You're sexy and I want to [s]diddle[/s] play games with you?

We should get a TF2 360 match going.

Wed Oct 15, 2008 2:18 am

I'd be down to crack open halo 3 for the first time in like 3 months if we got some sort of nlsc clan or something.

Fixed for objective factual correctness.

If only we had some kind of server...

Wed Oct 15, 2008 5:39 am

^ That. Lolz at FPS games on non-PC entities.

Wed Oct 15, 2008 5:43 am

yes benji we'd play on your server :P

I've edited the first post for sign ups on Halo 3 and TF2 PC. Just post if you wanna sign up or make comment that I wish to diddle Disco Stu.

Benji will serve us? Hmm, maybe I should shell out 20 so I can play it.

Wed Oct 15, 2008 11:35 am

I'd play Halo as well but I'm certifiably god-awful at it.

No problem. I cannot stand the fact that there is a maximum speed at which you can turn around, and the amount of acceleration applied to analog movement in most console first person games is just unbearable in its unpredictability. I'll take my 1:1 mouse input any day.

I'm quite aware that many people are very skilled with it, but then again if a developer required you to hit RT, X, and d-pad down at the same time to reload, you could get pretty skilled at that. Doesn't make it the most optimal solution.

Thu Oct 16, 2008 11:15 am

So you laugh at people who can play at a speed that you have problems with?

Exactly, for the reasons I described in the second paragraph of my last post. I don't exactly know what you mean by "speed," but I think that covers it.

Thu Oct 16, 2008 3:20 pm

Guess you didn't know that you can use an adapter to play with a mouse and keyboard on the 360.

So Dennis Rodman should of lul'd at Reggie Miller when he saw him shoot? Just because you're not good at something, or because you like doing something differently, doesn't mean you should just laugh at it. But whatever, I hope your insecurities make you happy.

We can play other stuff on Steam too. Asdf and a couple others have DoD, even if I haven't played that in forever. I have a lot of stuff, so does Kaboom, so if you have it we likely do. (Especially that rich jew fag who steals from poor people for an insurance company all day.) I know we both have all of the Valve stuff. (Except Condition Zero for me, which I refuse to buy, even to be complete.)

So all of CS:S, DOD:S, CS, DOD, HL:DM, etc. would be up. Red Orchestra. All the steammods (Insurgency, Zombie Panic, etc.) they just added. Also any that don't have such fancy features. Like HIDDEN:SOURCE. Or Battlegrounds which can be lulzy.

Me and Kaboom also have Battlefield 2 if anyone else has that and wants to die by artillery. He's got Crysis Wars, and I had it for free weekend but was underwhelmed, so I might not get that any time soon. There's also The Ship which is Kaboom's favorite game (and I don't have), and ET:QW which I might buy if it ever goes on sale on Steam.

But TF2 is the best one. By far. No contest. If people upgrade for 2K (or already can play it), they need to get this too. Where's all the rest of the PC gamers? el_badman? We need to get TF2 going for serial.

Thu Oct 16, 2008 6:22 pm

You have gears for pc?

Thu Oct 16, 2008 6:45 pm

No. Is it cross compatable with 360? And is there a community still? (Especially when 2 comes out.) I could look into it if cheap enough after I give it a single player try. (Which I've been meaning to, but keep going for new things.)

I'd probably prefer TF2 still, it can be played with four year old PC tech on medium-high. And is the best modern MP game.

Thu Oct 16, 2008 6:52 pm

No its not cross compatible. I picked it up for $5 australian just to do the brumak mission on single player. I might get tf2 for pc. I played it on xbox but theres too much lag and not enough matches.

Thu Oct 16, 2008 7:03 pm

Huh, would've thought Gears of all things was cross compatible. I don't personally have a 360 (I can go play one whenever I want, but that doesn't really count) so forget that for MP then. (Still would like to play it single player. But would do so on PC.)

Yeah, TF2 360 has none of the class updates (Yet. You guys will pay for it.) or bug fixes. PC is totally worth it if you can run it. I was a skeptic going in (really would you expect otherwise from me?), but I've been fully converted.

Imagine the 360 version but with full servers, and class updates. And exploit fixes/balancing tweaks. (And $20.)

If only we could get some of these people posting in the 2K9 threads with specs that can run TF2 we could get this server going most of the time.

Thu Oct 16, 2008 7:17 pm

Gears of war runs on xp as well as vista, thats probably why it isn't cross compatible with xbox. A brief rundown on my specs:

Intel core 2 quad q6600 @ 2.40 ghz
4 gb ram
Nvidia geforce 8600 gs
windows vista 32 bit (yeah i should upgrade it to 64 bit)

It runs gears of war fine so it should run team fortress two pretty well.

Thu Oct 16, 2008 7:31 pm

Well, the cross compatible stuff depends on GFW which works on both XP and Vista as it is built into the individual games. (And has the ability to connect to XBL, although no one seems to want to do it.) The "Halo 2 only plays on Vista" etc. stuff was a myth where the game checked if you were on Vista and if not it wouldn't work, this was cracked out later.

Oh, yeah, you'll be fine for TF2 with that system. (Not complete max maybe, but easily very high, 8800gt instead of 8600 would max out completely probably.) I'd recommend picking it up if you at least enjoyed it on 360. I can send you my steamid if you do and we can try some games since I'm often up at Aussiehours from Thursday on. (Well, you know, you probably see me on MSN sometimes.) It's a lot more fun playing with at least one person you know, even if to bitch about the rest of the team. I'd send you a trial/free weekend but I sent it to Pdub a bit ago. (It's expired by now even if he hadn't used it. If you wanted to wait, I can save the next one for you. No idea when that might be though. I definitely think it's worth $20 US though. I'd even go up to $40 and I'm a cheapskate.)

Thu Oct 16, 2008 8:25 pm

So it means if I get TF2 I have to shell out another $20 to enjoy the full experience?

Fri Oct 17, 2008 12:50 am

Pdub wrote:Guess you didn't know that you can use an adapter to play with a mouse and keyboard on the 360.

It's rather expensive, and why would I want to go through that hassle when I could just get the PC version of a game which is always vastly less expensive?

Matthew wrote:So Dennis Rodman should of lul'd at Reggie Miller when he saw him shoot? Just because you're not good at something, or because you like doing something differently, doesn't mean you should just laugh at it. But whatever, I hope your insecurities make you happy.

My contention is not that what I'm good at must be the best, it's that mouse+keyboard is more functional and more accurate than an analog stick with a maxmium turning speed, acceleration, and minimally adjustable sensitivity. I was playing the World at War beta last night, and I had to hold the left stick up then click the left stick to sprint...this is so much more cumbersome than hitting shift and holding W.

benji wrote:There's also The Ship which is Kaboom's favorite game

Mmmm...The Ship. Best "I'm sick of all the typical genres and want to play something bizarre for ten minutes then quit" multiplayer game evar.

TF2 is indeed the best MP game in existence - it has spoiled pretty much every other game for me. And that's my server still 'til I get some moneys. Because it's been totally worth it so far, 0/24 all day and all night.

Gears of War was the 4th most played game on Xbox Live for the week of Sep 22, still a whole bunch of people playing. However, every time I've played a match every single person has used the shotgun and been able to kill people in one or two shots, which isn't all that fun...I never figured out a counter to that. Also, taking cover seems to be nearly worthless.

Shadowgrin, TF2 costs $20 flat on Steam. Not sure what you mean. Whenever they finish compiling all the PC updates to put on the 360 version, that's going to cost $10. But every update on the PC is totally free as part of their anti-piracy strategy of constantly releasing forced updates.
