Thanks.
It sounds good.
And hopefully the sliders, will downplay the 'arcade element'.

This is bad...
I have a physics exam wednesday but I expect LIVE to be in my mailbox by afternoon tomorrow...

The horror.

For those who were wondering what shoes are gonna be in the game, here's the answer to your question from the gamespot review:

"Brands like Nike, Adidas, and Reebok are represented in the game, so you'll see Allen Iverson sporting the "Answer 6," while Tracy McGrady is decked out in his signature "T-Mac" kicks. Even the nonbrand generic shoes bear an uncanny resemblance to other brands, like And1"

they give it an 8.3 (Y)

Tue Oct 14, 2003 11:49 am

What did they give Live 2003? Anyone know?

Tue Oct 14, 2003 11:50 am

They mentioned the players ice skating...i was afraid of that. I spoke about it months ago..and they didn't completely fix it. Imo..8.3 is kinda low

Another problem lies with the animations. While we certainly appreciated the added flavor of the 10-man motion capturing and the variety it brings to the half-court set, some of the other basic individual animations weren't quite as good as they could have been. Players dribbling or driving to the basket still suffer from a bit of ice-skating syndrome. Also, if you try to string together a lot of special moves, the animations can sometimes snap awkwardly from one to the next. This is especially noticeable in the post when you try to spin to the basket and use the power dribble button while there's a crowd around you.

That doesn't sound good! :x

Good review, I'm ready.

Can't wait to play franchise and on my OWN make a decision on how better it is, and also I really like the look of all the diffrent arenas.

Is this bad?

If you try to throw an outlet pass after a defensive rebound, you'll often find that the receiving player will stop, turn around, and jump to receive the ball instead of trying to take the pass in stride. This can be frustrating, as it basically stops many fast breaks from occurring. Another strange thing is that much of the passing you do in the half-court offense can look awkward. This happens because the ballhandler will always turn his body toward a defender to protect the dribble, which, in itself, is OK. The problem is that it can be hard to force your man to face up the basket. As a result, you'll see many awkward-looking post-entry passes where your player jumps in the air, spins, and throws an overhead pass.

I had feeling that automatic "protect the ball" dribble might cause a little problem. I also noticed that players stop to receive a pass during fastbreak. well... ea got something to improve on next year. other than that, not bad...

Improve on? What if previous versions starting from Live 95 had the ability to pass on the run, does that mean that they regressed in the new game?

Tue Oct 14, 2003 2:22 pm

I tend not to like Gamespots reviews, IGN is ok sometimes...but I'd rather listen to people here who have the game, but I'll be picking mine up in 2 days, then we can all have non stop fun.

Tue Oct 14, 2003 2:30 pm

Well, this review got down to all the nitty gritty shit about it. which is good.

It could've been worse. And i've already noticed the ice skating and mtion snapping in the vids, so if these are the negative things then so be it. i can handle that.

I'm still gonna buy this game, and its still gonna be excellent!

Tue Oct 14, 2003 2:33 pm

Yeah, big deal about the ice skating, I'm not looking at their feet the whole time. Have to remember, it's not going to perfect but it's just some minor things that I don't think will really get to people.

yah huh... gamespot.com knows what they are talking about!

Tue Oct 14, 2003 2:38 pm

I'm pretty sure it's not going to be crap, the sliders, the major improvement of the game, come on...this is what everyone has waited for since they screwed up on the previous versions, LIVE IS BACK.

Considering, it's there opinion--and probably have no idea how to play basketball-I wouldn't look too much into the review. If you always follow other people opinions instead of your own--then that's a personal problem. I will make my own review when i get the game, and that's worth more to me than a review from Gamespot. If you are looking for a solid review from people that actually will spend some time playing the game the way it should be played--then I'd wait for Andrew's or Steve's at OS.

hehe...

I hope I'm wrong... omg I sent like a million abusive letters in reply to all their ea promo stuff they sent me when I registered nba live 2003...

I got some back saying I'm sending it to the wrong department...

*still bitterly disappointed from last season*

yah man, that's what I was trying to say...

if they are giving nba live 2004 an 8.3 and they gave nba live 2003 8.7...

I think that says a lot about their rating system... either that or they think nba live 2003 is better than nba live 2004 which won't hold much bearing on anything either...

and YES! please do write up a review on nba live 2004...

Tue Oct 14, 2003 2:58 pm

Only thing that bothered me is that they said the only shoes u can buy in the NBA store is Nike shoes.

With that said, I hope there are tons of Reebok, Adidas, and And1 look likes available from the beginning... I wanna have green Tmacs for my Celts.

Yeah keep in mind that was a rating for a 2002 game. and was a bigger step up from live 2001 than 2004 is from 2003. (:?)

Anyway, i still think this game will be fucking amazing and i can't wait untill the moment i'm holding a box that says "NBA Live 2004" on it. :D

In the stands, you'll hear the crowd reacting to the activity on the court. They'll roar in response to an exciting dunk, or they'll groan listlessly if the home team starts to fall behind. Perhaps more impressive is the player and coach chatter you hear as you play the game. It's not just there as useless filler either. It's dynamic and changes, depending on the situation. If the opposing team seems to be driving to the lane at will, you'll hear your coach yell for "more pressure on the ball." If you're on defense and an opposing player moves to set a screen on your left, your teammates will actually call out "pick left." Sure, it's a little thing, but it adds a great deal of atmosphere to the game.

This sounds good.
