It's late in February and the young Blazers, joined by big man phenom Greg Oden are clinging on to the Northwest Division title with the Denver Nuggets just one game behind. With no trade deadline and very limited capspace, it truly is on the Blazers team headlined by Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge and Greg Oden.

Rookie Jerryd Bayless struggled early on in the season. He was a big turnover machine and failed to distribute the ball effectively and alternated heavily with Steve Blake for the starting job early in the season. He has since shown improvement but still shows more of a shoot first mentality.

There was no disappointment in Greg Oden. The big man averages a double double, even though he is not even close to Shaq's rookie season, he shows that he is very capable of passing the ball, averaging just over 3 assists as a Center. He has shown signs of brilliance including a spectacular 27 point, 14 rebound, 3 assist, 3 block performance against last season's best center Dwight Howard.

With the balance on the Blazers team you can really expect any of the Blazers to be dominant on a given night. With 6 players averaging double digits in scoring you can really see how well they play as a team. Brandon Roy stands out the most, as the leader of the Blazers and has proven to be the most consistent, averaging just over 20 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists in addition to 2 steals a game.

GM Kevin Pritchard was able to address the Blazers' 3 point shooting woes by bringing in sharpshooter Jason Kapono in a trade that sent Luke Jackson and Joey Przybilla to Toronto.

Several minor trades have been made in the league, with the biggest trade a swap of Ron Artest and Kevin Martin which bought Artest back to his former team. The Kings felt that they needed more perimeter defense and more of a veteran presence as they are unexpected close to making the playoffs, just a few games behind the 8th spot. The Rockets trio of Yao-McGrady-Artest did not perform as well as they expected and the Rockets are criticized for lacking any real young talent.

In the West, Dirk Nowitzki has been playing like a true MVP, leading the league in scoring and while grabbing 12 rebounds a game. His Mavericks are 3rd in the West and are not far behind last year's Finalist Lakers.

In the East, Detroit is in the lead with the James-lead Cavaliers right behind. Miami and Philadelphia are both pretty big surprises, especially Miami who was last year's worst team. The defending champions Boston Celtics seem to have fell off quite a bit, holding on to the 7th spot but they are riding a 4 game win streak so you can expect some change to come.

The MVP race is again headlined by Kobe Bryant and LeBron James with Dirk Nowitzki added to the mix. All star guards Dwyane Wade and Gilbert Arenas round out the top 5 as both show no sign of slowing down even after their injuries.

RIght now if the Blazers lose their division crown they will find themselves sitting on the 8th seed with the Artest/Miller lead Kings right behind them. The Blazers are on a 3 game losing streak with a 28-28 record and it does not help that 2 of their next 3 games will be played against the Lakers, currently the best team in the league.

Next Game - Roy, Blazers face off against Bryant and Lakers.

Image@Image

The Blazers, with Greg Oden, predicted by some experts to be the next team to be a 'dynasty' will face off against the best basketball player on the best team on the world tomorrow for the first time at one of the biggest cities in the world... It's the Portland Trail Blazers against the Los Angeles Lakers.

This has been one of the most hyped games since the schedule was released. Greg Oden will face off against Andrew Bynum for the first time, 2 of the most gifted up and coming big men. Brandon Roy, the leader of the Blazers will be pinned head to head against no one other than Kobe Bryant.

OT - I know there isn't a lot of visuals so far but I'll work on it... I swear. Right now I'm using Linux and I'm not really sure how you use GIMP so when I get back on my Windows I'll start making the visuals nicer.

Blazers Bench help complete second half rally

Image@Image

POR - 115
LAL - 107

The Blazers starting 5 were solid, but it's going to take more than that to beat the best team in the league. Led by Jason Kapono's 22 points, 15 of which came 3 pointers, the Blazers were able to hold on to a lead after making several mistakes late in the 4th quarter.

The Blazers found themselves down early which was expected. With Steve Blake out because of a sudden family emergency, the point guard load was on Jerryd Bayless. Bayless started the game off knocking down an open 3 off a kick out from Brandon Roy.

After that, he missed shot after shot until the 3rd quarter, falling under the pressure of being the facilitator. Luckily for him, Brandon Roy and Rudy Fernandez both possessed point guard skills.

"That's something we have to work on. That's why there are so few true quality point guards, especially when they are young." said coach Nate McMillan. "Jerryd isn't a true point guard, but we're working on that."

The Blazers started fighting back in the 2nd half. 4 Lakers in the starting line up combined for 93 points, but the difference was in the Blazers bench. Blazers 6th man Rudy Fernandez had 16 points and Kapono kept firing away 3s. Eventually in the 4th quarter the Lakers started to get tired and could not match the energy of the Blazers. Rudy Fernandez nailed a 3 in transition with just over 2 minutes left in the 4th to finally give them their first lead of the game since the Bayless 3 made in the opening seconds.

When the Lakers started to foul, Greg Oden calmly hit 2 free throws. He was able to secure the rebound off a Kobe Bryant miss with time winding down and was fouled again with 33.6 seconds left on the clock. He split the free throws but Jason Kapono was able to sneak in and grab the rebound. Kapono also split but with a 5 point difference the Lakers just couldn't seem to pull their act together.

"We did all we could offensively tonight. Derek, Lamar, Pau and myself all had great games." said MVP Kobe Bryant. "They [Blazers] have a great, deep team and have a very strong core."

And he was right. Greg Oden finish just 1 point and rebound short of a 20/10 and LaMarcus Aldridge had 16 points and 15 rebounds. Brandon Roy had 21 points, 7 rebounds, 11 assists and 3 steals.

For those who were tuning in just to see Greg Oden go against Andrew Bynum, you're in for an upset. Greg Oden dominated Andrew Bynum since the opening tip. Bynum grabbed 11 rebounds but couldn't find a single opportunity to score against Oden's defense.

The Blazers will play the Clippers next tomorrow night at the Staples Center again.

Yeah, for a newcomer (I think) and no pics, this is surprisingly solid. A better version of my 2K7 Blazers one. Hope you keep going with this.

I have a slight problem... Since I can only run this game with Linux, the support is not the best. For some reason, my screenshots always show up with black boxes across them and really ruins the image. What I need now is someone to help me take some screenshots of each match up. So now, I"m going to announce a...

Screenshot contest! I doubt this will work since the only 2 people that have replied are both big dynasty owners and are probably already very sick of getting in to NBA Live to screen cap every other action, but I will give it a shot.

I may or may not ask for specific theme for the screenshot. For example, I may want a screenshot of Greg Oden doing a dunk over Dwight Howard. You will be credited in each presentation if your screenshot is selected and I will keep a record of whoever's screenshot was used for the post-game presentation.

The rules are...

The screenshot must be from Live 06, 07 or 08.

You may not have a player that did not play a single minute in that game. In my dynasty, the Rockets traded Ron Artest for Kevin Martin. I do not want Brandon Roy dunking on Ron Artest as a Rocket however cool that may be.

You MAY have shoe patches, court patches, jersey patches or cyberfaces. My only restriction on jerseys are no fictional jerseys and no practice jerseys unless specified (I may want a practice pic. Who knows?)

You MAY photoshop or edit the picture in anyway you want. The quality of raw NBA Live screenshots are kind of limited.

Here's the first one... A picture of Jason Kapono (Blazers 24) shooting a 3 against the Lakers. The Lakers are at home.

Take a look at the boxscore and see who should not be included in this screenshot.

i've just read the whole thing, really nice write-up, very very solid dynasty you've got there, and good choice of team too, the Blazers are a very interesting team to write/read about. Although it's a shame u couldnt get some pics up.

Good Luck with this, but i'm not gonna join in with the contest, sounds quite complicated.

Good luck again man (Y) I'll be reading

Ok. Both of the entries were very nice. jonthefon, Kapono should be #24 and Cool Cat the resolution on your images were a bit low. But it's ok.

The screenshot contest will begin officially now. I want a picture of Travis Outlaw doing anything (standing, shooting, dunking, blocking, passing, whatever)

Blazers are on the road and the Clippers are at home. Baron Davis isn't playing in this game.

The next presentation will be really nice. I promise.

Awesom3, what are you using to take screenshots? Is it the built in function of NBA Live 08 by pressing F12 or are you using a 3rd party program? Have you tried using the delay screenshot function? Applications> Accessories> Take Screenshot.

Really sorry guys... No this Dynasty is not over but I just don't really have enough time for this. I'll do this in my free time. With school stuff piling up and now that I have NBA 2k9 I'll rarely play NBA Live.
