2K9 PC preferred gamepad

Sat Oct 18, 2008 6:05 am

What would you recommend for playing 2K9 on the PC, a 360 gamepad, PS3 gamepad, or game-compatible PC gamepad?
I know there are converters or drivers to use those console gamepads for the PC. I'm hoping to gather some opinions based on your experience so I can make up my mind on which one is preferrable.

I'm leaning towards the 360 controller for now.
PS2 controller is definitely out of my list as it easily gets broken with the way I play.
I break controllers the way Jao eats through a buffet line, so I'm hoping one that's durable and comfortable.

The current controller I have for the PC doesn't have them analog sticks, which is usually no problem for me because I edit/map the controller configuration with the games I play that requires the analog sticks.
But with 2K9, I'm hoping to hone my Isomotion skills and I think an analog controller is the only way to go to truly enjoy the game.

Suggestions?

In Germany the game fpr PC is out but the Problem with the 360 Pad is the mislabeld buttons if you press direktpass A its labeld B4. You need internet to register the game over steam. Online game is not supported, but the game is good and a must have !!!!!!!!!

Thrustmaster Firestorm Dual Analog

They don't make it anymore but you might be able to get it on Ebay. Most comfotable controller ever made. With rubber grip surface for when you're sweating and your hands get slippery.

Ugh. (I see similar statements a lot on the internet, and I'm glad I've never experienced such a thing.)

I have that same gamepad though. I ditched it as soon as 360 one came out.

But doesn't the sweat from your hands eventually degrade the rubber over time?

It seems that most people prefer the 360 controller.

If I'm not mistaken, Andrew had some problems in the past with the Logitech controller mentioned.

Poor guy doesn't own a console :o I would suggest the xbox controller for sure.

Yes, poor me. My very existence depends on me owning a console. Halp me!

The problem with the 360 controller is that there are only 4 shoulder buttons. The Firestorm had 6 (4 shoulder, 2 trigger located lower) Brilliant design, the trigger buttons were used to pass and shoot. It's pretty awkward to use the shoulder or worse, the face buttons to shoot. (2k9 of course uses shotstick).

Also, is the 360's analog sticks depressable? (do they act as 2 more buttons when you push the sticks in?). That's what the Firestorm did. Sweet.

Sat Oct 18, 2008 4:43 pm

Yeah, but on the Firestorm, you don't get "start/back" and instead get those lower buttons. Where I generally stuck pause/menu/etc. stuff like that anyway.

Yes, 360 analogs have buttons under them. Only Nintendo refuses to do this since Sony put them on the original Playstation Dual Analog a decade ago. And I prefer the analog triggers, and left stick in primary position over the Dual Shock. Yeah, the D-Pad sucks. But the d-pad on all non-Nintendo and Sony controllers does anyway. And I feel like I could easily beat someone to death with the 360 controller.

(I should note that I never hated the original "Duke" Xbox controller though. And only dislike the Xbox controllers because of the white/black buttons being stupidly placed on all of them instead of, as they fixed things on the 360, making them top buttons.)

Other than that D-Pad, the 360 controller is sexy as hell. (And shows what Microsoft can pull off when it applies itself.)

It seems that this controller looks good:

I wouldn't mind the Xbox controller so much if they inverted the D-pad with the left analog stick. Call me anal, but it's kind of off-putting that it's not symmetrical.

thrustmaster dual analog 3. works pretty good.

Fri Oct 24, 2008 1:09 am

Logitech's Chillstream for PC. For those with sweaty palm. BTW, i have RumblePad 2, ready in here.

The game doesn't recognize my thumbstick buttons. Does anybody have a gamepad whose thumbstick buttons are recognized in 2k9?

Fri Oct 24, 2008 1:51 am

nope, mine (thrustmaster) are also not working...

Fri Oct 24, 2008 8:54 am

I am thinking of getting a 360 controller for this. In gameplay does it show buttons (Y,X,ect) rather than B1,B2,ect. ??

Fri Oct 24, 2008 10:02 am

I heard it only shows B1, B2, etc.

Wrong. That is the superior method. It's stupid to put the primary control method in a non-primary position.

No, but unless you're dense it takes two seconds to learn as in the control settings it shows you how they're mapped.
