Andrew, there has been news all over saying they had a phone conversation and smoothed things over. Ron Artest reportedly said "I'm a Yao Ming soldier babyyyyyyyy" after coming off the phone and Yao explained that his comments were mostly facetious and the media took it out of context.

Then I guess it's not a concern for the time being.

Yao might have been kidding but it's probably Yao's "when jokes go bad" moment.

I kinda can see how he was being humorous about it after all. Too bad nothing was said about his attempt for humor. Then again, what's with the worrying about chemistry talk?

You never know with Artest..... That mofo is crazy

Sun Aug 03, 2008 7:59 pm

Is this deal official already?

Mon Aug 04, 2008 10:26 am

It won't be official until the 14th.

why do they have to wait to the 14th for the deal to be official?

Tue Aug 05, 2008 11:59 pm

Because Donte Greene is supposedly included in the deal and he can't be traded again until the 14th. There are certain restrictions when it comes to trading free agent signees and rookies.

Wed Aug 06, 2008 11:39 am

Any NBA Team can trade a rookie who has just signed... They must wait a month. Donte Green signed with the Rockets on 14th July

Wed Aug 06, 2008 7:05 pm

That's the restriction I was talking about.

Guys... It's official!

HOUSTON - The latest trend in the NBA is to assemble a talented trio of players skilled enough to bring home a title. It’s a blueprint which has raised banners in both Boston and San Antonio in recent years. And maybe, just maybe, Houston might be next.

Say hello to the NBA’s newest Big Three: Yao Ming, Tracy McGrady… and Ron Artest.

The Rockets officially acquired the mercurial forward Thursday in a blockbuster deal with Sacramento, sending rookie Donté Greene, Bobby Jackson, a 2009 first round pick and cash considerations to the Kings in exchange for the 6-7, 248 pound Artest, along with 2008 draftees Patrick Ewing Jr. and Sean Singletary.

A strong possibility, unfortunately. Playing through these Olympics despite not being 100% can't be doing him any favours. It's a fine looking trio on paper but Artest might be the only one who sees action from start to finish with T-Mac's ailing back and Yao back on the court so quickly.

Tue Aug 19, 2008 12:04 am

"T-Mac's back!"

That one statement brings joy or sadness to Rockets fans.

Why did he pick #96 for his jersey number?

Thu Aug 28, 2008 3:17 am

Why does Artest do anything he does?

With crazy people, you just don't question stuff. It's not safe.

It's like asking why Rodman wore a wedding dress. You just don't ask.

Just his way of being unconventional I guess, same as his decision to go with #93 in Sacramento. Or maybe it's a ploy to discourage referees from calling fouls on him.

Queensbridge. 6 being a lower case 'b' this time.

Fri Aug 29, 2008 8:20 pm

Even with that legit reason, he's still a crazy mofo.
