Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

Yeah i would perfer Monsoon and Heenan, but they cant do it. My 2nd option is Vince Mcmahon and Ventura. If JR is the caller, i hope there is an option to turn it off, because he isnt classic wrestling like i remember it.
Tue Aug 12, 2008 12:35 pm
jr sucks, and would totally be out of place in the game. i would prefer 2 made up announcers over jr

Never seen any 80's/early 90's NWA? (Obviously it's not WWF, but it's not totally out of left field)

Not a lot of love for JR here. I can't imagine you're very fond of Michael Cole then.
Tue Aug 12, 2008 2:34 pm
How long has JR been around?
Tue Aug 12, 2008 3:38 pm
He's been with the WWF/WWE since 1993, he made his debut calling Wrestlemania IX. He's been in the industry since 1974 though.

Nah i started watching WWF around WM3 i think. But i never watched NWA or WCW so JR is more of a current announcer to me. For me, just hearing Gorilla Monsoon talk is reliving old memories, happy memories. But even Vince or Jesse would be cool too. JR just isnt old school WWF to me. He wasnt there for most of the early years.

It probably isn't feasible to get Jesse Ventura though, they've even had to cut his commentary out of some DVD releases for monetary reasons. I agree that JR isn't appropriate for the earliest Wrestlemanias but anything from the mid 90s onwards is alright.
Of course, that's assuming he's commentating in the game. He might have just provided voiceovers that set the scene for each of the matches, kind of like he's "hosting" the game much the same way he hosted the History of the WWE Championship DVD set.

You know who should be in the game? The spanish announcers table.
Fri Aug 15, 2008 5:03 am
I don't think those even exist anymore, since they need three tables at the PPVs just for the English announcers.

BigKaboom2 wrote:I don't think those even exist anymore,
Yea, but for this Legends game it would be perfect since everyone seemed to specifically only go through Spanish table.
Fri Aug 15, 2008 3:06 pm
It wasn't really as common a spot in the 80s and early 90s though. Of course by the mid 90s and throughout the Attitude Era, it customarily happened at pretty much every PPV (or so it seemed).
Tue Aug 19, 2008 2:28 am
Spanish announcers table, that brings back memories.
Just get Vince and Mean Gene, that'll be enough. Screw JR, at least for this game.
Tue Aug 19, 2008 10:20 am
i just want to hear the full roster then we will see if i get excited. well i want the full roster and classic wwf(die wwe) matches. my fav event ever was the survivor series where the winners went on to a final match, i loved that, forget what year it was though. something like that would own. anyway i want survivor matches, i want the king of the ring, i want the royal rumble too.
Tue Aug 19, 2008 8:29 pm
We don't know that JR is doing commentary though. It seems likely but then he might only be "hosting" the game, doing voiceovers for the introductory videos/cutscenes and whatnot.
I think the simplified controls will get mixed reviews. I can see a lot of people enjoying the retro nature of having one grapple button, one attack button etc but I reckon there'll be some professional reviews and players who bury it for being outdated and not innovative. Personally, I'm in the former camp; it might be too early to judge but I think it features the tone of the game and is a rather novel approach than simply reusing the SDvRAW controls.

Considering Rock vs. Austin 2 and 3 are basically in the top 5 best wrestlemania matches ever...they both must be in the game. If so...it's a buy for me.
Thu Aug 21, 2008 4:10 pm
If WM15 is the cutoff then both of those technically miss out but I imagine they'll do Rock/Austin from WM15 so essentially they're represented. The intro video would just be WM15 specific.

From JR's official Q&A:
I know you recorded a v/o for the new video game, WWE Legends of WrestleMania. Who will be your in-game broadcast colleague(s)?
We haven't recorded this one yet. We start next week. I know that The King and Mean Gene are involved along with yours truly. I am not sure of all the details of the game but will know more in a couple of weeks.

An update on a couple of people who won't be appearing in the game:
"Macho Man" Randy Savage, who wrestled on nine out of the first ten WrestleManias and came away with the WWF Championship on two of them, will not be a character available to play on the upcoming "Legends of Wrestlemania" video game, which is scheduled for release next March. At Vince McMahon's discretion, a few big names were excluded from the game for one reason or another, most notably Randy Savage and Mick Foley. Sources say THQ officials were most unhappy about not being able to feature Savage and Foley in the game. At least in Foley's case, he was originally scheduled to appear in the game, but following his departure from WWE a few weeks ago, McMahon made the decision to pull his character.
Source
Savage was always going to be a longshot with the unknown heat Vince McMahon has with him. The Foley situation is disappointing too but not too much of an issue given is focusing on an era during which he wasn't in the WWF/WWE and not surprising given his recent jump to TNA.

Box Art from November 25th 2008

"Andre, Hogan, Austin and The Rock represent the breadth of incredible talent that players can use to relive, rewrite or redefine history in WWE Legends of WrestleMania," said Cory Ledesma, senior creative manager with THQ. "In addition, they will have access to dynamic managers, such as Heenan and Hart, who will play important roles throughout critical gameplay moments."

Edit: just read andrew's post, sucks that we don't get any Mick Foley...
Wed Jan 14, 2009 12:03 pm
Do you really think Foley is a legend the same way Hogan, Flair, Austin etc are?
Wed Jan 14, 2009 12:17 pm
To me? for the time period where I watched wrestling? yea I do
if I wanted to legitimize that claim I'd like to say that he popularized "hardcore" wrestling to the US. but again, that is my 14 year old opinion that hasn't changed in 8 years.
Wed Jan 14, 2009 1:49 pm
Do you really think Foley is a legend the same way Hogan, Flair, Austin etc are?
He's a legend to most people who would buy the game. Young guys, they put Austin, Rock, Undertaker, Foley, Kane, etc, at the top, because those are the biggest guys they've seen.
Wed Jan 14, 2009 2:22 pm
For me, those guys (old school masked, arm covered Kane only) are equals to the Andre's, Hulk's and of course, Buff Bagwell.
I went there.
Wed Jan 14, 2009 8:03 pm
I think it's fair enough to call him a legend and if he weren't in TNA right now I'm sure he'd be in the game but right up there with Andre and the Hulkster? Probably not.
