2015 NBA Playoffs: CHA vs. IND Games 3 & 4

Game 3:

Image

UnBEALieveable: Bobcats Take Game 3 Shootout
Bobcats 127, Pacers 125

The Charlotte Bobcats have undoubtedly been the team to watch these playoffs. After coming back from a 3-1 deficit to beat the Nets, they've now engaged the Pacers in the most thrilling series of these playoffs so far. Led by Brad Beal's efficient 31 point performance, Charlotte edged out the Pacers in an extremely high scoring game 3.

The game was close throughout, with neither team getting an edge - or a stop. Charlotte took control with a 41 point fourth quarter to edge the Pacers in a game that came down to the very end. The Bobcats take a 2-1 lead and will hope to capitalize on homecourt advantage again in game 4.

IND 36 23 32 34 | 125 - Stoudemire: 28/8/0; Stuckey: 19/5/12; George: 19/10/3 stls
CHA 30 34 22 41 | 127 - Beal: 31/5/7; Love: 25/7/1; McGee: 15/7/4 blks

Bobcats lead series 2-1.

Crewhead Out 10-12 Months With Torn MCL

Image

Terrible news for young Justine Crewhead, who will miss the playoffs as well as the entirety of next season with a torn MCL. The injury happed in the middle of the first quarter of game 3 against Philadelphia, not a minute after he entered the game. The Pistons, who went on to lose that game by 27, will now be without their sixth man for the playoffs.

Game 4:

Bobcats Up 3-1 Thanks To Love's Big Night
Bobcats 110, Pacers 103.

While the Bobcats playoff run has ultimately been successful up to this point, people have asking: when will Kevin Love show up? Well ladies and gentlemen, Kevin Love has arrived. Posting 25 points and 17 boards in a dominant win that was never in question, the Bobcats have taken a 3-1 series lead and are a win away from the conference finals.

The Pacers got an excellent game out of Anthony Randolph, but nobody else stepped up for Indiana, who must now come back from a 3-1 deficit. Nine teams in NBA history have done it, but unfortunately, they're playing against one of them.

IND 25 29 27 22 | 103 - A. Randolph: 23/10/2, 10-15 FG; Stoudemire: 16/7/0; Mills: 15/0/1
CHA 42 33 25 10 | 110 - Love: 25/17/4 blks, 7-12 FG; Bargnani: 24/6/0; Beal: 13/6/11

Bobcats lead series 3-1.

(1) Detroit vs. (4) Philadelphia
Series tied 2-2.

Thanks to big series from Perry Jones and Louis Williams, the Sixers have hung in there to tie the series with Detroit, who are still reeling from the gruesome injury to Justine Crewhead.

D. Granger: 17.8 PPG, 7 RPG; L. Williams: 21.2 PPG, 6.6 APG

(1) Los Angeles Lakers vs. (5) Golden State
Lakers lead 3-1.

Everyone knew the series was over when the Lakers won game 3 by a decisive 107-84 margin. However, the Warriors nonetheless played with heart and eked out game 4 to survive to play another day.

K. Bryant: 29.5 PPG, 5.8 RPG; Kevin Martin: 19.5 PPG

(2) Oklahoma City vs. (3) San Antonio
Series tied 2-2.

Between Dwight T coming to his senses about playing Kenny Young and the return of Martti Must from injury, the Spurs were able to tie their series with the Thunder, winning their home games by 3 and 4 points respectively.

B. Rice: 25 PPG, 6.5 RPG; J. Harden: 16 PPG

All-Defense First Team:
Rajon Rondo (BOS)
Dwyane Wade (MIA)
Kevin Durant (OKC)
Dorell Wright (PHX)

2015 Conference Semis In Review

Game 5:

Image

Pacers Survive Game 5 With OT Win
Indiana 117, Charlotte 115 (OT)

Kemba Walker was heartbroken to see his career night go to waste as the Pacers took game 5 in yet another thrilling affair. The game was close and high scoring throughout but the Pacers executed slightly better in the extra period to force a game 6 in Charlotte.

CHA 28 17 24 36 10 | 115 - Walker: 33/3/8, 15-16 FT; Love: 18/14/0; Bargnani: 23/6/0
IND 21 24 26 34 12 | 117 - Hibbert: 21/13/2; George: 17/14/2; Stoudemire: 18/2/1

Bobcats lead series 3-2.

Game 6:

Image

Bobcats Advance To Conference Finals!
Charlotte 103, Indiana 93

Despite a spirited effort from Amar'e Stoudemire and the Pacers, Charlotte ultimately showed who was the better team as they advance to the conference finals with a 103-93 win. The Bobcats got solid scoring across the board and their defense was as solid as ever. Charlotte took control of the game early in the third quarter and fed off the sellout crowd's energy to pull out the win.

Charlotte awaits the winner of the Pistons/76ers series, which is going to a game 7. The Bobcats have to be optimistic about their chances, with the Pistons losing Crewhead and the 76ers having posted a 44-38 record in the regular season. The Indiana Pacers meanwhile are going fishing.

IND 28 14 28 23 | 93 - Stoudemire: 23/12/0; George: 15/7/0; Hibbert: 12/8/1
CHA 24 25 31 23 | 103 - Love: 17/13/0; Bargnani: 19/7/1; McGee: 20/3/2 blks

Bobcats win series 4-2.

Around The NBA

Lakers def. Warriors 4-1

Thanks to a thoroughly dominant performance by Kobe Bryant, the Lakers made quick work of the Golden State Warriors, who have some big questions to answer this off-season.

Thunder def. Spurs 4-3

No Westbrook, no Problem. Despite Martti Must returning from injury to average a staggering 27 PPG and 9 RPG in four games, San Antonio ran out of gas in a devastating game 7 in which the Thunder dropped 136 points on them in regulation.

Pistons def. 76ers 4-3

It took 7 games, but the Pistons got past the pesky 76ers to advance to the conference finals, where the Bobcats await. Detroit hopes their balanced attack that got them the best regular season record will match Charlotte's size and star power.

2015 Conference Finals: Games 1 & 2

Game 1

Image

Bobcats Steal Game 1 Behind Love's Huge Game
Charlotte 107, Detroit 104

It took 32 points and 16 rebounds from Kevin Love as well as a comeback from down 8 with three minutes to go, but the Bobcats have managed to steal game 1 in Detroit with a 107-104 victory. With 17 seconds to go, the game tied, momentum and the ball in Charlotte's hands, Luol Deng sank a game-winning and-one that Detroit couldn't answer.

The Bobcats take a 1-0 lead to steal homecourt advantage. Danny Granger, who was held to just 6 points said "We're fine. Everyone knows who the better team is and that team is going to show up in game 2."

CHA 29 25 20 33 | 107 - Love: 32/16/2, 15-18 FT; Leng: 14/11/3 stls, hit gw; Beal: 18/4/3
DET 28 32 21 23 | 104 - Ellis: 24/6/3; Knight: 19/4/7; Monroe: 12/3/1, 5-6 FG

Bobcats lead series 1-0.

Game 2

Image

Charlotte Wins Game 2 In OT Thriller
Charlotte 120, Detroit 115

It took another thrilling fourth quarter comeback as well as overtime but the Bobcats have managed to reign supreme again in Detroit and now have a commanding 2-0 lead coming home. Behind a 36 point second quarter, Detroit led most of the game, but some late game heroism from Andrea Bargnani helped force an overtime period.

Greg Monroe and Danny Granger had big games for the Pistons, but their weak defense has been exposed. The Pistons must now win at least two games in Charlotte to win this series. All eyes will be on Charlotte in game 3 to see if they can take a commanding 3-0 lead in front of their home crowd.

CHA 27 26 27 29 11 | 120 - Bargnani: 33/3/0, 11-15 FG; Love: 20/15/2; Deng: 21/4/3 stls
DET 26 36 28 19 6 | 115 - Monroe: 29/9/6 TO's; Granger: 17/9/1; Ellis: 19/2/2

Bobcats lead series 2-0.

Lakers Lead Thunder 2-0

With seven point victories in the first two games, the Lakers lead the Westbrook-less Thunder 2-0 in the Western Conference Finals. Kobe has been the catalyst, averaging 25.5 points for the series. Kevin Durant, averaging 31 a game himself in two games, guaranteed a pair of victories in Oklahoma City.

2015 Conf. Finals: DET @ CHA Games 3 & 4

Game 3

Image
Monta Ellis felt at home as the Pistons donned their home jerseys for no clear reason.

Pistons Take Game 3 On The Road
Detroit 112, Charlotte 100

Detroit's patented balanced attack was on display as six Pistons scored in double digits en route to a 112-100 victory. The Pistons still trail 2-1, but made a statement, dominating at both ends.

Charlotte got solid play from their core players, but it wasn't enough as the defense simply wasn't there. Frank Vogel said of his team, "we aren't going to the Finals is we continue to play defense like this". Charlotte will hope to go up 3-1 with game 4 also at home.

DET 29 31 22 30 | 112 - Ellis: 26/6/2; Knight: 17/5/4; Ganger: 20/3/1
CHA 21 32 25 22 | 100 - Love: 22/14/1; Bargnani: 21/3/3 blks; Beal: 18/4/1

Bobcats lead series 2-1.

Game 4

Image
Love's fadeaway has gotten so good, you'd swear this were a stock photo...

Bobcats Maul Pistons To Take 3-1 Lead
Charlotte 107, Detroit 89

The Bobcats defense finally showed up as they held the Pistons to an 11 point third quarter en route to their first blowout win of the series. Charlotte got strong contributions across the board while only David West showed up for the Pistons, who fell behind by 15 points after the first quarter.

The Bobcats now take a 3-1 lead and will have their first chance to clinch their first Finals appearance in Detroit for Game 5. Chauncey Billups, on what may be his last game: "I've been on championship-caliber teams and this is one of them."

DET 20 28 11 20 | 89 - D. West: 21/13/2; Arenas: 14/1/4; Ellis: 15/2/0
CHA 32 24 22 26 | 107 - Love: 25/9/1; Beal: 16/3/8; W. Chandler: 21/1/1, 6-9 FG

Bobcats lead series 3-1.

Image

Ouch! First Westbrook out for the season with a broken jaw (I heard he did it trying too hard to eat an apple but maybe Derrick Rose spread that rumor...), and now the defending champs lose their starting center. With the series knotted against the Lakers, the Thunder will have their work cut out for them.

2015 NBA Conference Finals In Review

Game 5

Image

Pistons Dominate At Home To Win Game 5
Detroit 112, Charlotte 100

In a game that wasn't nearly as close as the final score might suggest, the Pistons dominated the Bobcats from start to finish to win game 5 and stave off elimination for another day. The Pistons once again benefited from a balanced attack and look like a team that could force a game 7 by winning in Charlotte.

"We played like shit", says Kevin Love, who had 18 points and 8 boards in the loss. The pressure is now on both teams for game 6 - it's win or go home for the Pistons, and win or go to Detroit for the Bobcats.

CHA 23 20 25 32 | 100 - Deng: 18/11/2; Love: 18/8/2; Walker: 12/8/4
DET 22 33 35 22 | 112 - Monroe: 15/13/3 blks; Knight: 21/4/4; West: 12/9/2

Bobcats lead series 3-2.

Game 6

Image

Bobcats Advance To NBA Finals In Nail Biter
Charlotte 110, Detroit 107

Despite a combined 62 points from Danny Granger and Brandon Knight, the Pistons just weren't quite good enough in the end as Charlotte advances to their first ever NBA finals, where they await the winner of game 7 of the Western Conference Finals. Charlotte had no particular standouts as they used a Pistons-esque balanced attack to keep up with the Pistons offense.

The Bobcats end Miami's steak of four finals appearances in a row. When asked who he'd prefer to play in the NBA Finals, Kevin Love joked "Oklahoma City. But really, the better team will win and we're up for the challenge. WOO!" A teary Danny Granger left the stadium without talking to reporters.

DET 26 35 23 23 | 107 - Knight: 32/7/6; Granger: 30/7/2; West: 14/13/1
CHA 30 31 24 25 | 110 - Love: 17/5/1; Deng: 16/6/2; Walker: 14/5/5

Isiah Thomas An Unlikely Hero As Lakers Advance In Blowout Fashion
Los Angeles 119, Oklahoma City 93

Behind a 29 point outburst from Isaiah Thomas, the Lakers have won game 7 of the Western Conference Finals. The Thunder, shorthanded without Russell Westbrook or Kendrick Perkins, were simply no match in the end for the Lakers, who will advance to face the Charlotte Bobcats. All bets are off, but the Lakers will have homecourt advantage.

2015 NBA Finals: Charlotte Bobcats [53-29; 12-7] vs. Los Angeles Lakers [57-25; 12-6]

Game 1

Image
It was really Kobe's 17 points that won them the game.

Lakers Take Game 1 With Balanced Attack
Lakers 111, Bobcats 101

Kevin Love had the best individual line of the night with 24 points and 12 rebounds but the Lakers came away with the win thanks to great performances across the board. Despite Bynum struggling with foul trouble, Los Angeles was able to pull away in the third courtesy of some timely buckets by Jodie Meeks.

Kevin Love on the loss: "we really just need to play defense". Frank Vogel on Kevin Love's comments: "ha!". Charlotte will have one more chance to steal homecourt advantage before the series shifts to Charlotte for games 3-5.

CHA 23 28 25 25 | 101 - Love: 24 pts, 12 rebs; Beal: 15 pts, 6 asts, 3 rebs; Bargnani: 17 pts
LAL 23 34 30 24 | 111 - Gasol: 13 pts, 8 rebs, 8 asts; I. Thomas: 16 pts, 9 asts; Bryant: 17 pts, 8 rebs, 8 TO's

Lakers lead series 1-0

Game 2

Image
Okay, this time it really was Kobe.

Kobe Runs Bobcats Out Of The Building
Lakers 122, Bobcats 102

Kobe Bryant had 36 points on 14-20 shooting from the field as the Lakers dominated the Bobcats with an offensive onslaught. In a game that was only close in the first quarter, Charlotte was never in it, with Kevin Love struggling and the team having no answer for the dominant Laker offense. "Even with their salaries, they couldn't buy a stop", commented Jeff Van Gundy.

The Bobcats now go home facing a 2-0 deficit and a must-win game 3. Charlotte will hope to be the first team since the 2006 Miami Heat to win a title after dropping the first two games of the finals.

Bobcats Take Game 3 With Hot Shooting
Bobcats 118, Lakers 108

In a series that has been all offense, Charlotte had finally prevailed, courtesy of 54% shooting from the field. Kobe had 31 for LA, but Love and Bargnani had huge games. Though Charlotte played very well, they were not able to close out the Lakers until the fourth quarter. NBA fans are loving it, but coaches Mike Brown and Frank Vogel can't be enjoying the lack of defense being played in this series. If one team can lock down on D, that may be the key to winning these finals.

Games 4 and 5 will be played in Charlotte. Should they be necessary, games 6 and 7 will shift back to Staples Center. However, Kobe Bryant expects to win the title on Charlotte's home floor.

LAL 26 24 34 24 | 108 - Bryant: 31 pts, 4 rebs, 12-25 FG; Gasol: 22 pts, 5 rebs; Bynum: 12 pts, 8 rebs
CHA 22 33 32 31 | 118 - Love: 26 pts, 9 rebs; Bargnani: 21 pts, 9 rebs; Beal: 17 pts, 4 rebs

Lakers lead series 2-1

Lakers Finally Hold Bobcats Under 100 Points, Take 3-1 Lead
Lakers 106, Bobcats 97

The Lakers are just one game away from raising banner #18 as the Lakers finally buckled down on defense and stole game 4 in Charlotte. Kevin Love had a solid, but efficient line and the Bobcats were never able to make a run as the Lakers controlled the game throughout.

Facing elimination at home in game 5, everybody is going to need to step up for the Bobcats. The man they'll need to stop is likely Finals MVP Kobe Bryant, who is averaging 25.8 points per game in this series.

LAL 21 25 27 33 | 106 - Bryant: 19 pts, 6 rebs; Bynum: 12 pts, 10 rebs; I. Thomas: 12 pts, 8 asts
CHA 17 22 24 34 | 97 - Deng: 16 pts, 9 rebs; Love: 16 pts, 13 rebs, 5-17 FG; Bargnani: 20 pts, 3 rebs

Lakers lead series 3-1

Now down 3 games to 1, can the Bobcats be the first team to dig themselves out of such a hole in the NBA Finals? They did come back from down 3-1 against Brooklyn, but this is Kobe and the Lakers. Stay tuned to find out.
