God I hope they show the Blazers and Spurs. Duncan vs Oden
Mon Oct 27, 2008 4:01 pm
If I had my way, they'd show the whole doubleheader. Probably asking a bit much.
My November Foxtel magazine arrived today and it appears as though there will be no games on Fox Sports this year.

Two games a week is still better than nothing but I greedily would have preferred to have the four and the Fox Sports games ensured a little more variety.

Ten's tilt at 24-hour sports channel
A 24-HOUR sports channel to be launched next year on free-to-air television will revolutionise the Australian broadcasting landscape.
The Ten Network is set to next month lay down the gauntlet to Fox Sports and its free-to-air rivals when it unveils that its high-definition channel will televise Australian and international sport 24 hours a day.
Not only has Ten just outbid Nine to win the television rights to Australian swimming, but among the network's new trump cards are the US NBA basketball, the US Major League baseball. Ten also holds the rights to the US Open golf and tennis championships and the US Masters golf.
In a further blow to pay television, the free-to-air body Free TV is scheduled to later this week announce "Free View", a free-to-air electronic program guide showing all schedules on all five channels, including high-definition, in the manner of the Foxtel guide, which operates from a set-top box for pay TV subscribers.

heard this on the radio this morning... sounds awesome!

Sounds awesome indeed. At this point I wouldn't ditch Foxtel for it but that's fantastic news.

Could be why theres nothing on Fox sports too... 10 bought the rights to it.
Id be interested in more info about it, if anyone has it... but it seems like theyre keeping it underwraps for the time being. Not sure why...

You're probably right. The question is, would they ape Fox Sports and show the NBA games live and provide replays for those who miss the live broadcast? Presumably they would but being just one 24 hour sports channel (as opposed to three) they might give preference to Australian sports.

I'd say they'll show them Live, because it's the middle of the day and there shouldn't be anything big on at the same time slot and because it's a 24 hour channel, there's bound to be replays, which is where Foxtel IQ comes in handy. Also watching the NBA in 1080p should be amazing

I assume with new and better home entertainment technology. April 2009 is still a fair way away yet which is plenty of time to put money aside.

Excellent news from Ten, Channel ONE is it?
Hoping for a few more double headers this year, they really cut back on them last year.
Sat Nov 01, 2008 3:31 pm
I'm not too optimistic about that.

Does Stuart Scott of the Half-time report have a glass eye or a lazy eye? I can't work it out. His eyes are both different colours which makes me think it's a glass eye.

DW Andrew found this article, which says that the old Ten HD channel will be replaced by a SD version of the channel. So there'll be 10, One and One HD... Also says that it'll be 3 Live games a week...

There's nothing about that article i didnt like. Three live games a week! Spooged again. HDTV seems to make me do that a lot.
And about Stuart Scott, i couldnt tell you a single word that guy said today. I'm too transfixed on his eyeballs.

Agreed, the only thing to dislike is the wait.

although, April means just one thing to me, playoffs
although sadly, I won't get to see any College Hoops this season
Sun Nov 02, 2008 1:35 pm
True, and considering ESPN Australia's history of disappointing coverage of the Playoffs, three extra live games per week during the postseason is very appealing.
Sun Nov 02, 2008 5:12 pm
I hope One gets exclusive coverage of spelling bees
Sun Nov 02, 2008 11:09 pm
Not on that list, sadly.

Andrew wrote:Not on that list, sadly.
No because it's a given that if there's a 24 hour sport channel, there's gonna be spelling bee's, so i wouldnt worry, i'd say where in good hands
Mon Nov 03, 2008 7:40 pm
You're right, I was in a panic for a moment there.
All jokes and shots at spelling bee coverage aside, it really is fantastic news, the only downer being the wait. In the meantime, hopefully we get a good enough variety on ESPN Australia but the regular season is long enough to ensure we have a good chance of catching a couple of seldom shown teams. The Playoffs are when we really need that extra coverage, though it'll be nice in a year's time when we can have five games per week for the whole season.
Bulls/Cavs on Thursday, which I'm looking forward to (I wouldn't expect everyone to, though) and then Heat/Spurs this Saturday. I'm looking forward to seeing Beasley in action, that one should have more widespread appeal.

I was hoping for some NBA as the season started but i'll wait till April. I got rid of my foxtel, good decision considering there's no NBA on Fox this season. So that'll be about 10yrs b/w the last FTA NBA game in Aus...@least it's back.
