only thing that stops me from saying yes is the 8600GS

anyhow, i tried almost everything

1. logged off xfire
2. disabled antivirus
3. played in compatibility mode (XP sp2)
4. tried the "reloaded" version

but game still crashes (randomly happens on my association games..no slowdown whatsoever, just kicks me to desktop)

my last trial though is by playing offline from steam then play in compatibility mode...lets see what happens..so far I played 3 games without a crash

edit:

naaah even running on offline steam and in safe mode results in crash :(

Try this it might solve your problem try right clicking on the exe of nba2k9 then go to properties then go to compatibility then set it to Run this program in compatibility mode for : Windows xp SP2

Re: 64-bit Vista

i already did :( Im also playing on offline and safe mode

one last thing i tried (have to see if it works though) is to check the "disable desktop composition" as checking on event manager, its one of the issues that are logged

AFAIK it turns Aero off..will have to see though..its annoying considering im running my other games (crysis, crysis warhead, farcry2 and grid without crashes)

maybe its an nVIDIA driver thing? i dont know

one thing i noticed though, when playing in safe mode, my eVGA OSD for monitoring GPU temps and fps doesnt show..as if telling me the game isnt running on Direct3d..so what is safe mode btw?

edit#1
sigh

safe mode+compatibilty mode+offline still crash without warning :( this is really frustrating...ill try to run my PC on stock settings and see if it helps

edit #2

running my processor+memory on stock settings dont help either :(

one more try..

went back to 3.6Ghz for my e8400 then uninstalled my videocard driver, physx driver and HD audio driver and installed newer ones
I also disabled the physx option in my nVIDIA driver (thinking it could conflict with the game's physics engine)

turned of Anisotropic FIltering from nVIDIA driver (this sucks as i really like setting AF to 16x)

well last game didnt crash, i dunno about the next games (like I said, the games crash ever so randomly that its hard to pinpoint whats causing the problem :()

Okay so the last game didn't crash?

Man I hope it's not the 64-bit's fault :(

Did you buy GTA IV yet? If so, did it work for your 64-bit vista?

PS: Why don't you download the demo version of the game to your 64-bit vista and see if it crashes?

Merry Christmas!

Re: 64-bit Vista

Thu Dec 25, 2008 4:59 pm

i dont have GTA IV

demo version of what? NBA 2k9, you see the first time I installed the game was from my DVD then got irritated because of the crashes and removed the game but since its tied to my steam account, Steam let me install via steam (so steam version) but the problem is still there :(

ill test with this disabling the physx option on my video card control panel

edit:

3 games so far without a crash :) i hope i nailed it (physx being the problem and not AF)

current settings

all maxed out but w/o anisotropic filtering applied
physx disabled on nvidia control panel

theres this guy at 2k forums having same problems with me and hes using a GTX 260 too
