2k8 or wait for 2k9?

Talk about NBA 2K9 here, as well as all previous games in the NBA 2K series.

2k8 or wait for 2k9?

Postby Sam The Man on Tue Apr 01, 2008 7:02 pm

Hey guys, im looking to buy a xbox 360 in the next month or so.
Im a hardcore NBA fan, and I still play NBA Live 08 nearly every day on my computer, (even thought the game is fairly crap)

Now when I buy a 360, would you suggest I pick up NBA 2k8 right away, and get lets say 6 months use out of it. Or should I just wait for 2k9?

Thanks in advance.

Depends on how cheap you can get it. Less than 2/3rds or 3/4ths the original price is only where I would consider it.

Maybe pick it up if you want some practice with the controls etc. and it can fill the void till 2k9 but like benji said i wouldn't pay too much for it.

Get it second-hand where possible as well. I've seen a few copies in EB games that are secondhand.

Over here in the states, you can find it for around 35-40. So I would check around a bit more.

Try www.newegg.com

Although, I don't know how shipping would be to Australia

I have just got a PS3 and I am a big NBA fan myself. I already have NBA Live '08 and will be getting NBA 2K8 and both NBA Live '09 and NBA 2K9 when they come out this fall.

By the way, I was at Walmart the other day and they had NBA 2k8 for $29.82 for a new copy.

I suggest looking on Ebay, Amazon or a local gaming store and see if you can't get a copy for cheap.

For 20 bucks, yeah. You can use it to learn how to play before 09 shows up, if you haven't played the 2k series.

^^Most of us who have played 2k feel the same way about LIVE, and I was the biggest Live supporter. It's just far superior even in it's flaws and I know they won't admit it but the Live team knows it too. If you are a fan of basketball you have to know it.

I'll check out the Live demo this year as well as the 2K demo and make my decision again from those.

I havent played live since 06 version when i compared it to 2k6. The difference in quality was tremendous. Since then i've picked up both 2k7 and 2k8 on release day....and i will getting 2k9.

thug, if EA continues to make strides with Live, I think Live 09 could give 2k9 a run for its money. Live 09 might be worth a rental (or at least a demo play)
They really closed the gap with Live 08 although it still has its problems, as does 2k

Yea i played the demo for live 07 and 08 off XBL ...forgot to mention that...but I never bought or rented the games. Needless to say...i wasn't convinced with live 08 and it turned out that i was right in my short opinion. I will be playing the demo for live 09 and listening out for all the reviews from fans and websites. I don't have any sort of brand loyality like I used to with live...i'll play whichever is the best game.

My mistake then...cause I was pretty sure I played a live 07 demo. I wonder why they never released a demo for that game; seems they knew it was shit. They were so confident about live 08 that they dropped a demo lickity split.

yea they knew they shit on the rug and wanted to stay out of the public eye with 07.....till that fucking TV show. But yea, ever wonder why the PS3's first NBA Live was 08?

well i really enjoyed the Live 08 demo, but the game was too short for you to see the worst parts of the game. plus, the CPU doesn't intentionally turbo people down the lane, pass to them and get easy dunks like people online.

I enjoyed the live 08 demo too until I played the 2K8 demo which is no comparison. 2K blows Live out of the atmosphere, it's not close. The gap is so wide it's not even a gap anymore. 2K has more of a basketball Sim where as Live is appealing to a much broader audience. I'm loyal to the brand that makes the most accurate representation, PERIOD. Live doesn't even have an accurate representation of a basketball game, in comparison to 2K. As I said, I was enjoying it until I played 2K, now I hate to mentioned the game. Yeah, they both have some issues but 2K still feels like basketball when it's all said and done and Live feels like something, but not basketball and definately not the NBA!
