Lakers once again pushed the ball up quickly to feed Kwame for a dunk that put them ahead 116-119 with 46.7 seconds remaining. Lamar Odom hit a mid range jumper that helped his team rise within 1 point of the home team.
Fredrick Ratchuk then was immediately sent to the line but failed to captitalise on the chance to seal the match and missed his second free throw. The Lakers who were then only up by 2 at 118-120 fouled Stephen Jackson on his shot that went in and Jackson completed a three point play with 3.8 seconds left. The Pacers were then up 121-120 and set the scene for the heroics of Kareem Rush.
The Lakers called a timeout. Artest took the inbounds pass and spotted Rush who cut inside and then back out to the left hand side of the three point arc, he pump faked and got Stephen Jackson in the air before driving into the lane. Brfore reaching Jermaine O'neal and Lamar Odom, Rush jump stopped towards the hoop, passing between the two big men to score off a finger roll as the buzzer sounded at the same time.
"I swear that did not go in on time!" Caron Butler protested along with his teammates who all claimed the ball was still in Rush's hands at the end of the game. "He only shot the ball after the buzzer," Jermaine O'neal insisted.

NBA All-Star Weekend: Lakers Edition

Slam Dunk Competition
The Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant declined an invitation to particpate in the NBA Slam Dunk competition today, sources close to David Stren reported.
Bryant who has been sidelined with an ankle injury has been invited to join in the festivities after claiming he was fit to join in the show event. However, it seems that the star guard isn't ready to undertake and physical activity and will continue on his rehabilitation of his injury.
A Lakers spokesperson announced, "Kobe isn't fit yet. Why would he be there? (At All-star weekend)"
Bryant also gave his starting SG spot on the All-star team to Seattle Supersonics' Ray Allen and his spot on the team to Golden State Warriors' SF Mike Dunleavy Jr.
Three Point Contest
SG Kareem Rush who is amongst the better three point shooters in the NBA feels that he has been snubbed by the League for this season's NBA three point shootout. "I feel that I deserved to be in it this year!" Rush told a reporter yesterday.
"I have shot at 40% last season and this year, I have taken even more shots and I'm staying at the same level. This is my strength, why can't the League give me a chance to show it?"
His former coach Phil Jackson agreed as he was asked in an interview two weeks ago whether he felt Kareem was a future star, "He already is. Kareem can shoot the lights out, he just needs opportunities and since Kobe is out, we are seeing how well he shoots the rock!"

Kobe Bryant withdrew from the game but LA does have another rep. Surprisingly, it isn't Carlos Boozer nor Ron Artest. It is Kwame Brown. The 2001 1st overall draft pick who was considered a draft bust has taken his next big step and will sit on the bench for the West thanks to coach's merit. The 6'11" center was pick by a panal of coaches who thought he was worthy.
"I am happy to be included this year," Kwame said, "Thanks to the Lakers orginisation, I have finally become and All-star!"
The All-star starters were voted in and the results are as below:

Slam Dunk Competition
The Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant declined an invitation to particpate in the NBA Slam Dunk competition today, sources close to David Stren reported.
Bryant who has been sidelined with an ankle injury has been invited to join in the festivities after claiming he was fit to join in the show event. However, it seems that the star guard isn't ready to undertake and physical activity and will continue on his rehabilitation of his injury.
A Lakers spokesperson announced, "Kobe isn't fit yet. Why would he be there? (At All-star weekend)"
Bryant also gave his starting SG spot on the All-star team to Seattle Supersonics' Ray Allen and his spot on the team to Golden State Warriors' SF Mike Dunleavy Jr.
Three Point Contest
SG Kareem Rush who is amongst the better three point shooters in the NBA feels that he has been snubbed by the League for this season's NBA three point shootout. "I feel that I deserved to be in it this year!" Rush told a reporter yesterday.
"I have shot at 40% last season and this year, I have taken even more shots and I'm staying at the same level. This is my strength, why can't the League give me a chance to show it?"
His former coach Phil Jackson agreed as he was asked in an interview two weeks ago whether he felt Kareem was a future star, "He already is. Kareem can shoot the lights out, he just needs opportunities and since Kobe is out, we are seeing how well he shoots the rock!"

Lakers rookie Fredrick Ratchuk has been selected to start for the Rookie Squad for the Rookie Sophomore game. The 3rd overall pick of the 2006 NBA Draft who was drafted by the Golden State Warriors and later traded is averaging 11 ppg, 2 rpg, 6 apg and 2 spg. He leads all rookies in assists and steals.

GM SIT'S TOP 5 MVP CANDIDATES
These are my own hand picked MVP Candidates. The stats are accurate as of 1/2/06...
5. This is tied between Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan.
Bryant, my star SG is leading the league in points and steals. His is 1st amongst all guards in rebounds and is 9th in the NBA in assists. Tim Duncan, the Spurs' star big man is 18th in points, 4th in rebounds and 7th in blocks. He is shooting 55% from the field also. They are part of the top two Western Conference teams.
The reason why these gys aren't 3rd and 4th is one thing: injury. Both guys have missed 4 out of their team's 15 games so far this season and if they aren't considered part of their team's main game plans, they don't deserve MVP.
4. Carmelo Anthony
The young Nugget star spent the Summer improving on his knowledge of positioning himself for rebounds and it has payed off better than ever as Melo has somehow become as exciting as Shawn Marion on the offensive glass! Melo ranks a surprising 9th in the NBA for offensive rebounds and first in the category amongst small forwards.
He is 16th in scoring and his 12-6 Nuggets rely on him a lot as he ranks 9th in minutes played per game. Carmelo is this season's version of last year's LeBron James where James was a dark horse to win the award. We will see if Melo can get farther than James did.
3. Stephon Marbury
The New York Knicks are 12-7. And the reason for this transformation isn't due to Tim Thomas' 20 ppg, 10 rpg but it is due to Stephon Marbury reevaulating his style and adjusting it to fit the Knick's system. Marbury has done what Jason Kidd did for the Nets. He is first in assists in the NBA, 8th in steals and 7th in minutes played per game. His 18 ppg is a very healthy scoring average due to the fact that he directs an offence which produces five double figure scorers.
Could this be Marbury's breakout year after he's finally realised scoring isn't the answer to everything?
2. Kevin Garnett
Kevin Garnett has improved his inside scoring and hit the weightsroom and he has come back better than ever. The young dominating PF of Minnesota is having a fine statistical season by ranking 5th in scoring, 2nd in blocks, 8th in steals and 13th in offensive rebounds. He also plays a heavy bulk of minutes ranking 10th in the NBA.
Minnesota always relies on KG and the only thing he hasn't accomplished is reaching the NBA Finals. The MVP trophy isn't a concern to him because he might be on his way to winning it this year!

Shaq is 34 this year and he's still going. His stats are crazy as he ranks 2nd in scoring, 1st in rebounding, 3rd in minutes and 11th in blocks. He is shooting at a dominant 60% from the field. Although the Heat aren't playing too well, like Kobe last year, the stats alone should win hi mthe award!
Prediction: Shaquille O'Neal- He is the definately the favourite to win it this year!
