Nathan Jawai cleared for workouts

Probably not of great interest to a lot of people, but being Australian I'm keen to see another Aussie in the NBA.

Raptors’ Jawai cleared to begin workouts

Raptors rookie forward Nathan Jawai, sidelined since training camp because of an unidentified heart abnormality, has been cleared to begin workouts.

“It’s going to be a little bit of time before he’s in any kind of shape to play but at least we can start working with him and hopefully get him ready to help out some time in the New Year,” coach Jay Triano said Wednesday.

Jawai was cleared to begin workouts after a medical visit on Tuesday, is expected to need a month of workouts before he’s ready to play.

I don't think he'll reach the same kind of production he did in the NBL least of all in his first year, but having gotten past these initial health issues, hopefully he'll have an opportunity to play some significant minutes one day and make the most of it.

that's good news, I've been keen to see him play because I too am hoping another Australian will make it in the NBA, with all the bloody turmoil going on with the NBL (eg: my the the Brisbane Bullets becoming defunct!). For some reason though, I see weight being a possible issue for him later on in his career. I really hope that he doesn't become another Tractor Traylor

I want to see him sent to the D-League where he can rip it up and then step on the NBA floor

D-League wouldn't be a bad idea at this point to help him get in shape and further prepare for the NBA game.

True, if he works hard and gets in shape it would seem he'll get his opportunity.

Toronto will needs an inside presence, but Raptors personnel seem to have downs so they'll probably find a way to utilize him improperly like they do with every other player.

My Aunty works at the high school in Bamiga and I found out that she actually taught Nathan Jawai. I never have anything to talk about with her but I remembered that she worked there and that's where he was from.
