Damn you people who play Wii Sports and give EA a market....
I ran into EA Sports president Peter Moore at a recent game launch, and he confirmed the rumors that the NBA Street series is now officially on hiatus.
"We'll still do traditional sports, but we're going to do them a different way," he told me. "Street is a good example. We built a new Freestyle brand to do different things, and we also need to build our own intellectual properties. We rely on other people's IP for everything we do and we need to develop some new things. In the old days we had things like SSX that were our own intellectual property, but since then we've kind of moved away from that. We need a mixture of experiences that are not only for the hardcore, 'it's in the game' crowd. But if Wii Sports has taught us anything, it's that people will sit there and play big head tennis all day long. We need to be able to tap into that audience.
Fuck That Audience
We need to have something for that sports fan who might not necessarily be a sports gamer, but who wants that 15-minute experience without having to struggle on how to use the controller."
On a related note, it looks like Midway has also put a stop to any future products in the NBA Ballers franchise as, rumor has it, the struggling company is trying to buy its way out of the licensing deal it currently has with the NBA. Stay tuned.

That's a real shame. I've never been as big a fan of Street as I am of Live or even Jam back in the day but the games that I did play in the Street series were fun and kind of a throwback to Acclaim/Midway's Jam franchise.

I don't see how canceling the Street series helps them tap into that market. Just make a Street Wii version. Since that is happening, now they can incorporate Street with NBA Live, like 2K has with 24/7 in the past and Blacktop mode in the present.

I picked up NBA street homecourt not too long ago and once I got past the learning curve it was actually a fun game. It's disappointing they are putting the series on hiatus while they continue to pound resources into such shitty games like Live and Madden

More reason to hate EA then.

Not a big problem for me personally, I never liked them anyway.
Still a big bummer for those who like it.

Mind you, unless they added some big new feature to a future Street game I might think twice before buying a new one. Homecourt was great but its tournament mode is more repetitive and doesn't offer the ups and downs that games like NBA Live and NBA 2K do in their emulation of the actual NBA. That said, I'm still sorry to see them make that decision.

Funny read. I always felt that the new Wii Sports gamer will eventually turn into a hardcore gamer or a casual internet gamer who doesn't want to spend a lot of money on his or her games. Right now, Wii Sports gamers are often into the novelty effect of videogames, and Moore should bet on another horse.

Now they are using the real scouting. They are getting a lot closer to fact. Numbers don't lie.
Seems like Brandon Roy and benji can get along nicely.

I for one am seriously pissed about NBA STREET not coming out.
**looks around**
I seriously don't feel like playing FIFA & NFL Street (World Tour which still sucked).
I've been a fan of NBA Street ever since the PS2 when it came out along with SSX until they started putting it on the Wii only, and this is what we get? Fucking Wii Sports Fans slobbing all over the damn remote like it's a dildo ready to insert themselves to play tennis? Tennis???? If there was a way to make a petition on bringing back NBA Street. I'll be the first to sign that, placing SSX on other consoles, and release the damn Marvel Fight Game that EA Chicago was making until they closed it's doors.
Thank you Kudo on the hype for not putting out the Marvel Fighting Game, Thank you on not bringing out NBA Street, & plus putting SSX on the damn Wii!!!
Damn you Wii Sports lovers... Damn you.
