There shouldn't be any discussion of this at all after Team USA scored only 80 points. I know it's just the first game. Maybe when it is all said and done we can really make a comparison. The Dream Team was destroying opponents, taking pictures with them and signing autographs for them before the games. The games were a formality for the '92 team. So, let's just see how well this team actually does.

'Only' 80 points? That's actually fairly high.

The rest of the world's come a fair way in the past 20 years, too.

Current DPOY vs College beast. Which beastly college kid do you think will own Chandler in today's world?

Just looking at the 92 Draft class that young center from Louisiana State University can own the DPOY Tyson Chandler of today.
That young center from Georgetown in the same draft class can also give current Tyson Chandler some challenge. College boy can defend and can score too, also has good range in his jumper.

I think it would be an interesting game, if nothing else. I think it comes down to matchups. Both teams would shorten their benches. I think 2012 is a better team defensively on the perimeter & would assume Dream Team better interior defenders.

In the end, I'd take Dream Team due to them having Admiral, Ewing, Barkley & Malone. I just don't think 2012 could match up to that. 2012 would play with a smaller, quicker lineup, likely Lebron, Durant, Paul/Deron, Westbrook & Chandler/Love. Whilst 2012 would try & pressure & speed up game, with Dream Team having very experienced guards, they'd slow it up & get their bigs going & wear down 2012 team.

I'd take Dream Team by 8 points. If 2012 squad had healthy Dwight, Bosh & Wade instead of Davis, Iggy & Harden then it would be even closer call, maybe a few points in it.

International basketball is a lot better these days. You see that when people call a 40 point win over Great Britain being a thumping. Great Britain is a second tier European team, which is only at Olympics because they're hosts. Even if they're a medicore team, they've still got a good NBA player in Deng, a young player coming into NBA (Freeland) & a few others who had brief stints in the NBA. That means they're relatively deeper than probably half of Dream Team's opponents.

No way Dream Team would've abused them since 2012 team play smaller, quicker, more defensive lineup. Yeah, Dream Team beats them by single digits, but it's by no means a given.

Granted, but I'd also disagree with the notion that the 2012 team winning is a given. Hence my seconding of SteveHTOWN's "no way". ;)

"Abusing" may be a little too harsh but I think the Dream Team would win. ;) It could be a close one but in the end they'd come out winning.
So, I'll take back "abusing" but stand to my "No way!" :D

How do you pressure magic Johnson? The dream team would just as much want to run, if not more then this current team.... Especially with the advantage on the boards

David Robinson can run, so can Barkley and Malone in their youth.

Was expecting to find pre-Dream Team clips but these post-Dream Team clips will do.

Showerfun. There I said it.

This is one of the most interesting aspects of this discussion. Magic's size creates a matchup problem for today's PGs. I'd put a guy like LBJ (speed & strenght) or KD (size & wingspan) against him.

lol KD playing defense. LeBron can probably put some pressure, like what Pippen did to Magic in the 91 Finals.
But using LeBron to defend Magic would take out 2012 team's best perimeter defender, leaving that Jordan guy to do his thing.

Individually, what those 92 players did was monstrous and legendary. Possibly the best players ever positionally at PG, SG, and C. Rest of players also rank really high in all time list. Sick. What Team 2012 has is best SF, and the most prolific off-the-ball player, plus great players in today's standard. Would be a no match in this regard. 92 team was built truly with the best players in their era and also historically. But if any, today's team also deserves some credits as they consist of 3 of the best players in today's era(Bron, Durant, Paul) plus historical efficiency monster Chandler, and couple other great players. If the match happened in 7 game series, I don't think it'd be a sweep but the Dream team in 5 or 6.
