Too bad they aren't leaving for awhile either. The reason for getting Mayo was to keep the team in Memphis and to bring excitement to the city. Memphis will not let the franchise get away as long as they're making the right decisions to bring good players to the team that can help the team win. Just look at how the fans supported the Memphis Tigers this past season. When they showed how bad they wanted to win, we supported them. It basically turned into Tiger town and the Grizz disappeared. Now, things might even out a little.

So it's Memphis vs Pacers next year on the Finals, courtesy or resident homers Mafia and Indy.

Disclaimer: Indy might be a little upset now that they traded away Bayless, but he'll still say they'll be perennial contenders, etc, etc.

At least Minny came out of it with Mike Miller. They could be solid this year if their youngins step up.

I agree, I can't see why either team does this.

Love is not a good complement to Jefferson at all, both are 4s who clog the lane. Minnesota wanted to pick up a Center who could let Jefferson play the four, so why not just take Brook Lopez 3rd instead? Or trade down to get him? Keep in mind, I am a big fan of Love's, I just don't see him fitting in Minny at all.

Memphis will have a nice wing combo with Mayo and Gay, but they needed size also. Hakim Warrick is not the answer at the 4.

Both of these teams are going to be bad for a long time.

Man, I spend all of the second half of last year asking Larry to just blow it up, hell I even jumped on the tank bandwagon when we were only a couple games out of the playoffs, and I'm still a homer?

Minnesota isn't that bad, they just need a backcourt. Get them some useful guards, especially point guards, and there'd be a "surprising" turnaround like the 2004 Nuggets had. A Pietrus and Arroyo addition, for example, would do wonders.

Indy, you should know better than to think the Grizzlies are finished dealing this offseason. Don't forget that Warrick is our only 4 either, we have Arthur as well who was suppose to be a late lottery pick. Him alone should've gave the Grizzlies an A as a draft grade because he was definitely a steal. I can't believe you said they will be bad for a long time  .

I'm 99.9% sure that Memphis will be good at the latest 2, MAYBE 3 years and I'm also 99.9% sure that Memphis isn't finished trading. They have Conley, Lowry and Crittenton at the 1, so expect either Lowry or Crittenton to be dealt with before the summer league start. Also, the fact that they have Arthur and Warrick who are pretty much similar in height and weight won't work. More than likely Warrick will be the odd man out and they will either pull a S&T to bring in a big man or just flat out sign somebody. So, I guess alot of people think the Grizz made a bad deal because they think they will stay pat with this roster for the rest of the summer.

I think Love would've been a good fit, but the thing about him is he is the safe pick. The Grizzlies have always went with the safe pick with the exception of Rudy for Battier. If Mayo pans out to be a star in this league, the only player that will be remembered in this deal is him. Not Love, nor Miller. I don't even see the point in Minnesota taking a veteran like Miller anyway because it seems as if they were in rebuilding mode and they should've stayed young rather than taking a player thats almost 30. The only way they should've did that is if they took an all-star caliber player. Miller will contribute on the offensive end, but it just seems weird to me that they will do it when more than likely they won't be in the playoffs probably for about 2-3 years and Miller's contract will be up.

Yeah lets bring em back to that city where they used to be...

Sat Jun 28, 2008 5:01 pm

Move them to Seattle!

Sat Jun 28, 2008 5:07 pm

In your dreams...

grizzlies as a franchise never hit a jackpot in the draft maybe except in the year of drafting gasol.

antonio daniels
stromile swift
bryant reeves
mike bibby (ok but 2nd overall?)
shareef rahim
steve francis
gooden

i hope mayo turns out to be a superstar and start a new era for grizzlies. otherwise, send the team back to vancouver.

Sat Jun 28, 2008 8:02 pm

This is the same guy that used to jock Pau Gasol's dick more than Kobe fans did Kobe. Ah homerism...

All those players were before the Grizzlies got to Memphis with the exception of Gooden. Battier, Gasol, Gay, Lowry, Warrick, Mayo, Arthur all were good picks for Memphis with the exception of Dahntay Jones, Troy Bell, Alexander Johnson, etc.

And I've never been an individual fan of anybody on the team, I've always been a team fan so I couldn't have "rode" Gasol's dick. I've tried to give him the benefit of the doubt while he was here, I even felt that we should've waited to trade him after the season. It turns out, we did even better just trading him away. Now, that the franchise is going in a different direction seeing that Gasol and Miller couldn't lead the team to any playoffs win, whats the point in keeping him? I'm still not going to bash Pau and/or Miller and say they're bad players, but after seeing them for the last 6-7 years unlike some people who only watched about 4 Grizzlies games the entire time they've been in Memphis I know what I'm talking about. I never said Pau was a great defender did I? I never said Miller was a great defender did I? I was always complimented their offensive games, but I don't believe that ever came out of my mouth.

Soooo, discussion ended :P

Sun Jun 29, 2008 5:11 am

Uh...if you say so.

My point was you wouldn't point out their faults, only praises. You're saying it yourself.

But Mafia, to be honest with you, the discussion is over from my side, I couldn't really be bothered having a pointless discussion with you. You say you didn't ride dick, I say you did. You disagree with what I said, I'll disagree with what you say.

Yay for peace in homerism world all over again.

Sun Jun 29, 2008 8:31 am

I think Minnesota did a great job getting Miller, they didn't have any good shooter. They got rid of Buckner and Jaric, two old guys that weren't on the team's plan. And finally they recieved Love, personally I think Minnesota won in this deal, although Mafia's argument is pretty solid.

Sun Jun 29, 2008 9:11 am

wtf is memphis doing? do they have something against good big guys?

Sun Jun 29, 2008 10:19 am

wtf is minnesota doing, do they have somethin against taking a potential franchise caliber player?

Sun Jun 29, 2008 11:19 am

No, that's why they got one back in return.

Sun Jun 29, 2008 2:04 pm

love as a franchise player.... i don't see him as that.... i see him at best a 15/9 guy..... don't get me wrong, 15/9 in the league isn't bad very solid.... however, mayo has a chance to become one of the better guards in the league and i feel that moving jefferson to c isn't one of the best moves to make.... why move him to another position when he was thriving in the one he was already in??? minnesota actually did well picking up the guy they wanted and mike miller but i have a gut feeling that mchale will be seriously regretting this pick a couple years down the road....

Sun Jun 29, 2008 2:15 pm

Jefferson played center last season. Unless we're going to claim Ryan Gomes was the Timberwolves' starting center last year.

And why doesn't Love have a chance to become the best forward in the league, and be five times better than Mayo?

Sun Jun 29, 2008 2:26 pm

Because he is white!

If Minny wasn't trading Walker away, Fatoine would have tutored Love and by 2009-10, his nickname would be Kevin Love Handles and he would develop a (bad) three point shot.

Sun Jun 29, 2008 2:55 pm

Because he is white!

Sadly, I have a feeling this contributes to the lack of Love hype. Especially with the "experts" in the media. Me, I'll take a 19-year old offensive stud no matter what his skin color.

Of course, I also don't get what's so great about Derrick Rose either.

Sun Jun 29, 2008 3:08 pm

He's black and jumps really high. Derrick Rose in a nutshell.

I kinda do, but at the same time I really never heard anybody call him the one to be the bust out of this draft. Everyone is so sure that Beasley, Mayo, etc. will become busts, but not Rose. If anybody, he has the most load to carry because all eyes are on him more than they're on Beasley or Mayo. It's like nobody expects that kid to mess up and he has to carry the entire team on his shoulders because the Bulls have no leadership at all.

becuz he's undersized and a little unathletic according to nba standards. don't get me wrong, u can be undersized and unathletic and still play great ball but it puts him at a disadvantage with other forwards. mayo on the other hand is a much superior athlete. both have great skillsets but its just the lack of size and athleticism that makes me believe that love is going to be solid but not excellent. if he was 3 inches taller and had better quickness, speed, and hops, i would have taken him over beasley.
