I'm itching to play GTA San Andreas' story through one more time, it's that good and fun. Too bad I don't have much free time on my hands right now.

i have a problem with gta games, i get them and spend the first day or so just fucking around. stealing cabs and doing those missions to learn the map. then when i get my shit together i try to do as many side missions as i can before i even start the main mission. then i even make up my own shit to do while still not doing the main mission. because of this it takes me forever to beat the game, and cause of that i too never get a chance to play through the story more than once

That's a problem?? I call it having fun and getting as much out of a game as you can. That's why I love GTA.

The official website is up! Also, I heard a rumor C.J. will make an appearance. That would be sweet.

CJ is the most hated GTA avatar. I've heard many of this...
"I like GTA but i didn't play it much cause of that gangster theme. I don't really wanna play as some black guy in the hood"
...ignorance is common.

I hear a lot of that too. Nothing but a bunch of ass-wipes. I wonder how that's different from playing a white gangster with mob ties?

He was different to the usual brooding "woe-is-me" cunt that you get as the protagonist in video games. Definitely a more well-rounded character than Tommy Vercetti or Claude.
Mon Feb 11, 2008 1:52 am
Claude was the shittiest, he never talked and had no persona at all. Vice City was a huge improvement over that. We'll just have to wait and see how they make that russian thing work.
Mon Feb 11, 2008 7:39 am
was his name claude?
the bloke in GTA and GTA2 was the best, he could fart and burp on demand
Mon Feb 11, 2008 7:47 am
Yea it's Claude, we found out his name in San An. He was also the main character in GTA2 I believe. GTA1 was 4-5 diff people even though ingame they all looked the same.
IMO I liked the fact that he didn't talk. It just worked. But the voice acting in Vice and San An definitely made things better.

I love street language by Black guys. They are too funny. I love this game.

Claude's silence is also a product of the time the game came out, a bit of a throwback to video games featuring silent protagonists. In a way, his silence makes his character a bit more sinister. I guess if we're looking for another explanation, perhaps the injuries inflicted by Catalina rendered him mute.

This may help. I spent a lot of time searching on gtaforums.com for the explanation but the wiki entry does well.

Claude didn't talk in SA, and that game takes place nine years before GTA3. CJ refers to him as a 'mute'.
And I agree, he's the most sinister of the GTA protagonists - no emotion whatsoever. His killing of Kenji proves that. Even Tommy & Tony Cipriani aren't as ruthless. CJ shows remorse for killing Smoke. Vic Vance is a good guy just trying to help his family. Claude is a straight-up killer. But how he put up with Catalina for nine years is a mystery.

i personally think he was the best main character so far. it probably had alot to do with the actual game itself and the main theme of the game but i really enjoyed playing as CJ

As far as characters go, Tommy gets 1a, and CJ 1b.
Tue Feb 12, 2008 3:32 am
you know, playing a walking dot was kinda fun in gta1

That's true. There goes that theory.

CJ and Vic are definitely the most sympathetic characters, Vic in particular, which was definitely refreshing. The knock on GTA from the anti-video game crowd has always been that it glamourises violence, which isn't completely untrue but the recent games have also had some compelling storylines. In the case of Vic Vance, I'd argue that it's a sad tale of an upstanding citizen falling into a life of crime through the actions of less reputable characters rather than the moral of the story being "crime is great".
And of course, at the end of the day it's just a video game.

after reading a few reviews i am actually a bit concerned on how the controls will work. it sounds to me like you are going to have to use both sticks at the same time, like in the fps games. i cant play the fps games cause of this as for some reason i cant use both at the same time let alone use both while useing the buttons too. i miss the days of basic 8 buttons and directional pad lol
Wed Feb 13, 2008 5:52 am
That's something I didn't like about San Andreas, the forced usage of the left stick since I always found it either too sensitive or too subtle, especially for steering. Then again, that could just be because I've always favoured the D-Pad in GTA.

I was like that too Andrew, but eventually I got used to using the stick for driving. Even when I play GTA3 & Vice, I use the stick. It's easier to win the street races with the stick.

i think its a matter of games out growing me to be honest. no matter how many games force me to use the stick i just cant seem to master it

Just out of interest, have you moved to the left stick in basketball games as well? I remember that was one of your main complaints when NBA Live adopted the quick plays on the D-Pad and switched player movement to the left stick.
