Wow! I didn't expect that and I forgot that CM Punk had the briefcase.

Perhaps not the perfect timing since he hasn't been on that much of a roll though he did confront Edge about the possibility of cashing in his MITB last week (or maybe the week before?) so they did kind of sow the seeds for that to happen. The dirt sheets say the reign will be short and that wouldn't surprise me, but it's a big step up for Punk and it sorts out the world title situations after the Draft.
Still would have preferred JR to remain on RAW though. I've got a feeling Taker won't get his long reign either, since he's supposedly heading back to Smackdown to resume his feud with Edge and I presume HHH won't be dropping the belt anytime soon, instead destorying anyone in his path. Then again, I've also read there's some heat between Taker and HHH and it's unlikely they'll be working the same brand so perhaps he'll end up on RAW after all.

Just see WWE.com. Surprised at the outcome of the World Tag Team Championship. Cody Rhodes just changed his partner but still a champion

That swerve has been long rumoured. Spoilers aside, it's a refreshing twist.

I just read the Smackdown spoilers..
It seems that Edge and Vickie will break up after the both of them have an argument and cancelling their wedding.
Guess that means there's a good chance Taker will end up on RAW, though the way they're pushing the younger wrestlers he probably won't get that one long title run before he retires. I suppose that's the smart thing for business heading forward but if they can give JBL an awful, nine month reign, surely Taker deserves a lengthy run before he hangs it up.
Speaking of JBL, the whole Martial Law angle is kind of clever but a fine example of pro wrestling logic. Was Martial Law declared last time Vince McMahon wasn't around, this time last year when they were doing the "Who Killed Mr McMahon?" angle? No, because the family still owns the company on screen as well as in real life and Stephanie, Shane and Linda are all supposed to have on screen powerm whether Vince is around or not. But for some reason, JBL is now (kayfabe) running the show. Spectacular.
I still don't get why people are high on JBL. He can get over as a heel, I'll give him that. There are few characters in the company I want to see get their arses kicked as much as the JBL gimmick but he's not a good worker and the "Wrestling God" schtick is a slap in the face of the superior workers who have been made to job to him. Even as a commentator I feel he's overrated; he'd just pull out the same tired insults every week, making insinuations about Michael Cole's masculinity or sexuality, flip-flopping between heel, face and tweener during the course of a match or segment so he was all over the place.
Again, he's fantastic at drawing heat but he can't back it up anywhere else. But, seeing as though he's good friends with Vinnie Mac, he'll be getting his title shots and main event pushes and maybe even another run with the belt, continuing to underwhelm in the ring and cut the same boring promo each and every time ("Blah blah blah richer than you, blah blah blah WRESTLING GOD!!!!"). Hooray for backstage politics.

Excellent post there andrew...you should post that in the wrestling forum. Some of them are high on JBL there.

I'd probably get flamed off the boards. I just don't get it, especially how high people were on his commentary.

Wuss.
If you post that maybe you can find out the reasons why many are high on JBL. It's worth a try to know why they're high.

I don't know, I'm not sure whether "fuck off dumass hater!!11!!!" will give me a lot of clues. I've seen some people allude to his commentary being "insightful" and his banter with Cole "entertaining" but that wouldn't be my assessment.

Man vickie at the end of smackdown was fucking annoying. Total assault on the ears.

Depending on where they're going with the Edge/Vickie storyline from now on, it seems to have run its course though she seems to be getting tremendous heel heat, which is pretty amazing given the outpouring of sympathy and empathy after her husband's passing. To get her over as such a huge heel is a testament to how well they've built her up as an evil authority figure in the GM role.

She even repeat that on the latest episode of smackdown where she will have the wedding with Edge. Damn, those screams are not good for the ears

After seeing yesterday's Smackdown, the Edge & Vickie Storyline seems close to have an end.
You can't blame Edge, the wedding planer was extremely hot.
I do see one last revenge by Vickie though. At the Bash, when Edge is about to win it, and pins Triple H after a spear or so, Vickie comes in and pulls the leg of the ref and HHH is goin on to win it.
Since Vickie did that several times in favor of Edge, im pretty sure something like that will happen tomorrow.

I hope it will also be the end of Vickie being Smackdown GM. But I guess that will not be the case though. I also do agree that the wedding planner is hot

Brian Kendrick has a new heel gimmick with a big black bodyguard protecting him. I hope this turns out to be good.
It looks like Edge lost the support of La Familia after he cheated on Vickie. I wonder what will happen to him.
Sat Jul 19, 2008 10:33 pm
Too bad he looks like a retard when he puts his jacket on and tries to imitate John Morrison.
Sun Jul 20, 2008 7:52 am
No one can imitate the Shaman of Sexy.

Yeah .. he tried. And he failed.

Vickie's screams are damn annoying.

I wonder how long Vickie will continue in the GM role on Smackdown. There haven't been any reports of her leaving the role and she is garnering tremendous heat but the apparent split with Edge kind of positions her for a face turn as she'll no doubt punish him somehow. Surely they wouldn't reveal the whole thing to be a ruse that she was in on; that would be illogical, even by pro wrestling standards.
I'd also read that The Undertaker would return to Smackdown and resume his feud with Edge though with the fallout from the Draft that doesn't seem likely. He's probably headed back to RAW though with the way they're pushing the younger guys on RAW now he'll probably miss out on that lengthy title reign he was supposed to have, which is a shame. Pushing the young guys is important and it wouldn't be good to have Taker hold them back but it would be a nice gesture for his loyalty and willingness to work with some of the most awful workers in the business...and put them over.
I also read a rumour that there's a lot of doubt internally over swapping Cole and JR though it's unlikely they'll be traded back anytime soon. I guess the WWE doesn't want to look like they're second guessing any changes made by the Draft but I don't think it would be a bad idea and a quick angle could easily be devised to explain it.

Isn't Kane's babbling on a Raw episode a hint about Taker's return to Raw?
Sun Jul 20, 2008 10:46 pm
No one's confirmed that but it wouldn't surprise me. It's a bit odd though since the character wasn't supposed to have been killed, just fired. Then again, pro wrestling logic.
Mon Jul 21, 2008 11:52 pm
That's what I think too. With Kane saying all that squirms I think 'Taker will go to Raw. Or then again be at SmackDown so that the "balance" of the superstars will be maintained.
Tue Jul 22, 2008 2:15 am
Supposedly he and HHH don't get along that well these days so it seems RAW is the more likely destination.
