CPU taking too many 3pt in Superstar

Postby babouisi on Tue Nov 25, 2003 6:47 pm

Hi all. I noticed CPU is taking WAY too many 3pt shots in superstar mode. Last three games I played (against SA, IND and LAC) they had 25+ each game. Against Indiana Pacers, Ron Artest went 3-for-17.

I've tested some types of defense, but they always find a way to shot the three-pointer, even double-teamed. Many of the shots are totally nonsense.

CPU Long range % is set to 35, medium range to 45 and short range to 40, although I've tested some combos on it with no results.

Games played in superstar are challenging, but this absurd 3pointer-mania is frustrating me. Any solutions for it?

Try play the game using "half court trap" defense.....
CPU atacks the key....no more 8358353 3 pts shots (y) (y)

i have the same problem, I dont mind them shooting 25 threes, its a tad high, but whenever I play the lakers they shoot 50+ and I just own them badly because devean george sucks yet he shoots 25 threes!

I dont want to play a trapping D either...does going to all star change this?

Setting half court trap defense as the default defense doesn't help much, the CPU still bomb me. And if I do it they run too many fastbreaks like superspeed powered-up.

I have to try that but not doubleteam.

I honestly don't understand everyone's infatuation with superstar level. Folks, the game is not designed to be accurate at this level in regards to player ratings and gameplay. It's designed to give the MOST challenge, but that also means that the internal player ratings have been inflated to allow for this. Unfortunately, in Live2k4, this also means the absence of logical plays involving the cpu. On superstar, have you noticed that the cpu will always insist on driving the lane with a jump shooter even if you decide to purposely leave said jump shooter open for the J? It's either that or the cpu will foolishly take 3 pointers all day!! Pick your poison....or maybe not!

The above are just a few examples to demonstrate that superstar level, at least this year, is not designed to accurately replicate the game, at least on the court. Your stats might look fine, but when you look to the scoring chart you don't see much semblance to the real game, granted the Nba is transforming as of late, but I can assure you that it's not THIS bad!

There are other issues which ail the game at this level as others have mentioned, I don't feel the need to re-address them. If you want all out competition without much thought to how the game is played on the court, then by all means opt for the superstar level of play, however if you feel you want a fair balance and reasonable representation of Nba basketball, stick with either starter or all-star, the latter for a more competitive but realistic game! The player ratings at these levels are more accurate and you'll see more realistic things happening here. Just remember that you can always adjust different sliders such as cpu fg%, cpu on ball defense, or lessen use fg% or on ball defense. All-star can be just as challenging with the right combination, not to mention more satisfying!

I agree with you, Calvenn.

I always played Live series in superstar mode, but this year I started with allstar (dunno why) and I'm plenty satisfied with the realism achieved. I've tested superstar just to see if it is more challenging/realistic. As I found it wasn't, I made my complaints.

Now I've reverted to the allstar mode, which is much more REALISTIC (which is the most important thing to me) and challenging enough (tell it to my Nuggets dynasty  ) with the correct sliders.

Yes, I also feel that all-star is a much better representation. There are so many ways you can up the challenge on this level so there's no question I'll be on all-star for quite some time :D

for me i have to play superstar level, all star is no challenge and even superstar for me is getting to be to easy the last 6 games i have won by an average of 40 points on 12 minute quarters with andrews slider settings. i am thinking of changing the sliders to make it harder.

Maybe a little off-topic, but these are my current sliders, with some comments about my testing. All-Star level, 8 min-qtr.

Global Sliders:
Game Speed: 45
Free Throw Difficulty: 90 (I still get around 80% FT, thinking on going directly to 100)
Boundary Force Field: 60
Injury Freq: 50
Fatigue Effect: 50
Charge/Block Freq: 30
Shooting Foul Freq: 70
Reach-In Foul Freq: 70
In-Air Collision Foul Freq: 100 (these foul sliders are the key for make the CPU go to the line; I'm getting excellent results with them).

User:
Steal Ability: 40
Interception Ability: 50
Shot Blocking: 10
Dunk/Layup Blocking: 15
User Freestyle: 50
Dunk vs Layup Freq: 50
Substitution: 0 for no auto subs, 50 for auto subs (I use 0)
On-Ball Assist: 70 (now testing lower values, but seems the CPU misses more shots if set higher, though)
Offensive Rebounds: 90 (although it doesn't help)
Defensive Rebounds: 20
Fake Out Discipline: 100
Short Range %: 35
Medium Range %: 45
Long Range %: 45 (with these shot sliders I get 40-45%FG, 30-40% 3pt).
Dunk %: 50
Layup %: 50
Adjusted Shot %: 0 (now testing it. Someone said to set it to 0)
On-Ball Physical Defense: 60
Poor Release %: 30 (If set higher, you'll get more and1)
Double Team: 30

CPU:
Steal Ability: 45
Interception Ability: 45
Shot Blocking: 10
Dunk/Layup Blocking: 15
User Freestyle: 50
Dunk vs Layup Freq: 50
Substitution: 60
On-Ball Assist: 70 (maybe it should be a bit higher)
Offensive Rebounds: 90 (it doesn't help)
Defensive Rebounds: 20
Fake Out Discipline: 75
Short Range %: 35
Medium Range %: 45
Long Range %: 40 (CPU still gets 50%+ FG. Maybe Adjusted Shot has to be accurated)
Dunk %: 50
Layup %: 50
Adjusted Shot %: 60 (testing higher values; seems the CPU missed more shots when is higher)
On-Ball Physical Defense: 60
Poor Release %: 30
Double Team: 30

I'm playing 3-4 games every day with the same sliders, then analyze stats before changing any of the values.

Forgot to mention I'm scoring a variety of points, depending of the game tempo and the shooting% I get. My scores go from 79 to 100 so far.

I don't recall seeing on-ball assist for the CPU, are you sure about this option? I tell you what, your sliders look very similar to mine. I'm using Pared's sliders as a base point and making adjustments as I see fit. User on ball assist seems to lessen cpu fastbreaks and also forces the cpu to take more jumpshots from my observation (all-star). From what I've gathered it provides assistance on defense to prevent the cpu from taking it to the basket with ease.

For sure, on-ball assists provides a better defense. It could be related to the defenders going for a double pressure when the attacker empties his dribbling, so it results in a higher chance of stealing.

I've tested setting the user slider to 0 and the CPU drives-in easily and score better within the paint. I'll test a high value (90) today, for both CPU and User. I think it is one of the key sliders to improve difficulty: If set higher for the CPU the gameplay would be harder.
