NBA 2K9 - Performance Textures Beta

Fri Nov 07, 2008 5:01 am

Hi everybody.

For mid-level computers, i just tried something different. I reduced some texture sizes from 1024 and 512 to 256 and 128 and realized that i gained some more performance. The only seems like the crowd wears too much white colors because of low detailed clothes. But better than nothing of course.

I tried this on 76ers just for now. This is only a test. I mean, if everybody gains good amount of performance, we can continue to make this patch.

Here, try and see yourself. Read the readme file carefully and don't forget to choose 76ers as the home team.

Good luck. :wink:

Screens please :roll: ;)

Fri Nov 07, 2008 9:59 am

This is obvious, no? You're loading textures a quarter of their original size.

Fri Nov 07, 2008 10:35 am

In fact it's not obvious on graphics. But it really affects frame rates in a positive way.
I don't know why but the all crowd wears white and black(i mean dark colors). But because the crowd is all 3D in NBA 2K9, it isn't a problem at all. Still looks good and better than pixellated low detail crowd and better than nothing.

You did not understand. If you're loading textures a quarter of their size, you are loading files into memory a quarter of their size, lowering the performance requirements.

Fri Nov 07, 2008 10:48 am

Ah yeah. I hear you. You mean it is obvious that this increases performance. Right?

Sorry for my English. :)

For screen wanters, here it is:

:!: Please remember: This doesn't mean that the game runs continously at 40FPS. This screen is just an example. You will clearly see the performance increase.

wats ur spec and wats tha highest fps u can get wit this performance textures.

Fri Nov 07, 2008 11:58 am

I don't know what is the highest fps, but the game runs really smooth.
To get the maximum fluidity and responsiveness, i decreased the resolution to 800*600, texture size to half, and not using D3Doverrider now, cuz 2K Cam doesn't show trearing effects.

Here are my settings:
Code:
VIDEOSETTING_ADAPTERINDEX = 0
VIDEOSETTING_WIDTH = 800
VIDEOSETTING_HEIGHT = 600
VIDEOSETTING_COLORDEPTH = 32

well here's my spec. tha highet fps i can get is 30 until i get myself a new video card. how much fps u think i can gain by using ur method?

Unfortunately looks like there is nothing to do for you. OC the GPU a little bit. You can gain some performance that way. Mine is also OCed at 600/1600 which stock values are 540/1400.
You can also gain a lot of performance by upgrading your GPU to a higher level. I mean, go get a 7600 and see the difference. It will be cost not much over your 7300.

Fri Nov 07, 2008 8:22 pm

lol u kiddin? im plannin to get 9600 gt or better so then can play on max out setting ;)

Sat Nov 08, 2008 3:22 am

Good for you. ;)

But let's get back to the subject. Did you see any performance difference between original textures and my performance textures?

Sat Nov 08, 2008 3:55 am

sorry i havent try it yet. ima try now and will post results.

Sat Nov 08, 2008 5:12 am

Thanks. Waiting for it.

Sat Nov 08, 2008 8:22 am

dam electricity got shut off for few hours. sorry fo delay.

Sat Nov 08, 2008 9:37 am

Lol. Enjoy the darkness and play Dead Space. 8-)

Sat Nov 08, 2008 9:49 am

u gonna need another tester. cuz if i use texmod it uses up my ram. so performance texture is no good fo me.

Sat Nov 08, 2008 12:14 pm

Allright...allright...

In fact my computer runs the game very well. But i tried to make this patch for others who struggle getting some performance. But it's very surprising that there is no feedback. :roll:

Sun Nov 09, 2008 2:01 am

Well I tried and to be honest I´ve only gained 1FPS. But my rig is not that good, playing at minimum 30FPS without v-sync and res 864x480 (playing in a laptop with a jerky gfx :cry:).
Nice effort though, take care. (Y)
