Anti Aliasing won't work

Postby ChrisCP3Paul on Thu Oct 24, 2013 6:48 am

in 2K14 no matter which setting and whether I override or not in Nvidia settings, I cannot get AA to work whatsoever, even within the video settings of the game if I set the MSAA to highest quality it makes absolutely no difference.... it's weird, if I max out on some SLI AA enabled at 32x I could see a performance hit as I get lower framerates than usual, but no visual difference at all
Been a few months since I played 2K13 but from what I remember various AA settings worked and produced desired results..... but then again thats when I was playing the game from 10 feet away on my 60 inch LED tv so I probably wasn't able to see the difference from that far, but now that I'm occasionally playing it on my 27 inch LED PC monitor just feet away from my head I think I'm actually able to see the pixelated edges where the AA should be working.... I do remember specifically Anisotropic Filtering you could definitely see a difference if enabled or disabled so I know for sure that worked

there is no difference at all no matter what Anti Aliasing setting I choose inside game via video settings or outside the game via nvidia software....

2k's settings doesn't fully enable AA, especially in menus, like editing players through the roster. I go and override the settings in Nvidia Control panel and it works for me. This is my set up

Maybe you need to do a clean sweep of your graphics drivers.

chicagoRAW, I play with the same settings except for FXAA. Don't you find that FXAA worsens picture quality?

I'm not sure, does it? It's really hard to notice the settings besides the AA up to like 8x.

When you notice it you notice it :D

IMO, MSAA looks better and crispier. FXAA gives this blurry effect, but is less taxing of FPS.

Basically I follow this formula -> if my VGA can handle the game with MSAA I go with MSAA, however if I go above 60fps I go for FXAA.

This summarizes it up:
FXAA is designed to be faster, and have a smaller memory footprint, than traditional MSAA, but with some compromises in precision and quality.

Oh yea. I'm just saying in 2K it's really hard to notice the settings. I tried maxing out the AA and other stuff but couldn't tell the difference from when it was on 8x.

I'll turn off fxaa though, i just randomly turned it on to try to get better visuals. what about the other settings, what do you have for those? Like texture filtering and stuff?

All other settings are as by default in latest nvidia control panel that comes with latest drivers.

I have the same exact settings as you posted, except I have FXAA - OFF and Antialiasing - Transparency set to Multisampling ;). Game looks stunning! You can also try Supersampling but I couldn't tell which was better (Multi or Supersampling). Try and experiment with different multipliers. Don't know what VGA you have, but on my gtx 680 anything goes in terms of max graphic settings, since nba 2k engine is smooth and light on GPU that it could run on galaxy s2 phone :D, but I did notice that on certain multipliers game gets a bit slower with FPS staying at 60! For instance on SSAAx8 game looks unreal, but the game feels less responsive altough fraps show the same constant 60 fps (vsync and tripple buffering is always on, so I am always @6ofps)<-raising game speed helps to solve this odd lag.

I have a gtx 570. Prob will upgrade soon, especially since AMD put out the 290x, but i'm also hesitant cause I'm probably going to be playing 2k14 on the PS4.

I'll set multisampling on.

FPS i get 80-81, when I play on my monitor i get some stuttering because it's 144hz, the TV at 60hz is smooth. But i'm going to enable the highest available refresh rate from the nvidia control panel and see if it gets a little smoother on the monitor.

You guys should really try out Nvidia Inspector if you like tweaking your settings beyond the usual Nvidia control panel..... Inspector has got a ridiculous amount of extra options

my case is a mistery
I don't know why but the control panel on nvidia settings not work...I have an old 9800gt on xp sp3 and I've installed the latest drivers ( release 7 day ago).
the profile changes not working...if I change aa...overlapper,enanced etc..fxaa or another application don't have any effect in the game
I have effect into the game only change fxaa ( but no AA) in the global control panel

the same things on far cry 3...and MOH 10 ( I have activated the fxaa by inspector), nba2k nothing..( control panel and inspector)

someone can say me why this problem? maybe it's a question of the windows xp and the games?
because I suppose that the problem is a combination of new driver ( compatible with old graphic card but certainly elaborated for the new card) and the old XP ( the same...new game are compatuble but not designed for the old systems)
