True Oskar.
They may not be proven players like Wade.

But.
Wasn't wade unproven when he came into the league.
And he was the 5th Pick too.

I think Wade's Marketability and those two combined are close to Equal.
I ain't sure tho.
But.
It's just my Opinion anyways.
;)

well whoever gets the right to have wade in their team will be an awesome bolster on their offense. (Y)

no on the contrary, he was quite proven..... he led a shit ass marquette team to the final 4..... the only reason he slipped to number 5 was because of lebron, denver believing that melo was better than wade becuz he won the ncaa championship(i believed that at the time too), milicics so called potential, and toronto didn't have a need for wade at that time....

Didn't he slip because everyone hates undersized SG's?

Sun Jun 15, 2008 4:33 am

True that. Arenas comes to mind.

Sun Jun 15, 2008 5:37 am

I guess he slipped because Melo and LeBron are both better than him, not because LeBron is better and Melo won championships.

Wade didn't slip....the earliest he could've gone was 4 to Toronto but they needed a big guy....there was talk of Hinrich at 5 to Miami, so Wade could've fallen further....

so no, I don't think he slipped....Lebron was Lebron, Melo was a proven frosh who would make immediate impact & Bosh went higher than expected (as Anthony Randolph will in under 2 weeks)....

remember that Miami drafted Dwayne Wade as a big PG....Wade was a SF in college, not a SG....but Riley thought he could convert Wade because of his great skillset....so Wade played his rookie season as a PG....wasn't until Shaq arrived & they got Jason Williams that he moved to a more scoring role of SG....

similar to Lebron being PG as rookie & later moving to SF....

They played Wade at the point because they had Eddie Jones and Butler playing the 2 and the 3, and Wade was much better suited to initiate the offense then those guys.

And I think if Detroit had drafted Carmelo, Denver would of taken Wade.

Sun Jun 15, 2008 9:13 pm

yep true, Wade fitted Denver's plan more than Bosh did....they needed guard play more than a potential pick (which Bosh was at the time)....

I think people had Miami stretching on Hinrich at 5 as they badly needed a PG, but Riley & staff were right that Wade could fill in at that spot whilst they didn't have a frontline starting PG....

lol if miami took hinrich at 5, would wade have slipped to bulls at 7? who picked 6?

The Clippers picked Chris Kaman sixth in 2003. They probably would have taken Wade given the chance.

hard to say Andrew, I think they still might have taken Kaman since they were gagging for a big man....

Yeah I'm not 100% sure they would have selected Wade for that reason, but Andre Miller had left leaving them with Marko Jaric starting 50 games for them that season. I could see them picking Wade instead given he'd be the best available player at that pick.
