Agreed: if you want to make comics with a versus series why not a DC vs. Marvel? Or even not name ithat, have the companies work together (that way everyone gets paid) have Dark Horse, DC, Marvel and all the companies contribute.
Without fatalities: this will be the worst MK game ever. Who plays MK for its fighting engine? Remember the leg sweep and the continuous punches? You play MK for the characters and the blood/guts.
I agree with andrew and hope this is not part of the main story line just like i pray in soul calibur IV Vader and Yoda have NOTHING to do with the story.

I take it you haven't played a Mortal Kombat since 4...

actually i played Armageddon for Wii: still just as many cheap moves and ways to exploit the engine rather than it being a "good" engine. If i want a "good" fighting game, i'll play something else. If I want fun and blood and guts: i'll play MK

Exactly, that's the reason why I love MK(and why I won't touch this game). MK is Burger King, Tekken is filet mignon. And I love BOTH.

The repetitiveness of the game engine back in the early days never really bothered me, perhaps because I was younger and less of an armchair critic than I am now but also because the characters still stood apart because of their special moves and aspects like fatalities and everything else that "Finish Him/Her!" branched off into by the time Mortal Kombat 3 rolled around in all its incarnations made the MK games different. Even with the recent games that cut out the humour in favour of being darker (which I also greatly enjoyed), I like that the system remains simple and a bit old school.

Virtua Fighter is filet mignon for me.

I like the Marvel vs. DC idea. How about Virtua Fighter vs. Tekken... and Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter??
The fact that DC does not want their characters to be in an M-rated game is because I think that the character appeal of Batman and Superman, etc. draws in a lot of kids 13 and under and they don't want to see any underage kids thinking Batman or Superman being a cold-blooded killer is somehow cool.
Reminds me of when DC let fans decide the fate of Jason Todd, the second Robin and ultimately, he got killed.

But that was the cool thing about Batman, he wasnt the clear cut good guy. He's not doing it for altruism, he's doing it to get back at the scum that killed his parents. I could see him pulling a fatality if pissed off enough.
Tue Jul 01, 2008 10:46 am
Actually, DrGonzo, that is a very real possibility. Especially if Batman acted like he did ala "The Dark Knight Returns" where he didn't give a damn. I'd see him killing more than say, Superman or Aquaman would.

If supe ever killed it'd be by accident like he went to punch a guy thinking it was a super villain and miss and kill some poor bystander (they never show that kinda thing). Superman is supposed to be the "true hero". Who lives to protect serve and save puppies from trees.
Aquaman is just the worst superhero ever (except for maybe jubilee from xmen "i can throw bright lights in your eyes. What if the baddie is wearing sunglasses? or in the case of MK, johnny cage? i).
Whats your superpower?
I can breathe underwater and talk to fish...
maybe 80 years ago it seemed like a good idea. Now not so much.

It certainly makes sense from DC's perspective but it goes against everything that made the Mortal Kombat franchise successful. MK's gameplay has always been satisfactory in my book, about as much as I expect or want out of a beat 'em up but what made it stand out was its storyline, the gore, the fatalities (and for a while, friendships, babalities and the rest of the novelties).

Preach that sh!t, Andrew!

I just hope they ultimately decide to make it non-canon or downplay it if/when they move on to a new story following MK vs DC.
Wed Jul 02, 2008 6:23 am
If you ask me, and this is just my opinion, they should have never okay'd DC vs. MK in the first place.

I feel the same way. Crossovers aren't necessarily a bad thing but this one is shaping up to be a disappointment, no matter how it plays. It seems more like a DC fighting game with cameo appearances by Mortal Kombat characters.
