shaq to the suns?

Wed Feb 06, 2008 12:01 pm

anyone else hear the rumors? shaq going to phoenix for marion and banks? i see the trade for both parties, huge risk for the suns imo but they wont win with the current team so maybe shaq gets pissed he is traded and puts all his effort into the post season.

Wed Feb 06, 2008 12:04 pm

I sure hope not. (N)

This is a "rumor" now?

It's getting to the point where it seems like all the rumors should be ignored, as the media just makes them up, and then we get blindsided by things never even mentioned (Gasol to Lakers, Swift for Collins, etc.) before.

Epic lawls from RealGM:
I have been a lurker on here for several years but have never posted. I just received news from a friend of mine who works in securities and intelligence that his boss just got off the phone with Shaq. I can personally vouch for the fact that this buddy of mine has actually eaten lunch with his boss and Shaq on several occasions due to their close relationship.

This afternoon his boss mentioned to him that Shaq was discussing the possibility that he might be traded to Phoenix!

you have a point there, it does seem that the talked about trades never happen and the shit you never expect actually does. still i would kinda like to see the trade go down, just to see what would actually come of it.

Wed Feb 06, 2008 12:14 pm

Well, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The Suns are fine as they are. They are 1st in the West, even though they haven't made it close a few years back.

And anyway, how is the Suns going to put him into the system? Shaq is not the most mobile player on the field at his prime...and now? I see where they're coming from, giving Nash an extra boost at a last shot for the title before he's too old, but this is the wrong guy to go for.

Thats an understatement. Marion scores more points, grabs more rebounds, dishes more assists, doesnt clog the lane, can run up and down the floor, is 6 years younger and only makes almost 4 m less. What else am I missing?

Seriously, they could get much better value in return if they really wanted to trade Marion. I mean, you could send him to LA for Odom....or not. :p

It might give Shaq new life and be good for the suns for the rest of the season.

Wed Feb 06, 2008 2:55 pm

that would give the heat 4 pgs, williams, quinn, smush and banks

which would be gay

Wed Feb 06, 2008 4:03 pm

I'm buying Sauru a shift key for Easter.

Wed Feb 06, 2008 4:27 pm

doesn't make much sense for the Suns... this must be a response to the Gasol trade.

Shaq can't run or shoot so it must only be for "defensive purposes"

Wed Feb 06, 2008 4:33 pm

ok again from Yahoo! sports

No longer confident they can win a championship with their current roster, the Phoenix Suns are close to completing a blockbuster trade that will bring them Shaquille O'Neal, a source with knowledge of the negotiations said Tuesday.

O'Neal is scheduled to travel to Phoenix aboard a private plane Wednesday, the source said, to undergo an MRI on his ailing left hip. If he passes the physical, the Suns will complete the trade by sending Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks to the Miami Heat.

holy shit, its true, on the main page:

Silly trade for Phoenix. Miami was in a desperate situation to win a ring quickly and were able to get that done, but the window for a Phoenix title just shrunk up quite a bit. If they don't win it all this year, they aren't going to win one with this core.

For Miami, Shawn Marion is a very nice complement to Dwyane, but boy are they thin up front now. I think Miami has a couple more deals to do before the deadline, so I'll hold off on further judgment, but I do like this trade for them for the most part.

Wed Feb 06, 2008 4:52 pm

:P This is absurd. After last year's disappointing trade month, we get Gasol to LA and Shaq to Phoenix in less than a week. Shaq's Wikipedia page now lists him as a Sun already.

Wed Feb 06, 2008 4:56 pm

Would have been better if Shaq had made the East All-Star team...

Wed Feb 06, 2008 4:57 pm

Indy, i definitely agree with u. although giving up marion is not as bad as it seems, it will look very bad in the coming years if they dont win it this playoff or the very next.

Wed Feb 06, 2008 5:01 pm

Heat will trade Marion for Kwame Brown within next week.

Don't forget Jason Collins, too! :)

Wed Feb 06, 2008 5:09 pm

Hope he doesn't pass the physical, hope he doesn't pass the physical, hope he doesn't pass the physical, hope he doesn't pass the damn f***ing physical...

What the heck is Nash going to do now? Hold the ball in the opposing court for 10 seconds until Shaq can finally drag himself to the other side?

Notice no one is suddenly drooling on the Suns projected starters (in case the trade goes through):

PG- Nash
SG- Bell
SF- Hill
PF- Stoudemire
C- Shaq

In the case this trade goes through, I formally retract any statements said before February 5, 2008 that could be remotely interpreted as commenting on "suckiness" of the 2007-8 Miami Heat and how they are the worst team in the history of this league. I also formally retract any statements said before Feburary 5, 2008 that could be remote interpreted as commenting on how good the Suns will be.

Wed Feb 06, 2008 5:22 pm

The Suns don't want Shaq for the rest of the league...they want Shaq for the Spurs. The Spurs are their "white whale".

Wed Feb 06, 2008 6:21 pm

Lil Wayne couldn't have said it better "UNFUCKING BELIEVABLE..(lil wayne's the president.. wait what? haha)" I cannot believe this trade is about to go down. Shaq's 4th team?!? Wow! West is getting really interesting. I think Marion + Wade Combo makes an exciting duo though thats for sure..

Wed Feb 06, 2008 6:24 pm

i think it makes the suns a dangerous half court team when Shaq is in, and gives them a chance to be more physical upfront with all these bigger teams.

maybe nash can coach shaq on his freethrows ha ha

Wed Feb 06, 2008 6:35 pm

I like it.
If anyone can easily give it to Shaq in the post it's Nash.
I'm tired of watching Heat games where Shaq waves his arms to the air just so his teammates will pass the ball to him when open.
Shaq being a defensive liability is also not a problem for the Suns. It's the Suns we're talking about here.

Guess the Suns really wanted to part with Marion after his "I want out" comments before the start of the season. I doubt the Jazz wanted Marion for Kirilenko since they're basically getting a player with the same attitude that Kirilenko also displayed.

The Suns' "7 second or less" offensive philosophy will be put on hold once Shaq is in the court but since Shaq's minutes always gets reduced because of foul trouble there will always be a chance for the run-n-gun unit of the Suns to show their offense.
