True, inanimate objects often can't do many things.

Don't be so sure of that.

i think clippers doesn't need alot scoring from C and PF (kaman and Camby - i beleive rotation would be like that)! the scoring that they can provide would be far enought for the clips tho b-diddy would score 25+ a night, thornton add another 10+, mobley, gordon ... and clips could be one out of 4 best defensive teams in the league: SAS, BOS, HOU!

Mon Jul 21, 2008 8:20 pm

Clippers, top 4 defensive team in the league?

What drugs are you on now Diddy?

Mon Jul 21, 2008 9:30 pm

shadowgrin, with kaman, camby and davis! in fact i've just smoked some wwweeeeddddd!!!!!!

Mon Jul 21, 2008 10:32 pm

too bad they've got a big defensive hole at the guard positions top 4 not likely.... more like top 15 defensively

Tue Jul 22, 2008 1:13 am

In fact Diddy is rigth, maybe not a top 4 but in a top 10 i guess

They have one of the best interior defense in the league and a great defensive PG, and Quinton Ross as the perimeter defender, its a great team

Now, on the offense is the biggest question. Davis is a scorer, Thorton can develop, Ross is a piece of wood, Camby score less than 10 and Kaman can score

We can add Gordon or Mobley, but they have still a problem in the offensive side

Tue Jul 22, 2008 2:20 am

Mobley is a good spot up perimeter shooter, and pretty good in the post and can get to the line, he's just not that aggressive. He talked about stepping up as a leader last season, and I didn't hear or see much of that.

This team lacks identity. With BD, Kaman, and Thornton(I would start him), I think they should be running an uptempo offense.

Tue Jul 22, 2008 4:20 am

I could see them going with Kaman/Camby/Thornton/Cat (or Gordon)/BD. not a bad starting 5. but they need a bench. badly. who knows if TT will ever show up for another NBA season outside of Phoenix and if Livingston will play in the near future. still a lot of questions for this team, but they got a good start.

Tue Jul 22, 2008 6:47 am

I heard the Clips renounced Livingston's rights. That's not good to hear since he was cleared to play one on one half court with no contact not too long before.

Tue Jul 22, 2008 7:13 am

That's correct, Pdub. The Clips did renounce the rights to Livingston as part of their failed attempt to re-sign Eton Brand.

Wed Jul 23, 2008 5:27 am

but they renounced him hoping to sign him for less. they weren't going to pay him that much if they weren't sure he was able to play.

Wed Jul 23, 2008 5:30 am

The Clippers really need to put a playoff contending team out there though. Maybe this is how they are going to do it.

Wed Jul 23, 2008 7:12 am

This isn't really camby related, but after reading all this and really thinking about it, the Clippers are the Detroit Lions of the NBA. They have stupid management, a blind owner to all of it, and wasting players best years (Brand, Kaman, Danny Manning etc.)

On topic though, big names always buzz with the public. If you move any big players on to diff teams everyone notices and more often then not puts unrealistic expectations on the team. The Clippers wont be bad, if they played in the east they'd be good, but with the strength of the West and their very own division i cant see them finishing much higher then last.

The Warriors are still are a deeper team.
Sacramento will surprise this season with their young guys improving.
Lakers are still the top team in the division.
Finally, the suns still can score and win in the regular season.

this isn't camby related but clippers signed jason williams.

i guess he'll play back up for baron. another declining and aging player for clippers. hope he'll do ok with his new role as a back up tho.

Fri Aug 08, 2008 2:13 pm

the clippers are doing the cleaning for the heat...

Fri Aug 08, 2008 3:03 pm

signing players past their prime isn't gonna help the clippers make the playoffs....

Fri Aug 08, 2008 5:37 pm

I think at this point they are just trying to sell some tickets after the Brand failure.

A lot of people were wondering what Kaman was doing when he decided to play for Germany in the Olympics. He's didn't speak a word of German, and he only had been to the country changing planes in the airport.

go kaveman!

if u can't play for usa, why not for german. lol.

hope he don't play too well against usa.

According to wikipedia, he is a dual citizen of both Germany and America.

Kaman is a dual citizen; he is a citizen of the United States and of Germany. His great-grandparents were German, so he acquired German citizenship in July 2008.

"My dad is kind of negative, (saying), 'You're not German, you're American,''' said Kaman, who scored 24 points for the Germans in the opener while teammate Dirk Nowitzki, the Dallas star, added 23. "I had to get in his face a little.''
His employer also wasn't happy. With Kaman recovering from an ankle injury sustained late last season, he said the Clippers didn't want him to play.
"The Clippers made it very difficult for me to go over here, with the insurance, with them not wanting me to go,'' Kaman said. "I was a little disappointed in that at the time with the way they handled stuff. They lied to me a couple of times.''
Kaman declined to say in what manner the Clippers lied. But he said he's now on better terms with them.
By joining Germany, Kaman never can play for Team USA.

There's a strong possibility he wouldn't have ever had the chance anyway, even if he is one of the better centres in the league right now. Interesting that the Clippers tried to stop him from playing for Germany, as far as I'm aware NBA clubs can't actually forbid a player from taking part in international competition.

Tue Aug 12, 2008 1:26 pm

i don't blame kaman at all, altho idea of playing for germany sound bit funny to me considering circumstance around him. in fact, i'd love to see more nba players participate in olympics. it sorta shows their heart and love for the game, and will to sacrifice and stuff. however, i hafta admit i'd be real upset if kaman plays a major role and usa loses to germany!

It all has to do with insurance (and money) they aren't actually opposed to players playing for their countries. Some players may be violating terms of their contracts by playing in the offseason without meeting certain criteria. Clippers here are obviously concerned he'll injure himself for next season, but they must not have had anything to stop him. They probably just asked him not to.

Tue Aug 12, 2008 2:10 pm

Isn't that the reason Ilgauskas isn't playing for Lithuania?

Wed Aug 13, 2008 11:12 am

hey, this has nothing to do with camby, but i just read that dan dickau will be playing for the euroleague as well... (i post it here because he's a clipper, or former clipper, rather)
