D-League All-Star Friday HORSE ~ Failure

Fri Feb 01, 2008 11:18 am

http://www.nba.com/dleague/news/allstar_080131.html

"We're very excited about our first-ever Dream Factory Friday Night, where we'll be testing some exciting new events such as HORSE, and experimenting with new wrinkles to the Slam Dunk and 3-Point Contests,"

Sounds interesting, the article states that these events can be seen live online at d-league.com on the 15th. I hope they dont do anything dumb to the dunk contest like the "Dunk Wheel" from 2002.

They've already got online voting for the dunk contest, that's gimmicky enough as it is.

indeed, i'm not liking the fact that Dwight and Rudy are trying to rack up some votes before the weekend has even begun. Silly idea all together, and realy a setback for the -already dull- dunk comp.

The only change I would want for the dunk contest is to have more contestants and make it worth something so the superstars can participate. Hell, lets get 1 participate from each team and have a single elimination bracket or something.

Anyway, a HORSE competition with the NBA guys I think would be pretty interesting. I hope it sticks for next years ASW.

Unfortunate it will only be on the tubes of the internet. It will probably be far more interesting and original than actual All-Star Saturday events are.

Hope I don't forget about it. Or that you can watch it after.

You know the All-Star festivity is starting to get less interesting when a race between a retired overweight superstar and an old referee is more enjoyable to watch compared to the other All-Star events.

Or a dance contest (which, btw, was hilarious).

LeBron has nothing compared to Dwight's moves, even though Shaq owned them both.

I almost fell off my chair when Shaq humilliated Bron

I didn't know this but there used to be a HORSE competition for the NBA players.

I'm taking suggestions...and you don't have to have an online column read by millions of people to get on our radar (although it doesn't hurt). All you have to do is post an idea below, or email me here http://www.nba.com/dleague/news/writeandreed.html, and we'll consider it.

You can check out H.O.R.S.E. right here at www.d-league.com/watch on Friday, 9 PM ET, and you'll be hearing more from me from New Orleans...enjoy!!

and yea....that was a failure. They did some decent HORSE shots, but nothing too cool or new. Once it was getting kinda good, the leader started dribbling out the clock for the win. Boos from the tiny, mostly empty crowd ensued. I think if they clean it up it could be something half way entertaining in the NBA ASW, but I doubt we will see it next year because of what the D-League did this year.

Shot Clocks are dumb in anything except the 3 point contest and skills challenge.

Sat Feb 16, 2008 5:01 pm

Having a shot clock in the dunk contest would also be welcome to prevent another "Nate" from happening.

or another chris anderson

The two minute time limit with unlimited replacements followed by two final attempts if a participant hasn't been able to make an attempt during the allotted time is probably the best compromise in the dunk contest.
