It's not unreasonable for teams to include such clauses in player's contracts and it's obviously something the NBA Player's Union find acceptable. Teams are making huge financial investments in players and I'd say it's within their rights to protect those investments by insisting players minimise the risk of serious injury through offcourt activities. On one hand, it isn't fair that players can't partake in those pasttimes but then it isn't fair that a team has to pay them millions of dollars to sit on the bench because they injured themselves with somewhat dangerous activities.

Its a relatively small price to pay for being paid millions to play a game.

"Hey Monta, it's Indy."
"Who?"
"Indy."
"I ain't know who you are man."
"I'm the guy you met at the Pacers game. Remember?"
"Yeah whatever. Look, I ain't got the time for this shit."
"So what happened with the ankle?"

Yes Indy...

He didn't tell the truth to Golden State and the World...

And it's going to tell it to you...

We were in rooms next to each other at a basketball camp I went to in Mississippi 6 or 7 years ago. He was already on the NBA track.

He has a different cell phone number now apparently, and didn't ever tell me his new number. It looks like my one NBA friend has forgotten about me.

ouch...send GSW an email addressed to Monta :D

That reminds me, Shaq called me and asked me about how his ass taste or some shit like that.

Kind of scared me.

Then turned me on. :(

Didn't you make Eddie Gill's acquaintance at one point? Not that it has anything to do with Ellis' injury but I remember you mentioned you'd met him at some point.

Well, it appears that ellis' injury came from a "low-speed" moped accident...
reminds me of jason collins and his golf cart...

It must really suck for a player to think twice about doing anything a normal person would just do. but then again they get paid millions to play ball

Thu Sep 25, 2008 2:55 pm

they could always do those things, as long as their team wouldn't know and they're not so stupid to have an accident...

Yeah, I met him a few times, but that doesn't really count considering that he would not remember me now and also is no longer an NBA player.

Sometimes that's the way it is; if you don't like it, pick another job. I have a friend who works in the mining industry, he's basically on call 24/7 and you must have a blood alcohol level of zero while you're working underground, so unless he's arranged for some time off he usually doesn't get to drink much when we're all together and having a few beers. But, he likes the work and it's good money, it's what he wants to do so he puts up with it.

Likewise, Monta Ellis obviously wants to play in the NBA and will be paid very good money beginning this year (not that I'd mind getting what he was being paid up until this point), so there's some rules and restrictions he has to abide by. I'm sure it does suck, but it's not the only profession that's like that and if he doesn't like it, no one's forcing him to be an NBA player.

Thanks Benji,

Here in mi town are known as "Zanellitas"... As i read this motorcycles reaches 50km/h... He's pretty idiot to crash in a moped :S

Fri Sep 26, 2008 9:51 am

The story hasn't totally unfolded yet. Maybe he was masturbating a la Eddie Griffin.

Fri Sep 26, 2008 6:06 pm

Grand Theft Auto enthusiasts will also recognise it as a "Faggio".

Not really.
Even at that speed a sudden sharp turn can make that moped lose control and crash into something.

Even hitting a small bump or that of a sidewalk can make him fly from his moped and hit the ground face first. [/personal experience but with a bicycle]

My friend drove into a deer with a moped. He broke his leg and arm if I am right. It was at night, though.

Sun Sep 28, 2008 12:41 pm

maybe he put his foot down to stop, the back wheel came up behind his heel and fucked up his ankle
