Cavs Look Great In First Game

OCTOBER 29, CLEVELAND – The Cleveland Cavaliers started the 2013-14 season with a resounding 110-91 home win against their Eastern Conference Finals foes Milwaukee Bucks. Lebron James led the Cavs with 28 points and 12 rebounds. Rudy Gay added 26 points and Mo Williams proved that he was the right choice to start for the team as he put up 18 points and 10 assists.

New additions Terrell Hicks, Raymond Felton and Byron Brock provided reason for Cavs fans to be excited with the team’s new depth. Hicks scored 10 points, Felton had 8 and Brock finished with 8 points and 11 rebounds. Joakim Noah also scored 11 for the NBA finalists looking to mount a challenge for the Kings’ NBA title.

Jay Gray was held to 11 points on 4 for 11 shooting from the field and grabbed 13 rebounds. Liam Washburn continued his bad form from Summer League and Preseason games with 5 points on 1 for 8 shooting. Mike Conley led the Bucks with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

Lakers, Knicks Win At Home

OCTOBER 29, LOS ANGELES – The Lakers and Knicks opened their seasons with wins on their respective home courts. Kobe Bryant led LA with 23 points and newly acquired Trevor Ariza added 19 to help the Lakers to a 99-84 win against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Pau Gasol scored 15 points and 8 rebounds while friend and fellow Spaniard Jose Calderon finished with 8 points and 7 assists in his Lakers debut.

Mike Bibby led the Wolves with 16 points on a night where Kevin Martin and Janis Kalnins both struggled. Martin had 14 points and 10 rebounds but on 5 for 21 shooting from the field. Kalnins scored 12 on 5 for 15 shooting from the field. Manfred Nissley opened the season with an encouraging 15 points and 6 assists.

In the third game of opening night, Ron Artest scored 16 points and Lamar Odom had a near triple double (15 points, 12 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 steals) to lead the Knicks to a close 98-93 win against the Chicago Bulls. Travis Ward finished with 14 points and 7 assists. The Bulls’ own young centre Roy Harmon matched Ward with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Eric Smith made his first NBA start with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks. Derrick Rose finished with 13 points and 3 assists.

Latest: Iverson Will Play Against Sixers

OCTOBER 29, SEATTLEAllen Iverson and the Seattle Stealth have confirmed that the veteran will play against the team that drafted him in 1996 with the first overall pick. Iverson enjoyed a distinguished career in Philadelphia before making stops in Denver, Detroit, New York and now Seattle. Iverson has been slowly recovering from a strained hamstring injury but will take to the court for the Stealth’s opening match.

“There’s no way I would miss this game,” Iverson informed media. Sixers’ star Andre Iguodala was looking forward to the match up, “A Philly game against Allen Iverson without AI wouldn’t be right.”

Bad Luck For Magic Strikes Again

OCTOBER 30, ORLANDO – With Jameer Nelson out for 2 weeks with a severe ankle sprain, Orlando started backup Corey Brady in his place. A few minutes into the new season against the Washington Wizards, the 4 year pro tore his ACL and Orlando are already without one quality role player for the rest of the season.

An inconsolable Brady was taken to the hospital for further tests as the Magic confirmed that the PG from Ohio State and the Magic’s 17th pick of the 2010 Draft will need to watch his teammates from the sideline. It is understandably a terrible setback for the 24 year old Bradley who has looked threatening to Nelson’s starting spot. He averaged 6.4 ppg, 2.2 rpg, 6.0 apg in 25.4 mpg last season. The season before that he averaged 7.7 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 5.2 apg in 22.9 mpg.

Newly signed swingman Gerald Wallace talked about the sadness in the locker room after seeing Brady get hurt in the season opener, “We (the team) were all talking about how great of a squad we had. It’s tough to lose a piece of the puzzle already and for the whole season.” Wallace finished with 15 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists in the Magic’s 106-94 win against Washington. Dwight Howard led the Magic with 26 points and 15 rebounds.

I can't wait for the Stealth/Sixer game. Willie's debut.

The Cavs are awesome, The Lakers are still good, the Knicks are back, and the Magic are screwed.

Seattle Starts Season In Style
Philadelphia 76ers at Seattle Stealth: 85-105
Preview | Boxscore | Recap | Highlights

October 31, SEATTLE (AP) – Kevin Durant started the 2013-14 NBA season in top form with 26 points and a win to boot. The Stealth lost a heartbreaking 7 game series to the eventual NBA champion Sacramento Kings and after months of soul searching, Durant has returned with a desire to capture an MVP crown as well as an NBA title.

And after Game 1, it would appear that he is surely on the right track.

“Kevin looks like he is in top shape,” Jason Kidd stated, “He did everything right tonight. He makes the game a lot easier to play. I have not seen him this good in a long time.” Kidd was great in his own right as he racked up 18 assists to start his incredible 21st NBA season.

After a close first quarter, Seattle toyed with the Sixers for the rest of the night. Part of that was thanks to big Aussie Andrew Bogut who took advantage of the Sixers’ frail frontcourt as he notched a double double of 32 points and 11 rebounds. “It was a great way to start the season,” Coach George Karl said, “What a statement!”

Philadelphia struggled in the season opener without three starters from last season who signed elsewhere after last season’s successful run to the NBA postseason. Andre Iguodala led the visiting team with 19 points. The Sixers were sorely lacking in the low block and clearly missing the contributions of former Sixers big men Byron Brock and Elton Brand.

Notes: Adam Morrison scored 9 points in his first game back with Seattle. He was greeted with loud cheers from the Stealth crowd; confirmation that he is still a fan favourite… Allen Iverson, playing with a strained hamstring, scored 7 points on 3 for 9 shooting against his former team… Byron Brock plays for Cleveland and Elton Brand plays for Washington…

Not saying. Not many of the rookies have broken into team rotations. Dare is relegated to sixth man and it appears only Coby Clark is a starter.

You all didn't believe the scouts/GMS that this was a piss weak draft class!

Must Disappoints But Teammates Do Not

OCTOBER 30, PHOENIX – Prized signing Martti Must needs to take his words back after his teammates bailed him out of a terrible shooting night. Must was harassed and clearly out of his comfort zone as his former teammates from the Memphis Grizzlies outmuscled him and did not give him much room to breathe on the offensive end.

Must shot 4 for 11 from the field and although he ended with a final box score of 12 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 blocks and 2 steals; he looked far from impressive. Luckily, the teammates he had labeled as incapable of playing at a high enough level to compete for a playoff berth were the teammates that carried him through the first game of his Phoenix career.

Leandro Barbosa, who scored 32 points that included 5 three pointers, boasted after the game, “What did Martti say about us not being good enough? He wasn’t good enough tonight.” Baron Davis scored 21 points, Jason Richardson added 16 and Kevin Love had 16 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists. Even Must’s backup Darnell Love outshone him as Love gathered 15 points from off the bench.

“We are a team,” All-Star PG Davis said after the game, “Martti has got to know that he’s got to have our backs. We had his tonight and I hope that from now on, he respects all of us.”

Must was lucky that his teammates stood up for him in a fiery reunion with his former team. The Grizzlies were gunning hard for a win in Phoenix. OJ Mayo put in a spirited effort by leading Memphis with 37 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals. The player that many have called the biggest benefactor from Must’s defection looked like a superstar for the first time since his rookie year.

“This season is going to establish him (Mayo) as a true NBA star,” Head Coach Gary Payton stated, “OJ has the green light to do it all. He has the skills and drive to make it (to the All-Star Game).” TJ Ford finished with 20 points and 8 assists. Caron Butler scored 18 and Must’s replacement Andray Blatche was solid with 15 points, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 steals in his Grizzlies regular season debut.
