Getting a proper "roll" when running a pick and roll on PC

Sun Dec 07, 2008 9:24 pm

Basically, I love the pick and roll and I've used it constantly in just about every basketball game made (apart from PC Live 07 and 08 where the AI didn't know how to set a proper screen, and last-gen NBA 2K games where it was "OP".)

I like the fact that you can call for a quick pick and roll, but my problem is that too often, the guy who sets the screen doesn't cut to the basket like he should, instead, he just hangs around the place where he sets the screen, as if the entire play is just a pick. He doesn't even move away to potentially receive the ball and get an open jumper (like Dirk Nowitzki does).

Is there anyway I can control pick and rolls so that the screen-setter can either move towards the basket or double back?

I'm not sure. With the quick pick and roll on the 360, which is just the B button, you can get a player to pick and pop by holding down the left trigger while pressing B. Also, you can call a slip screen by just tapping B.

On the PC version, they usually do what I want them to. If I get a jumpshooter setting the pic, he will just stay there and I can use lead passing to back him up to the 3 point line or in another direction for a jumper. When I use my PF/C, they almost always go to the basket after the pic. Maybe holding down the button or tapping it or using turbo makes a difference. There is nothing in the manual about it.

I don't know. It seems completely random to me, sometimes I get the roll from my big man and other times I don't. I ran a few pick-and-rolls with Jason Kidd and Josh Howard and they seemed mixed as well.

Thats also sort of the same when running a SF or SG backdoor. Or maybe its just how I play. They start to cut but when I pass them the ball they stop, and it ruins the play.

They rarely stop when I pass. I use icon passing while using the left stick to lead pass.
