Opinions about 2K8

Postby rdelizo35 on Wed Jun 18, 2008 7:39 am

I am wanting to buy NBA 2K8, but before I do, I have a few questions for anyone who owns 2K8 or has played it.

How is the gameplay? Has anything changed from 2K7 or is gameplay essentially the same? What are the best things about gameplay? What are some drawbacks of the gameplay?

How is the Association mode? Has there been any changes to it or is it essentially the same as 2K7's Association mode? Can you change head coaches (i.e. Pat Riley for Phil Jackson, etc.)? Are trades easier or more difficult?

Presentation and graphics: What are some things that are good about 2K8's presentation and graphics? How detailed are the player models? Are coaches models still a bit cartoony or are they detailed as well?
Are there any drawbacks in graphics or presentation?

How are player reactions? Crowd reactions? Commentary? Intros and post game highlights/post game show?

Thanks in advance. By the way, I had 2K7 when I had a XBOX360 and I loved it. I'm sure I will really love 2K8 (and NBA 2K9 when it comes out later this year.)

Who are some of your favorite players to play with in 2K8??? Any memorable moments??

One last thing: What are the modes available to play in 2K8???

Again, thanks!

:)

Not really the animations are 1000 times better and the faces are better. The only new modes are the dunk contest that cant be played in the season. No 24/7 mode. The best player to play with is t-mac because of his shot.2k8 presentation is not good horrible navgation menu, bad music, the create player looks ugly, the jeresys look current gen, no intros, the post game highlights are good and crowd reaction is pretty good. The assoication is nothing new from 2k7. I commentary reallys off there not interacting with each other Kenny smith sounds like hes reading a script in a closet.2k8 really wasnt a big step over 2k7 other than gameplay wise. It looks awesome on a HDtv screen though .. you should wait to see what 2k9 has in store

this guys is crazy!! what the hell!! he said that the jersey on 2k8 looks current gen.. that's bullshit seriously..

you got to love the reel maker, and the top 3 plays and sig highlights at the end of the game.. w/c add more fun.. this title is best for ps3 in my opinion.. shooting free throws is the best part of the game haha just kidding but it makes you to work hard for the free throw.. graphics has an improvement over 2k7 like better CF and player models.. the defense is good especially the lockon D.. just wanna ask here w/c is better?? isomotion or quickstrike?

Yea they do the jerseys physics moved better in 2k7. Its toned down in 2k8. The reel maker was in 2k7 and we had to pay for that. Isomotion is better than quickstrike and who said anything about live.

Wow... and here I thought that this topic would get no responses. I'm glad for everyone's opinions. I'm still undecided about getting 2K8 since 2K9 is not far away, although I'd like to because it'd give me time to learn the game on PS3.

It's interesting how the debate over 2K and NBA Live has always centered around gameplay issues.

Does anyone know if you can change head coaches in Association mode in 2K8?
(For example, Byron Scott for Pat Riley)?

I'm pretty sure you can hire & fire coaches & assistant coaches....not sure on swapping them, wouldn't surprise me if you could....

The X,

I think it would be cool to be able to do it in both NBA 2K9 and NBA Live '09... it doesn't surprise me though that this has not been made an option yet. There are more important things to consider than ability to swap coaches. It would be a cool feature though.

Teams don't really trade coaches in real life, though. Would be great though. Would make draft night a hell of a lot more chaotic.

About to start my playing my dynasty with a bad/mediocre team. Just wondering, what happens if you get fired? Does it kick you out of association mode like the other games, or do you get to wait around and see if you get another contract offer from someone? Because after all you are the manager/coach or whatever.

I imagine Larry Brown demanding that they trade him when he wants out of a team again.

I wouldn't call the Warriors bad or mediocre....pretty good team in an insane Conference

either way, I'm curious on this too, I'm thinking that you'd get an offer from another team, maybe a crap one, rather than seeing the Association end all of a sudden....

That was before I decided on the final team... chose GS cause they didn't make the playoffs even if they deserved so, and I guess doing it over to maybe change the result. I also have another reason for choosing them, but you will see later

If you get fired, the five lowest overall teams send you offers.

Looks like I'm going to hold off until 2K9 comes out this year. Which will mean that I'll have both Live '09 and 2K9. I just hope that 2K9 will be a great game like I remember 2K7 was. Can't say that about 2K8 since I'm one of the few here who hasn't played it.

Oh well, I think both this year's games (Live '09 and 2K9) will be real good. NBA '09 for PS2 and PS3, on the other hand, will be horrible.
