Any hopes of an interview with Tim?

If I remember correctly, last year the NLSC was able to get some info about the game from Tim. Is there any hopes of contacting Tim this year?

Would be nice, but only if he's willing to answer questions indepth, anything else is a waste of time.

I don't need to hear him rambling on about NBA Live 2004's features. There are enough gaming websites to cheerlead for him.

But if he were answering questions about the development process, how the rosters are worked out, how the AI is formulated (which is easy, they haven't changed it since '95.) what sort of playtesting is done then that would appeal to me.

Hopefully he can take a few minutes to answer some questions. That is if Andrew can geta hold of him. You can't tell me he can't take 5 min out of his day to reply to some questions from the NLSC which he help create into what it is today.

To tell you the truth, I wasn't keen on doing an interview this year. When I conducted the Live 2003 Interview with Tim, I asked questions that the community submitted. And then a lot of people blasted the interview and called it worthless, even though I asked what I was asked to ask. So I didn't see much point in repeating the whole affair this year.

There's not much point in conducting one now. In due time we'll know pretty much everything about the game anyway. Likewise, if the interview was a long time ago, Tim probably wouldn't be able to elaborate on certain points or reveal certain facts about the game. And again, the interview would be deemed "worthless".

Honestly, there's not much reason to do these things if they're going to be thrown back in your face.

With all due respect Andrew, I would appreciate an interview especially now that we know it'll only be for the PC version of the game. I'm not sure what the politics were from last years interview, but I know I beneifited from reading it ( I read the interview like 4 or 5 times over). If it's as easy as e mailing it to Tim and seeing if he responds, then I say let's give it a shot. As a community, I know we all want to hear any news for the PC version. The US will still have to wait like 3 weeks and some other countries maybe even longer. I think an interview would be a great way to pass the time for us waiting for the PC version. I hope you reconsider, but if you don't it's all good and i understand where you/the site is comming from.

The problem with last year's interview was that Tim fed us a bunch of PR bullshit. Tim forgot who audience was (the NLSC). People were expecting more inside info that you would traditionally get from someone who was once part of this community. Tim basically forgot his roots. I mean the guy doesn't even post around here anymore. Would be nice to get a hello once in awhile. Hate to say it, but Tim sold out.

I agree Thug, people love to yell "SELL OUT" even though they don't fully know the situation. Don't you guys think if Tim had it his way--he would probably tell us everything we need to know about the game. He's not bigger than EA Sports. Why is that a hard concept to grasp. Any information about the game is good, why complain?

Yeah but I doubt that his "job" keeps from answering a few questions once a year. I'm not looking for true inside info, like how the game was programmed. All we would like are answers to like how has the game improved and what can we look for in the future.

I'm with Yohance on this one - even though some of my statements in the "Some more lessons from the old forum" thread may make me seem otherwise.

Endofanaera, I say this constructively, you sound venomous. There is such a thing as benefit of the doubt. Don't get me wrong, I feel you on a lot of what you say, I have the same complaints. But there is a difference between complaints and plain contempt. They're spelt differently for one.

Also, Yohance (read this in a diplomatic tone, cause that's how it was written) have you or Andrew ever thought about the concept of 'vocal minority' (or maybe overly vocal minority). Most people who have no problem with issues or things generally don't make any noise. Things have progressed in an acceptable manner for them, and as such they don't feel the need to comment or contribute.

A rule of thumb is that most people or readers won't comment at all. Look at the 'views' of threads as opposed to the 'posts'. You don't need to be told this, I know, just making my point.

people just be patient i think game will be nice. what any game interview you have on the net that tells all . im happy to have pc version of basketball to play anyway later

But if people aren't interested in what's said in the interview, why bother conducting one? I asked questions that the community submitted and some questions of my own that I thought people might want answered, and Tim answered them as best as he could. There are some things he can't elaborate on (mainly due to legal reasons) - barring some dramatic change in company policy, it will remain that way.

If people aren't satisfied with what questions can be answered and can't accept that some questions cannot be answered, then there's not much point in an interview.

Sometimes people dont want to give feedback because they have nothing negative to say. Especially of you're a fan of EA's rival (Espn Basketball). They refuse to make any sort of positive remark towards the game or company and thusly find even the most trivial things to complain about. One guy on the operationsports message board stated that he hated this year's nba live cause they didn't introduce the away team before games other and such things.

You can't really expect an 14 year old to have anything substantial or insightful to say about too much.



Andrew, (diplomatically, of course) I think you may have missed the point of my post. Just because 20 or so people posted negative responses to the interview (some personal attacks) doesn't mean that a 100 more didn't appreciate the very same interview and didn't post back. Like I said, if you like it you generally let it go. It's a psychological fact. If you're happy with something - you see no need to improve or detract.

In other words, I advocate for the interview - many of us would appreciate it very much.

Well from what I've read, Tim basically embodied everything that is right with the NLSC community, hell he help start this whole thing. Tim was a patcher and somebody who loved the live series. He was a nerd like the rest of us who couldn't wait to get his hands on the next copy of live and patch the hell out of it. Tim was one us for the most part and he knew where we were coming from in terms of what we would like seen done to the game. Not having him for atleast 1 lousy interview gives me the impression that he doesn't care about the community anymore . This is where I'm coming from when I called him a sellout. yeah we all eventually move on with our lives to bigger and better things but you can't forget the people that helped you along the way. I guess I just miss hearing from some of the OG's that once graced this placed called the NLSC.
