Just out of interest, did you really believe the Sixers had a chance of signing Brand back in May or do you just intend it as a rib on us Bulls fans speculating on the chances he'd return to Chicago? If it's the former...any suggestions for lottery numbers this week?

There was a slight chance he might opt out and the Sixers had the money, so I was just throwing it out there. But we also have to consider that the Patrios lost and so did the Lakers, so I'm actually 3/3 this year
How many lottery numbers do you want, Drew?

But you used reverse voodoo on the Pats and Lakers when you rooted for them. What if the opposite happens to Andrew?

Probably the same thing that will happen no matter who picks the numbers; I won't hit the jackpot.

As X said, six numbers between 1 and 45 should do nicely. :)

Should I pick 39 numbers that won't come out?

There's a pattern there:

AI- don't know any 4's - formerly Kobe (or Fatoine) - don't know again - Jordan/Lebron - Bird

Yes - I just like number 4 - I feel insulted that you actually think I'd pick a number based on Kobe. You just might have jinxed my numbers, you bitch - 14 is the number I used to wear when I played ball - Jordan - Wrong again. You suck at this, shadow. It's Pip.

I've always liked the number four as well. It's the number I wore when I played in the local comp from the time I started right up until Under 19s.

Why Chicago choose Derrick Rose? IMAO Hinrich is a perfect guard, and Rose is too small for play in Sg position, i think that Michael Beasley is better player and more important for the Bulls :?

I wouldn't say he's perfect. Despite his assist numbers, his decision making isn't that great for a starting point guard in the NBA, making him more of a combo guard that doesn't find his teammates well enough while making suspect decisions (like pulling up for three on the break when they have numbers) and isn't an explosive enough scorer either. He really seemed to regress last year and while players do have their off years, trading him and bringing in a new point guard isn't a bad idea moving forward. The idea behind drafting Rose is that Hinrich is on his way out, or so I would assume.

Heck. More than last year's supposed offer.

Ah well. At least it's over now.

Best news since the lottery and Draft. Now to see what happens as far as Gordon is concerned.

I'd be concerned if I was you Andrew....apparently he wants as much as Deng which is ridiculous....I thought Bulls were being very generous offering a 5 year, $50 million deal....& now he wants a $12 million deal....crazy....especially considering a guy like Monta is getting $11 million per year & I don't know many people who'd take Gordon ahead of Monta....

either way, I'll be watching closely....positive sign that they kept Deng though :chug:

Arguably no crazier than Deng, who also regressed last season. Don't get me wrong, Deng's a fine player and I'm glad they could keep him but I don't understand how everyone's high on Deng and down on Gordon to the point where Gordon is almost considered completely expendable. As I said, I like Deng but I'm not sure he'll reach the heights that some people have suggested. You give up Gordon, you're losing that firepower from the perimeter.

Agreed, Deng's deal was worth too much....I thought for sure the Bulls would get him for cheaper than last year's offer....especially considering he did digress....obviously they feel it was the team's situation, & the contract hanging over his head....although, usually playing in contract year makes you hungrier & play better, if anything....

There was also the trade rumours, though those were distractions that should have gone away in November which raises questions about the mental toughness of the team.

Deng has said that he hopes Ben Gordon returns and I've read comments from Gordon indicating that he was hoping to do just that, but it now seems less likely. I'm sure there are people who are saying "Good riddance" but I'm disappointed to hear it. If he is on the way out, I hope they can work out a sign-and-trade, after the blunders Paxson has made trading Aldridge for Thomas and signing Ben Wallace, they don't need another one in giving up a key player for nothing.

The latest on Ben Gordon, lifted from RealGM:

Gordon's Deadline Draws Near
Bulls GM John Paxson ''anticipates'' that Ben Gordon will be in training camp with the team, but says that the qualifying offer is only on the table until Wednesday, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.

The Bulls and Gordon have been unable to agree on a contract, no sign and trades appear imminent, and despite flurting with the idea earlier in the summer Europe no longer appears to be an option for Chicago's leading scorer.

''That's not an option because I would still be a restricted free agent [with the Bulls upon return to the NBA],'' Gordon said. ''Other than that, I'm not ruling anything out.''

''There is some time out there for us, but the reality is we've just been so far apart for so long,'' Paxson said. ''We believe we're closer to what the market is in the league. But anything can happen when there is a deadline and all that. The qualifying offer stands until Wednesday.''

and also:

Paxson Believes Gordon Will Accept Qualifying Offer
Bulls GM John Paxson believes that the stalemate with Ben Gordon will end with the team's leading scoring accepting the one year qualifying offer, the Daily Herald is reporting.

The move would allow Gordon, who is currently a restricted free agent, to play out 2009-2010 in Chicago and then become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, leaving him free to go wherever he wanted. It also means that he would not be able to be traded this season without his prior consent.

Gordon and the Bulls have been at odds all summer over a new contract, as well as last summer for a contract extension, with Chicago believed to be offering a six year, $59 million contract for the team's sixth man.

"We've been so far apart for two summers, and the qualifying offer is a good one-year deal for Ben," Paxson said. "So yes, I do think that is what will happen."

Despite Gordon's off-year last season, his refusal to budge on dollars and all the attempts to gain some leverage, I would like to see him return and if he does leave town, I wouldn't like to see him walk without the Bulls getting something in return but that's looking more and more likely. It seems like a wedge has been driven between Gordon and the organisation and even if he does accept the qualifying offer, I don't like their chances of keeping him beyond this season. As he'll need to approve any deal they involve him in, moving him before that time may prove to be impossible.

While this whole situation isn't solely the Bulls' fault - Gordon is asking for a lot of money, after all - I still think the situation could have been handled better. A couple of years ago we were all saying "In Pax We Trust" but honestly, the only thing I trust him to do is make another blunder. Trading Crawford and Curry worked out alright but then came the Wallace signing, trading Aldridge for Thomas, the Kobe discussions which caused a distraction (and here they are with another distraction heading into a new season) and alienating one of their key players, in all likelihood losing him at some point down the road with little or nothing coming in return. On top of all that, they bring in someone with no coaching experience ahead of far more experienced candidates.

If this is another season in the basement, then perhaps it's time for Paxson to go. He made some headway but he seems to have bungled it, though I hope I'm wrong and the setbacks of recent years can be left behind as the team regroups. The Wallace signing has definitely become his "Brand for Chandler", here's hoping we're not in for another five or six gloomy years.
