Re: The Knicks Thread....

The Knicks have bungled the situation and Marbury has a point but his latest comments are still eyebrow-raising. He can claim his teammates turned their backs on him but to me, it seems like karma. He's skipped games, sulked because he didn't get the starting nod and gone into business for himself time and time again. And now, he's saying he's been disrespected and stabbed in the back. Seems to me like a case of what goes around comes around.

The weirdest thing is people are actually standing up for him, blasting the Knicks and saying that he deserves a lot better than this. A year ago, the general attitude towards him was very different. I guess in the current scenario he's the little guy taking on big business entity and appears as a more sympathetic party being the underdog but still, his own actions have led to this, especially the situation with his teammates. Perhaps if he didn't alienate them (as it would seem he has), they would have stuck up for him.

I'm no fan of Marbury, but I'd do the same thing, Andrew. Whatever his motives, he came to camp in shape, played well then D'Antoni says we don't want you. One month later, when he's short-handed, he has the cajones to say to Steph, now we need you. WTF? You want me to bust my ass for you after telling me I'm not in your plans? What kind of sh!t is that? And I wouldn't accept a buyout, either. Dolan was dumb enough to sign off on that contract, so I'd tell him f-ck you, pay me. That's business.

It's obvious Dolan, Walsh & DAntoni weren't on the same page, and it's turned into another embarrassment for the Knicks and the league. Stern's probably saying to himself, "not again"!

as I see it.
He want´s to get the money. The Knicks give him money for his ability to play ball. So if they want him to sit he has to do it and if they want him to play he has to play. It´s a business, so either cancel your contract or do your job as requested.

i Can see this going for 1 or 2 more weeks.

True Andrew. But I don't understand D'Antoni. He is paying Marbury 22mil and is asking him to play. Damn man you don't ask, you order. Trade him or straighten things up with him, this ain't good for Knicks, they are really playing better this season and Marbury CAN contribute.

Re: The Knicks Thread....

Wed Dec 03, 2008 8:49 pm

Imho, contract is a still a contract. Pay 22 mil and work him. As much as Marbury has his faults, so does the Knicks. Knicks obviously have embarrased Marbury, messing with his ego. When an organization doesn't respect a player, a player can do whatever they want. It's not like Marbury was being Raptor-Vince Carter, but Marbury was just being Marbury and it seemed like the Knicks have decided to blame him of team having a retarded season. Well, I am not siding Marbury but imo he has all the rights in the world to do what he is doing as long as it's not against the terms in the contract. Alan Houston also was blamed if I'm correct.

I was at the game last night. Knicks did their best, but the Blazers wore them down in the fourth. Knicks are too small and undermanned. Brandon Roy is a beast, and this Fernandez kid was on fire.

I agree, the organisation must share the blame but I think it's a bit of a joke the way Marbury is lashing out at his teammates for not coming to his aid. After all, when has he stood up for any of his teammates? He's complaining that his teammates aren't campaigning for him, but he hasn't said a thing about Eddy Curry being out of the rotation. Marbury can opine that his teammates stabbed him in the back as much as he likes but I have to believe he brought that on himself. He can't alienate people (as he seems to have done in New York) and then complain when they don't get behind him.

That's what a lot of people have been saying but to me that's just semantics. When your boss asks you to do something, an instruction is implied. It's not so much a request as a veiled order.

Wel, that's Stephon's biggest flaw, Andrew. It's everybody's fault but his. He hasn't figured out why teams eventually tire of his ass. He's always alienated his teammates. Remember when Kurt Thomas wanted to f-ck him up? But at the time, Marbury had the keys to the franchise(thanks to Zeke), and Kurt was shipped out.

This is the same cat who couldn't play with Kevin Garnett. That's all you need to know.

Re: The Knicks Thread....

Marbury is an arrogant, presumptuous son of a bitch. Let him rot on the bench, then when the contract's done, release him. That's what he deserves for being so damn proud of his douchebag actions.

People saying the Knicks organization doesn't respect him are morons. The Knicks gave him more than enough chances to demonstrate what he can contribute to the team, but of course he couldn't work with MJ or Magic or Chamberlain if such opportunity was given to him so I find what went around is finally coming around, as Andrew mentioned.

Re: The Knicks Thread....

I have heard that Marbury wants to go to Italy. He definetly would be the star and in a role he likes to be, that might make a buyout easier if he decides to go this season. Do you think that will happen?

Re: The Knicks Thread....

Sat Dec 06, 2008 9:13 am

It may well be his only option. If he ends up getting waived before the season is over (seeing as though he's apparently not willing to be bought out anymore) then maybe he might get a short run with someone else but I could see him cut a few games in, much like Isaiah Rider was during his final run in the NBA with the Nuggets. From there, it might be that no one in the NBA has any interest leaving him to look towards Europe.

Knicks Almost Traded Lee To Nuggets

The Knicks and Nuggets had serious enough discussions about a David Lee-for-Linas Kleiza trade earlier this month that Lee got word something was possible.

Denver coach George Karl reportedly persuaded Nuggets' management to hang on to Kleiza because of his versatility.

Both Kleiza and Lee will be restricted free agents this summer.

I'm surprised the Knicks would have seriously considered that. Kleiza's a pretty solid player but Lee has seemingly been untouchable in other trade discussions that have reportedly gone down.

Re: The Knicks Thread....

Tue Dec 30, 2008 9:01 pm

Just like many, I thought David Lee was a lock for the Knicks. Even if he was to be traded, Kleiza isn't someone in Lee's class in terms of potential talent. Funny the talk actually was even considered.

Re: The Knicks Thread....

Wed Dec 31, 2008 1:11 pm

Exactly. I'm sure if the Knicks were in a position to get a superstar right now and it would take Lee to land them they'd strongly consider it but I wouldn't have thought they'd have any interest in exchanging him for Kleiza.

Re: The Knicks Thread....

Wed Dec 31, 2008 1:47 pm

I guess it indicates that the Knicks have no intentions of locking Lee up long term....that's what I take from it....Kleiza would work in D'Antoni's system, although I'd still prefer Lee....

It's been an interesting season for the Knicks.. I find it funny no Curry, No Marbury, no problem! This new coach has them playing with heart rather than what they owed money wise. Defense is still lacking, but they are playing much better overall than the last couple depressing seasons. With the squad they have, you'd think they would bottom, but they doing pretty good for what they have.

Re: The Knicks Thread....

Fri Jan 09, 2009 9:08 pm

Lee is my favourite player and he is a great rebounder. He must not be traded. :(

Wow, guess what. Eddie Curry saw 2 minutes of action and scored two points along with 2 rebounds. Yeah! 2 minutes, 2 rebounds, that's just fantastic. Normally, it takes him 20 minutes to grab those two boards.

And what about Nate? 3-30 from 3pt range over the last five games. Damn, he is struggeling. (N)

Re: The Knicks Thread....

Fri Jan 09, 2009 9:46 pm

At this point, it wouldn't surprise me if he plays a bit to get his trade value up so that they can try and ship him out for some expiring contracts. That way they can re-sign Lee without eating too much into the cap space they're set to have next year.

Re: The Knicks Thread....

Wed Jan 14, 2009 8:20 pm

I expect there might still be some interest in him around the deadline. He's got tremendous size and he's played well enough in past seasons for teams to take a chance on him at least being a solid centre in the right situation. If all they get for him are expiring contracts then that's still a fine deal for the Knicks, given his reduced role with the team and their current approach to rebuilding.
