Which NBA players have a flatfoot reach above the rim?

Mon Apr 07, 2008 4:28 am

The only ones I can think of are Manute Bol, Shawn Bradley, and Gheorghe Muresan. Are there any others in the NBA that can reach as high as or higher than the rim standing flatfooted?

Someone is having a boner on very tall basketball players...just look his previous posts

Mon Apr 07, 2008 4:46 am

I would assume almost anyone seven foot tall or taller, unless they have 6 inch arms like Kevin Willis, would at least be close to being able to do it.

ratrac,

Not really just wondering if there are currently any players in the league that can dunk w/o having to jump at all (and Yao doesn't count 'cause he has to jump a bit for a dunk).

Mon Apr 07, 2008 8:16 am

ive seen hakeem olajuwon grab the net without jumping, so depending on their wingspan anyone over 7 foot would be close

Mon Apr 07, 2008 8:43 am

...i can grab the net without jumping

Mon Apr 07, 2008 10:30 am

i can jump without grabbing the net.........

Wrong section, post this topic again in NBA Talk, so that way you'll have two of the same thread and more answers to your question.

Stop your armchair moderating, shadowgrin, or you'll get banned.

No no, it's a trap so he'll have multiple threads expressing his boner for big guys which might result in him getting some time off from the NLSC and more time for his big men boner.
Or it could also backfire on me as you said.
Double edged sword, whatchoo gonna do.

I remember around the time of the 2006 Draft that it was being reported that Saer Sene could touch the rim when flatfooted or something, plus I remember seeing a pic of it on TV somewhere. If anyone else is aware, they can back this up (or go against).

Well...this really tall player that can dunk without jumping but can't run the court. His name is Kenny George (just looked it up). He is 7' 8''.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WctBazFZAMc

ESPN footage on him. You can see him dunk the ball with one hand, without jumping. Very interesting clip.

He won't make it to the NBA. I feel sorry for this guy. He is tall, can't move, can't run. Must be terrible to be that tall. I think he also has some diseases (read it somewhere).

PS Ok, you asked for NBA players that...Kenny George does not play in the NBA but nevertheless, I wanted to post his videos.

That doesn't say much if you don't say how tall you are ;-) You could be 7'2 for all we know.

I think I have already heard of that Kenny George guy. If only he had some more speed, was healthier (i.e. didn't have bad knees), and more importantly, better stamina he could almost be guaranteed to be playing in the NBA. But I guess many super tall ballers simply decline being in the NBA due to fear of severely injuring themselves and shortening their natural lifespans by adding too much strain on their bodies. George Bell, the tallest American, (google him if you like ) for example played college basketball too and he happened to be slightly taller than Kenny, but he didn't play in the NBA although it was very possible for him to.

Yes and also considering that two ppl of the same standing height can vary considerably in standing flatfoot reach as well.

But what if JaoSming uses a ladder to grab the net without jumping, he's still telling the truth.

But we are talking about flatfoot standing reach here relative to the surface on which you are standing not how high you are standing relative to ground (if you happen to be standing on something above the ground).

Tue Apr 08, 2008 10:33 am

I think you have that backwards. Otherwise I could stand on the rim technically.

but could you touch the net if you were standing on the rim

Tue Apr 08, 2008 11:06 am

The original question though was, who can reach above the rim? I certainly could if I was standing on it.

Tue Apr 08, 2008 11:08 am

good point. i gotta admit that i forgot what the hell the original question was anyway lol

Tue Apr 08, 2008 11:23 am

"signs you're getting old"

Tue Apr 08, 2008 12:01 pm

I'm 6'6" and can usually grab the 2nd loop of the net flat footed, on the ground.
