^^^ Since there are variations of swimming, they should put the 3pt Contest and slam dunk contest as an olympic sport. More gold medals there. ;)

Aquaman lives

I assume so, they'd just need to enter at least nine events.

Well, that comes as a surprise.

I'll consider Phelps the greatest swimmer and Olympian, for now. IIRC he has more Olympic gold medals than anyone.

It's got to be the ears. The ears help him float making him concentrate more on the forward swimming motion, the ears are also hydrodynamic helping his speed.

Mission accomplished! He's one unbelievable dude right there, 8 medals..

Also I was shocked when Bolt won 100m running so easy

Mon Aug 18, 2008 7:57 am

Well, I decided to finally cast my vote for 8 medals.

Makes me wonder if his recorded time would have been lesser if hadn't showboated a little bit at the end and just kept on running seriously. That's how easy it was for him.

Exactly. I thought of the same thing, he could probably run out of 9.60 second easily.

Now add in the fact he was running with one of his shoelaces undone.

He was so fast he already untied his shoe the same time the race will be over.

Tue Aug 19, 2008 2:51 am

It's unbelievable how fast he was, and even though he won the gold, I just can't get over the fact how much it annoys me that he could've had a better time if he didn't showboat. I can't believe it.

Tue Aug 19, 2008 8:39 pm

 That's even more shocking.

Wed Aug 20, 2008 2:54 pm

Bolt talking to a reporter, "I could have run 9.60 but I wanted to celebrate' or something like that... crazy crazy man!

And speaking of crazy men, Phelps fulfilled the promise... 14 golds in his career... come London, I wonder if he can make that total close to 20. And if his career can last until 2016, if the Games are in the USA, it would be perfect for his send-off.

Funny thing is that in one of the races, NBC tried to get him to answer one question and he declined. Apparantly NBC didn't show one of his races after that.

So Bolt won in the 200m with a WR. Anyone wants to make a "Best Athlete Ever" thread? Should be fun to discuss.

Perhaps you could make one? :P

It'd be interesting to see what people define as an athlete. For example, are swimmers included as athletes? How do you compare individuals in team sports to people in individual sports? And questions like that!

Thu Aug 21, 2008 5:25 pm

maybe start with "best athlete in beijing" first...

Perhaps you could make one?

Fuck you, no one tells me what to do.

I am in love with this guy.

do you guys classify michael phelps as the greatest olympian ever

I still dont. I dont think the number of golds is your measure of greatness. Not to take away from what he did or name a greatest olympian ever but *shrug* theres more to life than winning sometimes

Tue Sep 02, 2008 6:57 pm

I would suggest his performance could be considered the greatest single Games performance in history because of the eight medals and the records that he broke but greatest Olympian? In all fairness, I think he needs to compete again in 2012 and add to his accomplishments to cement a claim to that kind of honour.
