Well spotted, buzzy. Well spotted. I was hoping nobody would notice, but then again, people do actually read these things.

Not that it's a bad thing :shifty:

If we're talking about the first players that come into our heads when we think of a jersey number there might not necessarily be a rhyme or reason to it, beyond them being favourite players, players from favourite teams or prominent players from the era we each grew up during. That's the reasoning behind the players I posted, anyway.

And the point is to just post meaningless lists?

It'd be one thing if this wasn't probably the most popular thread of the week...

Sat Jul 26, 2008 9:47 pm

Well, Q just asked everyone to post the first player that comes to mind when they think of a certain jersey number so he can compile a list. So I guess it's the point of this particular thread, but certainly not a discussion forum in general.

Sat Jul 26, 2008 9:50 pm

I understand the principle behind it, I was just lamenting the fact it was more active than most other threads. Confirming my cynical belief that the world is no longer interested in actually discussing anything with anyone else.

Sat Jul 26, 2008 9:55 pm

True, that certainly is...well, lamentable.

After further deliberation, I'd like to revise my list with the players I feel have placed a stamp on their jersey numbers due to the success they had while wearing it and their status as noteworthy players in NBA history (or at the very least, the era in which they played).

I guess it comes down to everyone's choices but looking at some of the numbers I think it might be best up to two or three players for some numbers, with some overlap. Anyway, just a suggestion. :)

00 - Robert Parish
0 - Gilbert Arenas
1 - Oscar Robertson
2 - Alex English
3 - Dennis Johnson
4 - Joe Dumars
5 - Jason Kidd
6 - Bill Russell & Julius Erving
7 - Pete Maravich
8 - Kobe Bryant
9 - Bob Pettit
10 - Walt Frazier

Kudos for reserving #3 for DJ, however, the first player that comes to my mind wearing that number is John Starks. He was pretty popular back then, and I wonder how nobody came up with his name.

As for numbers 9 and 10, I would think about Dan Majerle and Dennis Rodman - the BAD BOYS, sane version.

Thu Jul 31, 2008 8:17 am

alright so going into double digits, it should get a little easier...

11-Yao ming, Isiah Thomas
12-Vlade, Stockton
13-Nash, Wilt the Stilt
14-Hornacek, Bob Cousy
15-Earl the Pearl, and I also think of Ron Artest for some reason
16-Pau Gasol is the only person I can think of that wore this number. Scratch that, Peja Stojakovic too.
17-Brent & Jon Barry both wore this number in their careers. did Rick wear it too? Oh and almost forgot about John Havicek.
18-Sasha Vujacic
19-Lenny Wilkens, Sam Cassell & Damon Jones
20-Gary Payton, Brian Shaw

Thu Jul 31, 2008 9:31 am

11 - Elvin Hayes
12 - Stock
13 - Wilt
14 - Bob Cousy
15 - Tommy Heinson
16 - Bob Lanier
17 - Hondo
18 - Dave Cowens
19 - Willis Reed
20 - Allan Houston
