Talk about NBA Live 08 here.

After a couple years away I am back on the forum (for anyone who can actually remember me).
I've had a busy time of late (i have a kid now) and ive been working hard. I never got around to buying 07 because I had no time to play.
However i miss the game too much so now ive bought 08 for pc online (being shipped as i type this).
My question is:
Ive always bought the game since live 95. Ive pretty much always played on superstar level as soon as ive bought it, had a couple practise games and then jumped into a dynasty.
Is the 08 game as such that you guys that have done the same (always played superstar), have been able to pick up 08 and play superstar level right off? Or is it harder these days?
Looking forward to trying out the 'new' things from my perspective. The sig moves and what not.
I'll be getting straight into a Bulls dynasty
Whats a good quarter length to play to get realistic stats? 10 mins? 12mins? or less?
Thanks.

Welcome back, and congratulations.
Eight minutes is probably a good length without major slider tweaks. Note that you'll need to download one of the sim engine fixes to try and get realistic simulated stats; there are major problems with the sim engine this year and while we haven't been able to completely resolve them, the results are usually better with one of the unofficial fixes.

Cool, 8 minutes games won't take me as long, hopefully bench players still come into play ... i guess i can tweak things.
Do you have a thread with good slider settings for 8 minutes?
Thanks for the heads up re the patching. Probably saved me some frustration!

You're welcome, but some of the issues here and there are still going to cause you some frustration. I've actually gone back to my NBA Live 06 Dynasty, though I'm still updating the rosters for 08 PC.

Hmm, im a bit scared now. Well none of them have ever been perfect. I'm sure I will enjoy it to some degree.
Hopefully i can still play at superstar level

It depends how much stock you place in realism across the gameplay and simulated stats. I'm one of those people who gets a bit particular and geeky (or perhaps particularly geeky

) about some of those finer details. Beyond that, there's a couple of intrusive bugs in the gameplay such as not being able to move until a free throw attempt hits the rim, making it impossible to box out though not impossible to grab the rebound. For me, the glitches in Dynasty Mode are too much for me to enjoy the PC version this year.

I agree 100%. They fix the sub bug last year, and completely muck it up this year. I just don't see how that is possible. The sim engine completely destroys it, but I haven't tried the latest sim engine fix. The last I looked it was pretty good, or much less of a tragedy.

I haven't tried the latest fix either, which I guess is me being a bit stubborn but the other issues that we can't fix (like not being able to move after the last free throw attempt) are also too frustrating to put up with.

Welcome back. For me it's alot harder to shoot a jumpshot in 08 compare to 07.

You have to figure out their clutch shot so that you have to make an easy jumpshot(i guess so because they have a clutch rating)

Well i got the game today. Just playing someone 1 on 1 and a couple quick skirmishes on superstar. Had to remember which buttons i like for what which took some time.
That not being able to box out on free throw thing is very annoying.
I seem to be able to play ok on superstar so far. I still have some things to work out. Havent been messing with signature moves or anything.
Im going to download some patches and roster updates and have another go... maybe start my bulls dynasty.

dont buy it..argh,waste of money

Too late!
Well im now beating teams fairly easily on superstar so i think i need to mess with sliders.
And by the sounds of things i'll need to take a look at the stat engine thing too.

You might want to check out
this thread if you want to mess around with it yourself, otherwise one of the existing sim engine fixes is essential. I don't think any of the ones posted to date have been able to fix everything but the simulated stats appear to be less frustrating to say the least.

Ive installed the latest sim engine patch from the downloads section, i simmed a month to have a look, and it actually looks pretty good!
I also used some sliders from another thread discussion which made the game alot more realistic.
Overall id say im much happier today about 08 on PC than i was a couple days ago.
Just need to find the time to play 12 minute quarter games ! Might have to tweak more so i can play shorter lengths but get normal scores.

Glad to hear it. Personally there's too many issues for me to want to play 08 for the PC but it's good that you've found a way to get enjoyment out of it.
