A big question.

Thu Apr 17, 2008 4:52 am

Okay, well my question is for a personal guess of yours, possible or not. Yes, I know that other people don't know about me and such, and they can't say the right answer.. Neither can I, but hey, it's a personal view, I wanna see what you think.

So.. I'm 12 years old, almost 13. I go to basketball training every week like 2 times right now. I actually play like everyday, but it's not really a training. I also go to fitness gym twice a week. I train at home, where I do 50-100 pushups, 50-100.. the stomach things, you know what I mean, 50-100 situps, 90-300 small hops and 50-100 dumbbells. I also go running like 3 times a week, something like one mile, IN NATURE. I don't have a straight plan for my training right now, I was going to have it, but I got ill and sat inside for 4 days and didn't do my trainings, like pushups and such. If I go to basketball trainings or fitness gym, I don't do stuff at home. Sometimes I don't do them anyways. I don't eat much sweets and stuff, neither I drink coca cola, sprite or such, I try to eat as good as possible.
If the summer will come, I will ride like 15-20 kilometers (almost) everyday, I'll play basketball everyday and also swim everyday. Most likely. Also the trainings at home, which I will try as much as I can.

Now, the most important part. I live in a small town, there's no basketball club or anything like this in here, so it's kind a hard, because there rarely happen moments I can put up a show and prove myself. I live in Estonia, which is in Europe, so it is really hard to continue after I've finished with my school, where I try to get good grades, each good grade is future.
I ain't actually the best player in my training, there are like.. a few better ones, but I am the one with the biggest wish, but hey, as they say, " It's not about your wishbone, it's about your backbone. " So, I kind a work hard to have it also. I give my best to.. be the best, because man.. There are 350 active players in NBA, and 1 000 000 guys who want to get there. 250 000 know what it takes, 100 000 work hard for it, but there aren't many who get there. I'll give my best to be one of them.

I am 5'4", 106 lbs. 164 cm and 49,5 kg.

After 9th grade I wanna move out to a bigger city, most likely Tallinn to a special sports school Audentes, well it costs ' a little something something ', but hey, I might be able to buy a life for myself. You pay for life, it pays back later. After this, I want to move to the USA when I'm like.. 19-20 years old to go to the college and play basketball there. And that's how it goes, it is REALLY REALLY hard to prove myself there, even more hard to get there and everything, but hey.. You know.. It's what I want to do the most, I just don't wanna end up as every second person. Oh and, my final goal is to be in NBA, no, I don't want to be the next MJ, AI, Kobe or anyone. If I would be in NBA Live 2020, I would love to have ovrl rating around 70, but hey, I don't really care my ovrl, my point is, I don't have too big hopes and I don't set whats truely impossible. Oh and no, this one isn't.

So.. What do you think are my chances ? My chances to make it where I want to, and a lot of other guys here want to.

Sorry if I sound like a dum, I might found it out later too.

Impossible is nothing. Really though.

Just like Maaarf said, impossible is nothing. Seems like you´re trying hard and working hard, but you also need bit talent also, but if you work hard, anything is possible. By the way where you´re from excactly?

a word of advice
1st. sports and grades are not everything in life
2nd. stay away from promiscuity
3rd. be a kid, dont grow up to fast.
4th. you pay for life and life will spit dust in you eyes.

Hiiumaa, Käina. You can google it, it's the southern part of it. Also, to be very exact, Kassari, the 6th biggest island in Estonia, halfisland or w/e is the word ( Poolsaar ).
I ain't a weak or a nerd, I can do sports and stuff, I am a good long road runner as like.. 2 years ago I was the best runner in 4 km's, not sure about my time. Oh, the best 10 year old boy, but I had the 8th place, and there were like 18 year old guys and stuff, quite older guys behind me too, as I even won my PE teacher. Oh, and the next year I went there I was eight also. I think I got some talent at sports, as I've got skills at football too, volleyball ( though I hate it ) and everything.

Have been there, last summer actually twice, but isn´t there a basketball club in Hiiumaa something called Askus? I have played against them, they were pretty good for Estonians I think.

Oh well, I don't have anything else to do anyway so here goes:

I don't mean to let you down or anything but it's very unlikely you'll have the same goals a couple years from now, when you're sixteen or seventeen.

Also, as puttingcomputers already said: don't try to grow up too fast and don't build your life on fairy tales. You'll regret it later on.

You know nothing about how life works when you're twelve. You think believing in something and working hard is enough but it really isn't. Just when you think everything is going the right way life will screw you up, even if you've done nothing wrong.

Just go out there and live your life. Enjoy being a kid, having no responsibility. Don't worry about unnecessary stuff.

Thu Apr 17, 2008 5:44 am

Well yeah, but it's not easy for me to go there or so, it's like 20 kilometers away from my place and well.. It's kind a hard for me to go there you know, but I think I will anyways.

@Joe. I know about life, I know a lot about life, really. I've had a.. really versatile childhood, probably had worse moments than some of you ever, and well, also a lot of good, so.. I've been through stuff, and I know about it.. :P

I don't think I should just stay a kid.. I mean, if I enjoy now, I'll end up like.. behind the bins in front of a local shop with a bag filled of empty bottles in my hand, thats how I feel.

About me to live my life. I want this to be my life, but hey, it doesn't come with a wish or a post right here, so I'll give my best, I'd rather lose my childhood to get myself a life. It's a gamble, it's possible for me to make it, but it's much bigger possibility to fail. I'll gamble.

that just sounds stupid, if you think thats will how you end up from enjoying your childhood, then 99% of people would occupy the front of local stores.

i agree 100% with what joe said about your dreams changing. when i was your age my dreams were all about cricket, making it to the top level playing sport. But as i got older, im now 18, my dreams have changed to pursuing my talent with IT. cricket is a love, and not a passion, but IT is my passion and what i enjoy doing. if your unsure whether your good enough to make it to the top with basketball, you shouldnt ask a heap of randoms of an nba forum, go get coaching or move to a new school and surround yourself with people that have the same dream. basketball isnt just about shooting hoops, it has a mental side to it as well

Thu Apr 17, 2008 8:54 am

sorry to disappoint you oskar but ive been through a bunch as well! i had the same dreams you did as a kid and i tried to be a man when i was way to young in my own way without looking to others for help. as a result i did some boneheaded things as kid.
btw good job on the skillz dud. keep at it and you have a slim chance at making it. just think about this though. right now you are still growing and this time of your life it is extremely dangerous to try to max yourself out.
btw it may sound strange to you but many guys who make to the nba are bankrupt within a few years of leaving

Thu Apr 17, 2008 2:17 pm

Actually I enjoy my childhood, I've enjoyed it a lot. I always do it when I am playing ball or anything else. I just wanted to know what you think, thanks anyways. :P

Damn ur working really hard... but kid, dont fu*k up ur body like i did !!!
Its good to know what u want from ur life and going to Tallinn after 9th is good idea. But for that time i suggest u to go to the streetball games (AND1 5on5, Tele2 Streetball), make ur own team and go. Yes it is streetball but still its a good place to get urself a name...

Ill get back soon, have to go to school now :D

And good luck with ur dream !!
