hmm could he be a possibility into the blazers?
Tue Jul 01, 2008 4:16 pm
God I hope not. The last thing they need to do is ruin everything they have accomplished by signing Baron.
Tue Jul 01, 2008 4:21 pm
Whoa! next is stephen jackson packing his bag and moving...
back to rebuilding status
this makes portland officially 9th best team in west now.
Tue Jul 01, 2008 4:29 pm
I would call Portland the 8th best, since Dallas is terrible now. If Houston continues to suffer from Yao/T-Mac injuries, they are 7th.
But that's besides the point. Baron might not leave anyway, he could just be bluffing for a big contract.

dirk and his sissy fade-aways

I suppose anything's possible but seeing though Portland is over the cap I highly doubt it. It seems unlikely that Baron Davis would opt out of $17 million for the Mid Level Exception at around $5.5 mil. Like Brand and Arenas, it's quite likely he's just going to try for a better deal rather than move on.

wow... they lose baron now they wanna fill the gap with gilbert arenas, by offering him more than $100 million over next 5 years.
Wed Jul 02, 2008 12:10 am
$124 million over six years? Areans has proven himself to be an explosive scorer and come up clutch during his time in Washington but that would be an awful lot of money to throw at someone who is talented but coming off a couple of injury plagued seasons. Granted, it may turn out to be bad luck and next season might be the year Agent Zero returns with a vengeance but it could also be the start of some chronic knee problems.

It would seem to be the going rate for guys who fell too far in the draft (Rashard Lewis). Let's wait for Monta Ellis to demand the same thing further on down the track.

Arenas back in G-State??
Dynasties becoming realities..

It would be a strange turn of events if they were dealt for one another in a sign-and-trade.
Wed Jul 02, 2008 12:58 am
It really wouldn't change much since both players are score-first point guards. The only difference is Arenas has a better shooting range.
Wed Jul 02, 2008 1:13 am
True, though it would still be an odd situation for them both to opt out for a chance at more money and end up getting traded for one another.
Wed Jul 02, 2008 1:37 am
I think he's bluffing. If his not, I think Miami can make a run for him. Deadly combination Wade - Davis.
Do they have cap space to sign him?
Wed Jul 02, 2008 1:48 am
Not with Marion signed through next season.
Wed Jul 02, 2008 1:53 am
i hear baron could be in la as a clipper. clippers finally can be a fun team to watch. but it's surprising to see him leaving gs in the first place, rejecting 17.5 mil. i assumed that is about right value for baron.

ok i came here to post about it but instead i gotta say how damn annoying that sig is

Perhaps it's not just about the money. Maybe Davis feels the Warriors have gone as far as they can go, especially with the West being as competitive as it is and the Warriors letting their trade exception go to waste (as mentioned in the article). Still, until any talks with other teams start heating up I'm inclined to think it's merely a bargaining chip in getting a more desirable deal for himself.

It's actually $100 mil over five years. Either way, he could be looking at a cool $20 mil per season if those are the offers on the table.

Last I heard about Marion and the Heat is that reportedly Pat Riley wants to somehow move Marion so that Miami can make a serious run at a big-time free agent in 2010, probably LeBron James.
However, the Nets probably have a good shot to get LeBron for themselves if he does decide to become a free agent.
